Whilst only a short walk from town you could be in the middle of Tuscany, it just has that vibe about it. The kitchen/breakfast room sets the tone and Rachel, the host, knows what is required to make your stay a relaxing and comfortable one. From the complimentary 5pm glass of wine (well you are in Martinborough) to a superb gourmet meal served in the separate dining room, we loved it. Also sitting in the living room in front of a log stove sipping a glass of local Pinot noir.
Breakfast was delicious and I must thank Rachel’s mum for the wonderful homemade jams and marmalade she provided.
We wanted to go on a walk and Rachel made us a picnic basket, full of delights to take with us. Almost too much food but we did it justice. There are only 4 rooms in the house, each of them with a different theme (we stayed in Bombay) and they are very relaxing, with a comfortable bed (important). Shirley, my wife, and I would highly recommend this place to stay when visiting Martinborough and if you need anything sorting or booking just ask Rachel and she will sort it for you.

We stayed for 2 nights at Prodigal Daughter and booked night 2 for a gourmet Chef cooked dinner for a Birthday treat.
Rachael the Prodigal Daughter had to be away on business so assured us her 2iC Jilly would look after us and that the dinner would be arranged.
Jilly was beyond fabulous and attended to everything we required including being an on call Uber driver for our Vineyard tour as the windy weather prohibited us from walking to all the vineyards as planned. This Accomodation is an easy walk to all main vineyards.
And WOW our Chef For the Special Birthday night turned out to be Dale. A very well known local Chef. His food was so what we love.. fresh, simple and interesting Local ingredients. And what a great raconteur! We had such a wonderful memorable evening.
I just know Rachael’s version of the cooking night is equally fab but We feel we were blessed to have Jilly and Dale to make such a Special night for me !
Comfortable beds and I highly recommend to all.

Our two night stay at Prodigal Daughter was a real joy. Our room was spotlessly clean, the bed very comfortable so we had a great nights sleep. The first evening was balmy so we had our welcome drink and delicious home made nibbles outside and enjoyed the garden and the company of our amazing host Rachel. Next morning while we ate breakfast, the marmalade is notable, Rachel made us a picnic basket full of lovely food to take out with us, we ate it watching the seals at Cape Palliser. Dinner that evening was in the grownup dinning room and was truely superb. Four courses of locally produced heaven. This is a special place to stay, the hospitality is outstanding and it’s a fun place to be.

Booked one night (breakfast included), dinner and a mini cooking lesson. Was underwhelmed by the house and our room for the price charged. The host Rachel was very charming, entertaining and an excellent cook. I liked the idea of possibly other dinner guests, and at breakfast, an opportunity to meet others without having to go out for dinner and breakfast; reminiscent of our camino walks.

The good: The dinner was four courses and delicious. You get one glass of wine included the rest you pay for, which is fine. The mini course for pasta making was entertaining and fun.

The not so good: I think Rachel was extra busy and had been let down by cleaners - so there was a bit of rushing to and fro. The bed was great and comfortable. However the room was average. No light shade on central light and only one bedside lamp. But Rachel did get me another. The ensuite was a small ensuite - nice and warm and water worked well. But having a rain shower head meant there was no way to have a shower without getting hair wet. And there were no shower caps provided. I could have asked, but I should not have too.

Other: Breakfast was great for me: it is continental style and delicious. Fresh juice, fresh baked goodies, cereal, yoghurt, fruit and bread all beautifuly presented. Coffee professionally served too.

Overall I had a great time, and Rachel runs a great place but got the impression she was a bit run off her feet and I was disappointed with our room for the price we paid

Wow! Who needs overseas trips when this is on your doorstep? Go local! Charming host and highly qualified chef Rachel offers in-house dining which helped with our rest and recreation weekend away. We had freshly plucked garden salad, followed by the most amazing crayfish and pasta dish. Then pannecotta with wild blackberries. Heavenly. Then to our fabulously comfortable bed in "The French Room" with our own en suite. And Rachel knows all the local activities and can arrange trips for you on request. Thank you, Rachel!

My wife and I had a great weekend with our lovely host Rachael to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. Initially we expected to share the experience with several other couples, but due to cancellations and Covid we ended up being the only couple and so had Rachael as our personal guide and chef for the weekend. To be honest, if we had just booked the lodge as accommodation, I think we would have been disappointed for the price. Although the themed room was nicely decorated, it is just an average bungalow that has been renovated to a not particularly high standard. The bathroom was tiny and the rainwater shower not very convenient. However, having Rachel as our host, guide and chef made the weekend special. We loved the three winery tastings, the platter lunch under a spreading walnut tree, her introduction to olive oil tasting and the pasta making class. She cooked a beautiful 4-course dinner on the Saturday night. Rachael picked up on our love of French food and rewarded us with confit de Canard for the main course. The breakfasts were simple but really nice and Rachael was a mine of information for a foodie like me and only too willing to share her expertise which I really appreciated and nothing was ever too much trouble. So, overall we had a very special weekend.

Rachel made our accommodation experience feel like we were staying with a good friend rather than in accommodation. The surrounds are lovely and the animals were great company too, it felt so easy and relaxed. Rachel made us delicious canapés and a spritz to die for each night she recommended some great wineries to visit also. It was an incredibly relaxing weekend and the Morocco room is stunning. Loved the sprawling garden and had a peep at the other rooms which were also splendidly decorated. Will definitely be going back. Next time I will be booking in for Rachel’s dinner as well.

We had a great couple of days and are very grateful to Rachel for her contribution to this. Her overall organisation of our three vineyard visits, four wine tastings, pasta making class and olive oil and salt tastings was excellent. Then there was the food, the highlights being absolutely delicious just made focaccia bread, homemade muesli, and a four course dinner to die for. And to cap it off Rachel shared with us interesting stories of her cheffing in Australia France & Italy .

The Prodigal Daughter Gourmet Lodge is conveniently located for easy walks into the Martinborough town centre and to local cellar doors. We stayed in the comfortably appointed Deluxe Cottage for two nights. Rachael was a friendly and generous hostess. All guests were invited to a nightly gathering where Rachael served complimentary champagne and canapés - a thoroughly enjoyable opportunity to meet fellow guests. We enjoyed our experience and would recommend the Deluxe Cottage to anyone visiting Martinborough for a short-stay.
