Since the fire they have just reopened the luau Tuesdays & Sundays and im so happy be able to start booking it again the royal lahaina has done more for the people of Lahaina then any other resort or company on maui since our horrible fire leveled our perfect little molberry town of Lahaina last Augest the royal Lahaina is always going be at the too of my list for a place to stay on maui. Mahalo you guys!
We were thankful to be able to walk out of our cottage to get outside without having to take an elevator and walk through the hotel lobby. Our young kids loved to run around the grassy area between the cottages and explore all of the tropical plants and animals. The beach area was empty and it had a gradual slope to the water with relatively calm but fun waves for the kids to play in. We rented beach chairs and boogie boards from the nearby Snorkel Store for a great weekly rental price. Highly recommend Kaanapali Beach for sun drenched days and soft sandy beaches.
The resort location in Kaanapali is wonderful with a quick drive to nearby restaurants, shopping and activities in Lahaina. Since it's not in the main hotel circle with towers of hotel buildings, the resort is more calm, quiet and spacious. The only thing we didn't like about the hotel were the pools, which were small, basic squares and not great for young kids under 6. But we didn't need fancy pools with the amazing beach only a few steps from our room.
We are definitely returning for another family vacation at the Royal Lahaina Resort and staying in the deluxe ocean front studio!
Management, please consider re-classifying these units as "oceanview" rooms instead of "oceanfront," with a lower rate. (The upper level room was also visually unappealing and looked bare/lifeless). We were relocated on our second night to a first floor room in Building E.
PROS
Front Desk and bell staff (mahalo!)
Bottom floor unit was clean and tastefully/appropriately furnished.
Building E was farthest from busy areas and the best location! You can hear the surf when you sleep.
Comfortable Beds
Great location on Kaanapali.
CONS:
Room Categories: as mentioned, these need to be re-evaluated. I would be very concerned about staying here again if I cannot be guaranteed an actual oceanfront room on the bottom floor.
Soundproofing: Walls are paper thin. Lanai is separated by decorative screen…you will see and hear your neighbors while sitting in your lanai. We had noisy neighbors throughout our stay. We addressed the first party directly. Next was a family who started their day at 4:30 AM, and we called Security to address them which they did.
Housekeeping: restocking of towels was very strange (maybe you got a full set, maybe you didn’t). Not really a big deal.
No official Quiet Hours: Pool activity begins at 6 AM!
Overall we had a great time here! Some challenges, true. But bring your Aloha spirit and just hang loose!
The staff always goes above and beyond to ensure we have a relaxing fun stay.
The hotel is navigating the COVId restrictions well. Please note you will need to make reservations for dinner ahead of time which is communicated at the time of check-in. The sunset view from the patio is worth making the reservations!
We decided to go to the Luau this trip, lots of fun. Make reservations for this event early as they are limited capacity and it is selling out. Each party has their own table and the food is setup buffet style with glass patricians to keep food safe & the staff fill the plates for the guests & drinks are flowing. They show was fun!
Rooms are clean and they are back to daily maid service!
We can’t wait to book our next trip!!
The room was clean and comfortable. I personally prefer a tad softer mattress but the bed wasn’t uncomfortable by any means.
The food at the hotel restaurant was decent. We enjoyed the breakfast meals the most over the lunch and dinner items. We had the inclusive breakfast package and it is definitely worth it. One of the better inclusive breakfast options I have had and plenty of items to choose from. Which is nice when you are staying for a long time cause most hotels only provide one option meal option for inclusive breakfast and it gets old eating the same thing everyday.
Have to talk about a few cons and one that is expected to come with traveling is the market/gift shop on the property is over priced. All items we noticed are marked up at least $5 from the ABC stores or regular grocery store. So if you can purchase snacks, drinks, etc elsewhere it’ll save you money. Also, My husband went to the shop from the beach for some snacks and forgot his mask in our stuff and they made him purchase a disposable mask. It was only $2 but we felt that is kind of absurd to charge for a mask when we are paying to stay at the resort. We have never encountered somewhere charging for a mask, even the aquarium provided a disposable mask for free.
However the hotel does provide a few water bottle refill stations around the property which saved us some money having to purchase more water bottles and nice to be environmentally conscience.
The rooms have a small fridge but unfortunately no microwave. It appeared as if there was even the perfect spot with a plug from a microwave once upon a time. Because of no microwave the next time we visit Maui we would probably stay elsewhere. However, we really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Lahaina and was the perfect first time stay on Maui location for our honeymoon; and the rates really can’t beat all the views, beach access, and charm of the hotel.
