The Chessington Hotel, positioned near the Chessington World of Adventures, garners mixed feedback. Guests commend its location and comfortable beds, yet the atmosphere lacks charm with a need for refurbishment. Travelers criticize the value, citing overpriced services and underwhelming restaurant experiences.
While some praise the hotel's cleanliness, others report mold and dirty bathrooms. Rooms often disappoint with dampness and odors, and the service is frequently described as slow, particularly at the restaurant, adding to the call for improvements.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed Thursday 15th and Friday 16th Oct When I checked in the sign on reception said due to unforeseen circumstances the restaurant will be closed until further notice (which was disappointing,Reception said it was a gas issue). As we were unfamiliar with the area this meant spending time on our phones working out where else to eat instead. Luckily we tried brewers fair in Epsom for breakfast, which was great. Room was the older style, nice and clean but had interconnecting doors with the room next door and although locked were not soundproof and we could hear the family next door and at one point they banged on the wall when our daughter was talking loudly. The condensation would not clear from the bathroom mirror after a shower even with the ineffective fan on which probably explains the musty smell in the bathroom. Despite these niggles we would stay here again (in a different room)

We decided to stay here after a day at Chessington WOA. In previous years we've stayed at the on site hotel but due to the pandemic the price is about £200 dearer and therefore out of our price range.
Our Family room was £50. I dropped my overnight bag to them prior to entering the park and that was no problem as i don't have a car. The hotel is situated about 4 minute walk from the entrance of CWOA and anyone travelling on the train can either walk 20 minutes or catch the bus from directly outside the station and then walk up from Chessington to the hotel.
The hotel room was absolutely adequate, you could hear the theme park so immediately shut the windows and the additonal sound proofing glass and it went absolutely quiet - bliss
I slept all night 10pm-7am which is unheard of! I must have been comfortable and my son also slept through the night also very rare, he went to sleep in 10 minutes..
My only grumble was the sound proofing. The squeaky floor which could be heard from the corridor. I could also hear next doors mobile phone keep pinging and their alarm going of at 7am which is properly what disturbed me.
Reception Staff were all lovely and helpful.
If you are thinking of staying at CWOA and can't afford it then this is an absolutely adequate alternative.

Good news, they’ve finally found the cause of the musty smell, a water leak running under the hotel.. This smell only affects some rooms, which is why only a few complain about it, the rest of the rooms are fine.
Sound insulation between rooms is awful, hope to hear some interesting gossip from the neighbours, plus children running in the corridor. But the double-glazing is excellent, and you won’t realise you’re staying on a busy main road, I think that makes the lack of insulation between the rooms seem worse. Play sounds during the night, it helped us sleep.
Rooms are standard Premier Inn rooms, a few bits look shabby, but this really did not spoil our stay. the heating/cooling is the worst I’ve ever seen. It does not switch automatically from heating to cooling, so if you have one of these Mitsubishi units get reception to show you how to switch it! I’m not convinced it will stay on all night. We ran it one evening and it switched off after 30 minutes. We restarted it, and it seemed to stay on rather longer.
Rooms are not cleaned every day. As Premier say when responding to the many complaints (I’ve seen this comment on a number of their hotels), this is ‘not acceptable’ However we stayed for just over a week, and were told we could ask them to clean the room 2 or 3 times. In the end we only asked once, and the room was cleaned, bedding changed etc, then to our [considerable] surprise we came back another day to find they had cleaned the room again, without being asked!!!
The WiFi is adequate for surfing or emails. However connecting my phone was difficult, and both phone and computer lost their connection at times.
Vans often use the spaces for the disabled. Often, 4 of the 9 disabled spaces were used by vans. Normally Beefeater customers take quite a few disabled spaces, forcing the disabled guests at the Premier Inn to have to walk some distance,
One day we had problems with a cleaner’s trolley blocking the corridor, making it impossible for a wheelchair to pass, the cleaner was not around. Out of the Premier Inns I’ve used, this is the worst for the disabled.
The good things. Free parking. Close to M25 if you’re heading out of London. Good access to London, either through Chessington South rail station, or bus to Surbiton then train (much quicker in the evening). Most rooms are fine. The bad: get a musty room and you won’t have a good time.

Hotel's Favourite
During my recent business trip to Chessington, I revisited a stay I had with my family at CWA. The entire building desperately needs refurbishment. Rebuilding might even be a more cost-effective solution given the extensive issues like water ingress, black mold, and damp. The hotel should be closed immediately. I empathize with the staff working in such conditions and wonder about the apparent lack of care from the maids. Regardless of their efforts, guests like me will continue to highlight the dirty rooms resulting from severe neglect. I spoke with the manager for an hour, and while he deserves commendation, it's unfortunate he has to manage such an awful place. Regrettably, this experience has led me to decide never to return to Premier Inn.

Soon as I walked in I felt relaxed. The staff are amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. I actually felt like this was a break from Covid 19 and was so needed. All hygeine procedures were in place, hand sanitizer, social distancing, limited issue of teas and coffee etc, but I felt I was treated as a guest unlike other hotels on chessington! If you need any additional things such as more tea bags pillows etc then the staff are more than happy to provide this in a safe way. Even though the Beefeater adjacent wasn't open it was still nice to be able to sit on the outside benches to relax or eat. The room was spotless and felt safe. The room it self was spacious cool and relaxing. Can't recommend this hotel enough. From the moment We arrived to the moment we left I felt so relaxed and welcomed. It was such a pleasure to stay here and would not hesitate to book here again. Thank you for an amazing stay and for caring in such difficult times and making such a huge positive experience in difficult times but still making us feel special. Premier Inn are so lucky to have such amazing staff x

My husband and I stayed here last summer, pre Covid-19 craziness! We stayed overnight after a fun filled day at Chessington World of Adventures theme park.
We found the on site dining very good, and the car park is free for guests (this meant avoiding sky high Chessington WOA carpark prices!).
The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the entrance to theme park, making this the ideal spot for adventurers.
The room was well furnished with everything you would need for an overnight stay, the bath was also roomy enough for two adults.
The only downside to this hotel is the cost. For a Saturday night stay in mid August (admittedly, the priciest time to stay), we paid £97 for one double room.

We stayed at the premier inn on the 12th and 13th of August. I booked both nights separately but a quick conversation with the reception team and we were able to stay in the same room for both nights. This meant we could leave all our luggage in the room and didn't have to take it into the park.
Nothing was too much trouble, we asked for an extra pillow and this was brought to the room. When we asked for more tea and coffee they placed the sachets in a little bag and there was plenty!
Perfectly situated for a day at Chessington, it's only a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the park and as you arrive on foot you get into the park much faster than others.
Thank you Premier Inn it was fantastic!

My wife and l stayed at the Premier Inn just a 5 minute walk from Chessington Zoo . As soon as you enter the you find that all the government guidelines are being met.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. We arrived before the booking in time but was not an issue with us parking our car in the car park.
Our room was spotless, couldn’t find a fault and during our stay the staff were always asking if everything was ok and if we needed anything.
Would definitely recommend to stay here and a lot cheaper than the hotel in Chessington Zoo.

We stayed here as our previous hotel in Wimbledon had been cancelled due to covid-19, in case this happened again we also had a Travelodge booked so my boys wouldn't miss out on Chessington. As we are Premier Inn lovers and stay in Premier Inns all the time (between 5-10 times a year) on the day of our stay I cancelled the Travelodge. This was a huge mistake!
We booked in around 4pm went into our room where all the beds were rammed together with no gap between the beds to get out. As we were having a coffee I heard a drip, it was the air conditioning unit leaking. I spoke to reception around 5 pm and asked if I could be moved, they informed me that I couldn't be moved that day as everyone had checked in, which I knew was to fob me off and I did question this and was assured everyone had checked in. Now staying in hotels regularly I knew for a fact this was lie and later on I witnessed a family check in and a single occupant check in. We were given a fan but in a South facing room on a hot day all it did was circulate the hot air and over the 2 nights we barely got any sleep.
Other things wrong with the room
2 cups (for 4 people staying)
2 glasses (for 4 people staying)
Main light out in the room
No bottle opener
Awful customer service when I complained telling me this is a standard premier Inn, when I said this is not standard he kept saying it was. I really do not think having all the nice wrong with the room is standard
I have since complained to Premier Inn, had a reply but no refund. I honestly am so disappointed in this hotel and if Premier Inn head office for the lack of response and refund under their guarantee good night sleep

First of all I received an email the early hours of the day I arrived advising the beefeater would be closed for the duration of my stay. As a solo female traveller I had chosen a premier inn with the view that I knew I would be arriving late (around 9pm) and didn’t want to have to go venturing out for food. I can only presume this was an issue with staff or the facility itself but no support was offered in relation to this. The room was a good size with the usual amenities however was quite tired. The grout in the bathroom was stained with what appeared to be hair dye and the bath panel was chipped all along the bottom. The bedding and towels were clean however there had clearly not been much attention to detail when cleaning the room itself. When bending down to plug my phone in by the bed, I noticed a contact lense and a small piece of chocolate on the floor. The skirting boards were also dusty and the curtains had some sort of food dried on them. At almost £140 for 2 nights I think I would have been better at the other well-known budget hotel!

Response from Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, Other at Chessington Hotel
Responded 12 May 2022
Hello, Thank you taking the time to share your review. We’re very sorry that you were left disappointed by the cleanliness standards in your room on arrival, as well as facing problems with the restaurant being closed during your stay. This certainly isn't the experience we would expect for you. The safety and wellbeing of our guests and teams has always been incredibly important to us and everyone in our hotels should rightly expect a safe, clean and protected environment. We apologise you found your room to not be up to the high standard we would expect on this occasion. We have ensured this feedback has been logged to the Hotel Management team so that they can look into these issues with our Housekeeping and Restaurant teams to prevent this experience from being repeated again in the future. Moving forward, our Reception team are on hand 24/7 and so we would advise speaking with the team as soon as any issues arise to help resolve this whilst you're still in-house. Again, our sincere apologies and thank you for taking the time to contact us. We hope we can welcome you for a more enjoyable stay moving forward. Kind regards, Lauren
