The hotel is well located a few steps from the lake, in an ideal position to visit Thun, the castles, St. Beatus Caves and the Niederhorn.
The chamber was big and had great views of the lake and the mountains; however, it looked a bit old-fashioned and would definitely benefit from a renovation. Wifi did not work in the room.
We chose the half-board option and we enjoyed the menu all 3 nights: traditional food, well presented, big portions. However we would have appreciated to know it in advance during the day, just in case we had to ask for some changes.
Breakfast was ok, with sweet and salty options; nothing wrong, nothing special.
The staff was ok, even if it was quite hard to find someone at the reception. Despite being quite a small hotel, we met a different waiter each time we sat at the restaurant.
We hired the e-bikes and we really appreciated the service and the bikes quality.
In summary, a nice hotel which is missing some details to be great. But we’ll definitely consider it for our next trip in the region.

Lovely hotel with a beautiful view of the lake. Staff were very friendly and helpful and supplied us with free passes for the buses in the area which meant we didn't have the hassle of driving and parking on our trips out. Breakfast was plentiful with a good selection to choose from. We had a lovely room in the annex which was modern and very clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would love to return one day.

Hotel seems to be at a lakefront- mistake. It is not.
The hotel is a B&B or a 2/3 star property. The rooms are extremely basic, which is a pity, because the building and the new extension have a charm and could possibly be a better decorated place.

The breakfast was a buffet very very weak, but have to admit their “Nutella” home made was very good.

We thought the hotel was in Thun, but realised it was quite a drive away.

we booked 3 rooms for 5 adults for 1 night while visiting Interlaken. we chose this hotel based on the positive reviews posted by fellow members. we were most disappointed with the quality of the dinner served and poor condition of the bathroom and towels. we were also shocked to learn that it was ok for flies to buzz around us while we dined indoor at the Hotel's restaurant.

first, the dining experience= poor. there were 2 flies buzzing around our table for more than 45 minutes. we informed the staff who just stood by while we tried to brush these flies away. we finally managed to get rid of them and i asked the waitress for a new napkin. the Manger on duty told me that i should not killed flies as they are animals. he stated that it was acceptable/normal to have flies circulating around the indoor dining room hovering over our food. we are global travellers and it was our first encounter with such attitude.

second, Risotto was mashed mixed with overcooked veggies and a strange slice of chinese bitter melon. the steak was overcooked even though we asked for medium rare. the pasta served with lamb was orange in color and lumped together as a block. the lemon ravioli with blueberry was strange tasting.

third, the towels for the bathroom were grey, worn out and frayed along the edges! Unbelievable poor condition. the shower stall and bathroom floor was dirty, moldy and stained. we had to wear our rubber slippers to shower.

it is the first time i ever submitted photos for my reviews as words cannot adequately describe the truth. my sincere wish that its management will improve on this standard and deliver better services. also, to remember to actual apply the 10 % discount for food and drinks for hotel guests as advertised or cancel this offer.

Charming, beautiful, friendly, and clean. Perfect night — dinner and room— on our Switzerland adventure. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was one of our best meals. Great breakfast the next morning. The views from the balcony were gorgeous. Highly recommend this place.

There are a few things you quickly learn when you have to travel internationally with any regularity. One of those things is that the term 'standard room' varies wildly depending on what part of the world you're in.

The Hotel Schonbuhl is a really great place, no doubt about it. It's location on Lake Thun is absolutely spectacular, and all of the surrounding area is as picturesque as you could ever possibly hope for. Literally right out of a storybook. Can't say enough good things.

The food in the hotel restaurant is also wonderful. Their chef is world class and they have a wine list to match. Not to mention the fact that you dine overlooking the lake, with the Alps in the background... what more could you want? Zero complaints there. Even the staff manages to put their gruff Germanic nature on hold to provide a pleasant and attentive experience overall.

So you have all of these wonderful qualities, which should add up to an overall home run... but then you get to your room, and it's a pretty epic letdown. A bed, a dresser, a closet and an old TV, with a couple of nightstands. The furniture looks like it could very easily be from Ikea, the mattress is not exactly Hästens and the sheets are a bit on the sandpaper side. There is also no internet service. I mean, the average room at a Four Points by Sheraton is like the Ritz-Carlton in comparison. Not what you'd expect from such an otherwise lovely place.

But such is to be expected in Europe... they simply do not have the same standards for these kinds of things as we do in America. A small hotel is just not expected to be appointed in the way a larger one is, regardless of price point.

Now, with that having been said, as long as you're not expecting the Four Seasons as far as furnishings, you can't beat the view from the rooms or the fresh air that you get when you open your windows. It's just heavenly. And it's quiet enough that you'll sleep like a baby, even if it's not the most comfortable bedding setup ever. Another plus is that rooms are clean as a whistle, and the bathrooms come stocked with some great toiletry products as well.

Beautiful views, spacious rooms, extremely friendly staff. We really enjoyed our stay here, and we had an excellent dinner and breakfast. Very clean and quiet. My family loved it.
We have several food allergies in our family, and I let them know ahead of time. The kitchen and service staff was prepared with options and were really accommodating.
Highly recommend!

I'm 14, and last year a school trip to Switzerland was organised, and I went along for the trip. The 10 day holiday was tremendous and I enjoyed it massively. The hotel, Schonbuhl, was excellent, our group had a floor to ourselves and all of us could simply hang around with each other whenever we please, downstairs we all liked to stay up and talk and play cards. The view from my hotel room was spectacular.
The food was also fantastic, there was only one dessert that I didn't like, but that is only due to my personal disliking for pineapple. Food was varied and there was always a different culinary dish for us every night, and for those who had special requirements(vegetarian, allergic to gluten), those requirements were met.
The staff were very helpful and made our stay at the hotel easily enjoyable as well. Also, after traveling around Switzerland, we would return to our hotel, which many of us called home, and have a great time in the pool. We were fortunate enough to have great weather, every day before dinner we would go into the pool and play water volleyball with our friends. Then everyone would enjoye dressing and preparing for dinner.
I would definetely recommend this hotel to anybody, unfortunately, the hotel(I heard) specialises in groups, and if you are a sole traveller, then you might not be able to stay. However groups of people on a trip should definetely try the Schonbuhl, it was part of my very memorable Swiss experience and I loved it.
