We stayed at this hotel as a group during the summer holidays. it was just ok, I wont be back and nothing that i liked really.
The rooms were quite big (paid £92 extra for a sea view). Mini fridge in the rooms and a hair dryer. Unfortunately we didn't have a double bed, the 2 singles worked their way apart all the time and often we woke up almost on the floor. We had spilt some cola on the bedsheets so I had taken it off the bed for the maid in the morning and left the stain on the top so she could see we needed a new one yet when we returned to the room the same stained bedsheet had been refitted onto the mattress with the stain still on it- makes you wonder if they ever clean them! The cleaners weren't great at all.
The pool had a very small number of sunbed and space and we had to wake up every morning to get one. The pool itself was way too deep for a family hotel. The shallowest part was up to my neck (being 5'5) then most of it was over 2 meters deep which was ridiculous and meant that most children crowded round the steps.
The entertainment team did try and did games of water polo but there wasn't much in the day at all. Evening entertainment was usually a kids disco and later a naff singer or dancer.
The bar operated an annoying system where you were given a ticket on arrival and you had to exchange it for a drink, then when you finished the drink you exchanged the cup for a new ticket so you could get a new drink. Basically you couldn't have more than 1 drink at once. One positive was that bottled water was included in the all inclusive.
The food was just shocking. Breakfast was fine, not loads of fruit and not loads of cooked stuff but could always get something. Lunch was fine, usually some sort of pasta dish that was edible and a nice desert or ice-cream. Dinner was terrible, we only ate in once and it was terrible. all food was catered towards Europeans. Most dishes were fish related and swimming in watery oil. wouldn't feed it to the dog. Only expect to eat here if all you want is chicken nuggets and chips.
The staff were quite rude. They were not there to serve you at all and just seemed mardy. The blonde lady with short hair on the desk was so rude and spoke to us like we were stupid! Although, Monica the bar lady was quite nice and often would chat and laugh with guests.
Overall i really did not enjoy my stay here at all and will not be returning.

Hotel is nice, clean staff are nice and helpful. Beds are comfy and rooms aren't too cramped for family of 4. Fridge in our room which is handy for water.
Food and Drink... we went all inclusive to me it's a waste unless your going to live on cheese or ham n cheese toasties and pork burgers (it's not beef) and drink only san Miguel or vodka and sodas very little options majority of drinks has fee even if your all inclusive .... each day there's choice for all inclusive food the pool 1 snack 1 sweet 1 sandwich and choice of 2 hot food, basically popcorn or nuts a muffin or pastry ham n cheese toasties or cheese toasties and a burger or crepes. chips pizza nuggets etc are all extra. The buffet is not great if you've a fussy eater forget about it. Pasta and salad was OK fish and meat very oily and poor selection. No drinks wit dinner only water you'd want to bring them up from the bar with you. Ice creams by the pool are only for kids for 1 hour of the day with all inclusive , they are 2 to 4 euro each outside that. Pool is fabulous lots of sunbeds but cud do wit shades. Great location close to beach and shops and main strip of restaurants not far. Don't waste your money wit all inclusive like we did it's very very basic and misleading. Entertainment is not great either a quiz or bingo done through an app on ur phone at 10/10.30pm when ur fit for bed if you've kids.
It's a nice hotel but I wouldn't come back again.

Our bedroom was pretty awful, needing renovation. We complained and we were moved to another one-no better except the wardrobe door wasn't hanging off. The bathroom was disgusting, dirty and old. The shower curtain did not keep the water from spraying everywhere as there were not many curtain rings holding it on. One plastic glass was provided. The bedding was only changed the day before we left (after 11 nights) and the balcony was very grubby. We asked our TUI rep to help us but he did not follow anything up -no help at all. The food was very good, with a great choice and a clean dining room with lovely staff. The bar staff were very pleasant and helpful but for us there were too many children running around with no supervision, even when their entertainment was over and it was supposed to be then for the adults. The entertainment staff worked very hard though. The pool area was not large enough for the amount of guests , with broken sun beds and not enough sun shades if you were lucky enough to manage to get by the pool. We will not be returning.

Went on an all inclusive to this hotel. Asked for a poolside view months before got a building site view and we're told we had to pay €120 to upgrade which tbh we had to. Told all jet2 customers get rooms round the back not told that when booking. Entertainment each night REALLY 4 nights out of 11 .food just passable but always cold. Would not recommend this hotel as it really has gone backwards apparently.

I don't think I ever stayed in a hotel that was so completely lacking in character as this one. Bland rooms, bland food, bland service (the only shoutout is to the cleaning ladies who did their work well). We even had to buy a bar of soap to wash our hands as the only soap that was supplied was mounted to the wall over under the shower A long 20 minute walk to the train station with Barcelona-bound trains.

I give these 2 stars because of the location only. Nice beach and lots of activities available in beach area. But hotel is not as expected . we went there last week of May 2024 and temperature reached 25 Celsius. Although it indicates that air condition room in facilities, we got rooms without A/C. When I asked about it , I was told that whole hotel have a system that switch on a/c for all rooms at once and individual rooms can not switch on a/c itself. They are going to switch it on week after we finish our holiday which was a shame. Our room was so small for a family of 4 and room was so hot at night with no A/C. Kids didn’t get good sleep. Holiday was a disaster. Food was not great either. Evening entertainment is just a 20 minute of bingo daily during our stay and then just simply play music only. I’m surprised it is a 4 star hotel.

4-star Medplaya Santa Monica Hotel with low-quality infrastructure.
Canteen - Small for so many guests that generate huge queues at meal times. The food is good but they only serve sparkling drinks, hot drinks are only available at breakfast.
Bar - Ok, with access to any type of drinks. Excellent entertainers, very friendly but the repertoire is very repetitive, especially for children.
Reception - Depends on the person on duty, they are generally not very attentive.
Personel - Friendly and attentive but not very determined, perhaps due to the huge volume of tourists. Some of the customer service staff are Ukrainians and speak little or no Spanish and little English.
Calella - Sand beaches with stones and access to the sea only for people who know how to swim, I don't recommend it for families with children.
Coral Travel - Terrible quality, they are simply interested in making money, service and support does not exist.
Excursions - The bus tour to Costa Brava, which includes a visit to Tossa del Mar, a boat trip and a gastronomic visit, was canceled without prior notice and there are no major alternatives due to the volume of tourists and lack of free seats.
In general, the town of Calella, as well as the regions close to Costa Brava, despite being well rated, the high number of tourists and the low quality of beaches and service are not the right place to spend a peaceful and profitable holiday.

This is our 3rd stay at santa Monica in the last 3 years. We have stayed in the same room each time. We absolutely love Calella and this hotel is a great place to stay. The staff are friendly. There is plenty of choice at meal times , with fresh meat cooked on a hot plate at the buffet counter by a chef each evening. Entertainment is mainly Spanish , but the compares can translate into English ,especially for the Bingo each night. This hotel guests are mainly Spainish. Hotel close to stunning beaches , shops , restaurants and a train station with direct routes to Barcelona. €11.80 pp return. With love Calella and this hotel so much we have booked again for May 2025.

We stayed at the Hotel Santa Monica for our honeymoon in 1974 when it first opened. We returned 50 years later as part of our Golden Wedding celebrations and were so pleased we did. The hotel was so different to how we remembered it – the improvements and refurbishments over the years had bought it fully up-to-date and very comfortable. We let the hotel know in advance why we were returning, and they made us very welcome, the reception staff and management were just lovely. We had a record of which room we had stayed in first time around (on a top floor with a sea view) and asked for the same room as on our first visit ... the team were kind enough to do this, which made it extra special. More generally the hotel was lovely, restaurant and food good, and the plenty of sunbeds round the pool. Special thanks to Vicky and Minerva on reception and Juan the bar manager for making us so welcome. (Photos show our visits from 1974 and 2024!)

Spent 2 weeks at this hotel ,most of which we enjoyed .The rooms were nice and the pool was great ,no sunbed rush in a morning got a bed anytime ,not many English holiday makers. We went half board the food was average, the only reason we would not return are the queues in the dining room sometimes back up 2 flights of stairs, then once you get in another queue for food, tried different times but no better. Area was near to beaches and shops.
