This was our second experience with the Melia hotels - the first one was Sol Katmandu, which is also very very good. Barbados is perfect from A to Z, great location, perfect staff and delicious food and drinks. Very good pools for kids and for adults too. Looking forward to come back soon!

We stayed here from Aug 1st - Aug 8th 2022 as a family of two adults and kids 5 and 8 years old and also with grandma and grandpa with us. I will write an honest review. We arrived late at 2.00 am at the hotel and recieved nothing to eat or drink, so first impression was not really good. Although the receptionist Jesus was really nice and kind. The room we got was in 9th floor and grandparents’ in 11th. Both rooms were the same size, one big king size bed and a sofa bed. Nice bathroom and balcony. Rooms were cleaned daily and towels changed daily. No kettle in the room, it is of extra charge. Safe also extra charge. This hotel is really big, so be prepared to wait a few minutes to get into the elevator. There are three though, so it’s not such a big problem. Now about the queues for meals: for every meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) there are two staff ladies standing on the entrance of the restaurant, asking for how many people you need a table and then they take you to your table. This is why the queues are outside the restaurant. But even when we were last in line, we never waited more than 5,10 minutes. I don’t understand why people are so angry about this. In my opinion this organisation is perfect - three weeks ago we were in the same category hotel in Sardinia where there was no organisation like this and also buffet meals and what happened was that people entered the restaurant, took plates and food and then when they wanted to sit down to eat there was no space and they had to wait inside the restaurant, standing with their food getting cold on the plate. This is why I really had to make a comment or more to say a compliment to this kind of organisation in Sol Barbados hotel. Now about the quality of food, there is something for everyone, cooked food, baked, fast food, fruit, desserts, candies, vegetables, salads… we liked the food and drinks also. About the water park, it was amazing! Our kids really loved it! We all had a lot of fun. A lot of animation by the pool. Every evening animation in the hotel, which was also very nice and funny. Water park opens at 10.00 and if you are not there exactly at this time (or before) believe me you will not get a bed because people are waiting there from 9.00. But that was also not a problem to us. We came at 10.00 and found beds for us. Beach is about 5minutes walking from the hotel, nice and sandy. Beds cost 13,5eur for two. Prices in Magaluf are low, it really isn’t an expensive town. There is a lot going on on the evenings and at night in Magaluf. A lot of mini markets around Sol Barbados hotel. In the room there is a fridge but it’s empty. We used it for bottles of water. In this hotel (and in Mallorca in general) everyone speaks english very well. Most of their guests are British. We really really liked it there, it offers everything that we needed for a nice family vacation. The only thing that was missing was gym. And it’s a pitty, since there are lot’s of other sport activities in the hotel. There is also enough space to make one. If it had a gym it would be definitely 5*. But in this case it is a nice 4*. I recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to be in a lively town near the beach, with a super nice water park, tasty food and great animation. We would love to come back.

I visited this hotel between 26/07 and 02/08 (first week of school holiday and peak season). It is fair to say, the reviews for this hotel are definitely mixed. Some of the points made are fair, and some are absolutely ridiculous. I am not the type to ever even leave a reviews, but for this hotel it is definitely necessary. - the pools, entertainment, kids club, facilities, staff (especially the entertainment team and Gabi on the bar) are OUTSTANDING. - children are entertained all day at this hotel, my 4 and 8 year olds had the BEST time and wanted to do the week all over again. Life guards are great - my child fell over and a lady came to assist me straight away and check she was ok. The water slide pool is absolutely fantastic but would reccomend getting sunbeds by the other pool and going to the water slide pool for a couple hours in the afternoon as it is a bit manic. - sunbeds: it’s an all inclusive family hotel: if you don’t want to be up reserving sunbeds by the pool quite early, then an adults only trip to the Maldives is probably more appropriate for you. Just is what it is on these kind of holidays. - the kids club/entertainment staff are the best I’ve ever seen. So welcoming, friendly and happy. (Saw a complaint about them speaking to the English kids in Spanish sometimes - if you don’t like Spanish, don’t go to Spain!) - the food (something I’ve seen the most complains about) was GREAT. Meat cooked fresh for you, pasta stations, daily specials and something for everyone. Even for the fussiest of eaters. People forget that you’re staying at an all inclusive family hotel - you aren’t going to be getting 10/10 food that will blow your mind - but the food was delicious and never ‘stone cold’ like some pointed out. Only thing that could be improved was the labelling as it was sometimes unclear what the food was. The queue to enter the resteraunt was never longer than 10 mins at any point in the day and the staff in the resteraunt worked incredibly hard. - the lifts: we upgraded our room to family room with solarium (this was on the first floor) so never had to wait for a lift, but I never saw more than 3 families queuing for a lift at any one time (that being said I am sure it is frustrating). - the room: always incredibly clean, the solarium room was great for when kids were asleep as somewhere to chill on a sunbed. Lovely and spacious with a great view of the pool/sea - beds were very comfy too. - the beach: this hotel is literally a 2 minute walk from the beautiful beach, me and my partner loved walking down with a coffee in the morning. - the drinks - BEST quality cocktails I’ve ever had on all inclusive (I reccomend the frozen strawberry/passion fruit mojitos) and the barista-style coffees. There was NEVER a queue longer than 15 minutes and because the drinks are never served in tiny/pathetic sized cups we didn’t have to go up too regularly anyway. The bar staff were sometimes a bit stressed - but worked very hard. Gabi was so friendly and really did care about his job - it definitely showed. Only thingvI’d reccomend here would be for soft drinks to be ‘self-serve’ style - it would take the pressure off the bar staff. - we met another lovely family at this hotel with similar aged kids, so the adults all felt as though we had a relaxing stay too with the kids being constantly entertained at this hotel - 10/10. Overall, people clearly just love to moan. This was a fantastic stay for me and my family, and from people who say they’d never usually return to the same place - we would happily stay again. So much fun for the whole family, drinks, food and entertainment was top class.

We were so excited to try this hotel. With the slides, location and amenities. So disappointed. There is ques for absolutely everything. It's crazy. Pushing shoving arguing. Ques for the kids pool is dangerous and everyone pushes and shoves then runs. The main pool beds are gone from 7.30am. The kids slides pool if you don't que for 9.30am you won't get a bed for gates opening at 10am. A spanish family kept 10 beds yesterday, left them at 11am and still werent back by 6pm. Families with young children were struggling with the heat and could of made use of these beds and umbrellas. Completely disgusting behaviour. The staff did nothing when alerted several times to this. Meal times are loud and extremely busy. Nothing relaxing about the hotel environment. Something needs done about the sunbed situation. I found the reception staff unhelpful and dismissive. Any query I had they simply dismissed it. Not helpful at all. Definitely won't return.

Dear C2665VPdenises, First of all, thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Sol Barbados with the TripAdvisor community. We are sorry to hear that you had to queue to eat in one of the two restaurants or to order a drink at the bar. I can assure you that we are doing our best to reduce waiting times and speed up queues. Regarding the sun loungers, we are not allowed to touch the guests' belongings in order to remove them, but we are still evaluating different ways to solve the lack of solidarity of the guests. Best regards, Magdalena Cicchirillo Guest Experience Manager

Read reviews before we booked in August 2020 and before we travelled July 2022. I went with an open mind and very excited weeks holiday for my mothers 60th birthday. We travelled 5 adults and 3 kids (7,9 & 12). Firstly the cleaners done a fabulous job with the rooms couldn’t fault them and the kept the rooms tidy and fresh each day. Pools 6 in total out of the 6 only one can be used for inflatables which was the too far end pool at the deepest 2.02 m this very shocking gets better when they allowed the main top pool to be filled with inflatables for the Barbados pool party! Been to better kids parties thanks! Lifeguards let the kids do what they want going down slides and so many at a time or sit with their faces in their phones. No toilet incidents at the pools while we were there. Although we did visit western water park and kamandu over 2 days. Full of Spanish guests it’s spot the British which gets better when their treated differently and then say they don’t understand when skipping the meal queues. Never have I ever been to a hotel where you can’t have food at the pools all comes down to staff and they don’t have enough. Not once did I see any staff checking pool areas and picking up empty cups etc What I don’t understand is why we can’t go from bottom water park pools to the top pools using the stairs outside no we have to go through hotel up 4 flights of stairs!!!! Food is awful no themed nights,no music basically a very loud school canteen. We survived at breakfast and out the 6 nights we ate out 5 of them we brought enough money but appreciate not everyone can do the same. Snacks was disgusting the cold chips left over from lunch. We would never return a guest came over to me when we were told to take inflatables out the pool by lifeguard she said she visited in 2019 and rebooked for 2022 she said it’s changed so much for the worse and would never return, I agree!! Very brutal but honest!!

I usually take reviews with a pinch of salt as some people are so picky . I’m afraid this is a bad one . Went to this hotel with 4 other families , on arrival rooms not ready , went to pool to cool off , pool closed as some had pooped in it and they were cleaning it . This happened 5 days out of 10 . We complained to reception , we had 7 children with us who couldn’t play in the pool on a scorching day . Queues for restaurant 15 mins upwards , food awful , some was uncooked meat , having to wait in queues for certain things to be cooked , the rest of the food was cold . Queues for lifts , small lifts serving 1500 people over 11 floors . Queue 20 mins for one small bar in pool area , often with only one person serving , no wonder they weee getting pissed off . Same at night , that bar also served the entertainment bit inside . Slushes but always seem to be not ready . Rude staff , who didn’t really care about our complaints , except the lovely restaurant manager . Good points , when the pool is open it’s lovely but kids are not allowed lilo or inflatables , there is a plunge pool but it is very deep , no good for little ones and there is a water park on -2 level doesn’t open till 12 though ????? Strange method for pool towel change , having to go back and forth to reception for tickets then pay 1 euro per towel after paying 10 euro initially . Hotel clean , rooms cleaned everyday although rooms very basic and outdated Air conditioning rubbish , rooms really hot no tea or coffee making facilities . We did have a room with a great view over the pool which we paid extra for . Does not warrant a 4* rating and it was expensive . Do yourself a favour , find another hotel .

Dear pennyk629 I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the tripadvisor community. I am sorry to hear that during your stay 1 of the 6 pools had to be closed for hygienic reasons. I would like to inform you that all pools are open from 10am to 7pm. Following our commitment to the environment and water consumption, the change of clean towels has an extra cost of 1€, however the 10€ you paid at the beginning is a deposit, at the end of your stay we have returned it to you. I can assure you that the hotel management is doing everything possible to reduce waiting times in the restaurant and bar. Best regards Magdalena Cicchirillo Guest Experience Manager

We stayed week beginning 24th-31st we travelled as a family of 4, children 7 & 5 then we met our friends family of 4, children 5 & 1, our room was on 12th floor, our friends were on the 1st floor. They arrived the Saturday, there room wasn’t ready on arrival but ours was so that was great we were down the pool by 11am so we got almost a full day :-) The lifts did get very busy at times occasionally we walked down but was too much to walk up. We had a great week in the sun, all our children and us adults loved the water slides they made our holiday so much fun. The splash area is also great for little ones. The other pool had entertainment everyday day which we went to a few times which was also great. You do have to be down by 9.30 to get the sun beds they all go soon as the pool opens at 10 am. Other pool had towels on beds from 7am most likely earlier. The bars were always busy, would have been great to be able to self serve soft drinks I think this would have helped with the queues and took a little pressure of the bar staff. The restaurant does also get very busy at peak times, we tried to go a little earlier to avoid a queue with the children, we didn’t go hungry always a great selection the Paella and deserts were really yummy. Evening entertainment was inside which was so hot so we didn’t watch it but the children went in and enjoyed the shows, The hotel was quite warm and busy most of time. There isn’t enough seating or sun loungers or even any space for anymore to accommodate the whole hotel. The staff work so hard to keep the hotel running and guests happy, we had an amazing week as it’s what you make it isn’t it but we all felt the hotel could have been better if it wasn’t at full capacity there just didn’t seem enough space for everyone. We made sure we were always early To get beds and chairs but I’m sure some people missed out. We ate out at Blackbeards a couple of nights which is amazing the food is delicious and live music (nice for a change If you fancy a wonder) . Coming home we had a evening flight, check out is at 12 so we got packed up and out the room by 10, stored our cases in the luggage room, there is also 2 family shower rooms in there so we used those after a day around the pool before travelling home. They were spotless and fresh towels for you to use. The hotel is clean and you’ll always see staff cleaning around it. The pool with slides could do with a good jet wash as there is some algae building up which could be very slippery if children are running. All in all we had a great week and could have stayed longer, all the staff work extremely hard to keep the guests happy. Short walk to beach, shops and restaurants nearby.

This is the first time leaving a holiday where I am not sad to leave. I actually cannot wait to get home! Where to start good points; kids loved the water world pool. Now for bad points; me and my husband both ended up with food poisoning both being adventurous eaters we were happy to try the food on offer but sadly both fell really poorly fortunately the kids were not so adventurous and stuck to chips and burgers so they weren’t Poorly I can honestly say I have never been wiped out for 2 days on holiday before. An 18ct gold necklace went missing on day 2 from my bedroom the only person who could possibly have done this was the cleaner whether by accident or on purpose told reception they said they would contact the cleaners in the morning went back down to reception in the morning and had to explain the situation again to be told again they’d get the cleaners to look, never heard anything, on the last day we absolutely emptied our room and double checked in every nook and cranny on the off chance it had fallen somewhere but it was nowhere to be seen. Followed up with reception for a third time and had to explain the whole situation yet again this time they did actually write it on a piece of paper but no one seems at all interested or concerned that this has gone missing from my room. The rooms were an inadequate size with having a 9 and 12 year old you could not gain access to the patio doors properly with the sofa bed down shouldn’t be sold as suitable for 4 people. There were simply not anywhere near enough sun beds to cater for the number of guests. The main pool with all of the entertainment round we weren’t ever able to get a bed I think people must have been getting up between 5 and 6 am to sit there so we missed out on the entertainment. We could only ever get a bed at the water world pool because it opened at 10am this pool had no atmosphere. But the opening of the pool is a serious accident waiting to happen. They make you wait at the top of the stairs by 10am there is at least 100 adults and children waiting when they open it literally becomes a stampede down the stairs to secure sun loungers. It’s quite a scary experience and really ruined the holiday it felt like you were having to fight to secure a bed for the day. It’s clearly peak season so a lot of people here but the hotel just isn’t big enough to cater for this many people properly just not enough staff to deal with the numbers. Personally I wouldn’t come here again and have been left feeling very disappointed.

We arrived to this hotel at 11am. Our room wasn’t ready till 4pm which wasn’t ideal as like anyone it’s been a long travel and you just want to get straight. We could place our suitcases in the luggage area. It’s not very secure. I’d recommend having your swimwear ready so you don’t have to sift through your suitcase, this way you can while away the hours till your room is ready. The pools are very good, especially the childrens pool with all the slides. The kids will absolutely love it. Our two girls spend hours and hours going down them and couldn’t get enough. The pools can be manic but it’s peak season, what do you expect. They also do many of free water games for both kids and adults and they are all enjoyed by the guests. These massive queues at the bars is nonsense. There were peak times of the day or evening they get slightly busier but it’s really no big deal. The bar staff were all very helpful and Gabi the young lad made great drinks, that weren’t to strong. The criticism of the food really annoyed me here. I’m not joking when I say, you could have a full English if you wished. Bacon isn’t great but the rest was very nice. You could have a continental breakfast with lovely meats and pastries. Churros and pancakes the kids loved. You can have omelette made for you fresh from the frying pan. There was always fresh fruit, lovely coffee and juices. Lunch was always fantastic, fresh meats or fish grilled for you, fresh pasta dishes made for you on the spot. Chips and burgers for the picky. There was stewed meats that were divine, fresh rice and the salad available was delicious, again. I despair at the bad reviews at the food. Maybe people should try some new things, you are in Majorca!! Dinner, we’ll usually we were so full up we skipped dinner, but when we did have it again it was divine. We tended to have a few snacks in the evening buffet after the entertainment. There is also kids club, which we didn’t expect our kids to go to as they just loved all the pool fun, however they met some lovely friends and they all decided to go on the odd occasions. They loved it and they staff were awesome. It’s a tough job as there is many nationalities to cater too, but they do it with massive energy and the kids are all beaming with delight when they exit. The staff there deserve huge credit. 👍. There is a morning session for 2 1/2 hours and an evening one for 1 1/2 hours. If your kids decide they want to go, don’t feel bad as they love it. The entertainment in the evening was brilliant on every evening, kids disco then good entertainment from circus, Wild West, cinema, bands, gymnasts, magician. The kids were in ore of all of it even bubble man. The earlier you get to the bar area the better seats you can get for a table. 20:00 ish was a good time. The rooms were kept clean and fresh towels everyday. Didn’t spend much time in the room but showers were superb. Our toilet broke, but was fixed right away by maintenance. The lifts are very hot inside and there you could definately argue there isn’t enough to cover the demand, but that’s not going to change and it is peak season. We tended to go down the stairs and try use the lift to go up, but sometimes we chose to walk. Personally I thought the air conditioning throughout the whole building could be cooler. Now, of course this hotel isn’t perfect, but considering it’s a large family hotel, manic in the peak season, what they achieve here deserves great credit, good rooms, good drinks, LOVELY FOOD good entertainment day/night. Kids heaven. The staff are all very helpful and full of enthusiasm. I definitely recommend this hotel. Thanks for a wonderful holiday. Our little family of 4 had an amazing time. Just crank that air con up. 👍🏻👍🏻
