I came back from the Occidental Cala Vinas yesterday, 09.10.2021, my adult daughter and me stayed for a week.

Check in was quite smooth and quick, I had a superior room booked, my daughter a seaview room. I did struggle a bit to find the room, the different buildings are somewhat disconnected. Once in the room, I discovered that the room did not have a walk- in shower. As I had an accident very recently, I am still finding climbing difficult and called reception for another room with the desired walk-in shower, which was sorted out quite quickly. I was given a family apartment at no extra cost as these seem to be the only rooms with the walk in facility.
The room was of adequate standard, the aircon unit was sufficient. Unfortunately there were initially no English TV channels, I did mention this to reception and miraculously they became available, but only BBC1 and BBC2, and Cbeebees. I do enjoy watching German TV but no channels neither, so again after mentioning this, they also were available half way through the holiday.

The bed was quite comfortable, but the spanish pillows are not what we are used to here. They are a lot longer but thinner, so you may need to ask for extras and this is not just the case in this hotel. The cleaning lady dealt with the extra pillow request promptly.

Food was better than I expected, I never really use myself as a gauge because I am a veggie, but I always found something to eat. I especially enjoyed the "Middle East night". The waiting staff are efficient and friendly, bar one waiter who never ever smiled or spoke to us. His haircut reminded me a bit of Diego Maradona, I dont know his name. The rest of the staff were lovely and made up for Mr. Miserable. The one thing I always miss in Spain is tomatoes, olives and cucumber for breakfast, this was always available at all other meal times. But having said this, there were choices of different cold meats, cheeses and sometimes even cubes of feta cheese.

There are two pools on different levels. The whole resort is on different levels, so if you have difficulty with mobility, this may not be the hotel for you. There are lifts etc but there is still a bit of walking to do from one block to the next. The pools were freezing cold, the sun is not strong enough any more to warm the water, and none of the pools, including the indoor pool, are heated. This was a shame as we do enjoy swimming. The staff at the pool bar were friendly and there was no wait to be served.

The entertainment team really made our holiday! These guys are absolutely fantastic and work very very hard! 3 men and 1 lady, thank you so much for all the laughs and good times we had, your shows are incredibly good, you all have real talent. Thank you DJ Santana, Gregorio and team!! (from Deniz and Larissa).

All in all we did enjoy our stay at this hotel, thank you Occidental Cala Vinas, you did good.

We stayed at this hotel for 9 nights and had an All Inclusive package. However, from the moment we entered the hotel we realised that it was much different to what most people would class as an all inclusive.

Let's start with the negatives. We were asked to pay 3 Euros per day if we wanted to use the safe in our room which was ridiculous as being a frequent traveller, I've never seen a hotel charge to use the safe in the rooms for the guests to keep their belongings safe.

The All Inclusive is not really what it is meant to be, there are certain drinks such as beer, sangria, cocktail of the day and certain spirits that are included but things like cocktails you have to pay money for which was weird as once again this was meant to be an all inclusive holiday.

Also, let's not forget to mention that although there are more than one bar in the hotel they've only kept one running which is shocking considering how busy the hotel was when we stayed and it also meant if you wanted to spend time at the other pool you'd have to walk down 5 floors every time you wanted to grab a drink or something to eat at the snack bar.

If you like the all inclusive because of the food and drinks then reconsider because the food here was really poor, the only meal of the day we could eat was the breakfast as the lack of option for lunch and dinner made it very hard. Because of this we had to spend extra money to eat out of the hotel several times as the food in the restaurant was just horrible.

Although I had written this all on an email to the hotel on the first or second day of our stay no one actually bothered to reply which is why I am extra disappointed.

However, incase you don't really care about the food or the drinks this hotel is located in an amazing discreet beach with amazing sea. We would spend most of our time on the beach as the pool was over occupied so to socially distance ourselves we'd spend time on the beach which was spectacular.

Oh and I do want to say that the coffee in the hotel was seriously really nice, if anything that was the one thing we enjoyed drinking every day, as well the sangria with banana liquor.

Also for those that also don't enjoy the hotel food, there is also a really nice small boutique beach bar located towards the back of the beach with cheap and tasty food and amazing cocktails.

If you want to enjoy your time at this hotel, keep your expectations exceptionally low, make friends with the great animation team as they did an exceptional job in keeping guests happy even with the current circumstances.

To wrap up, if I were to ever go back to Occidental which is very unlikely I don't think I would ever pay for All Inclusive and not even Full or Half Board I'd just pay for breakfast and thats it to enjoy the nice views and the beach.

However, at this moment of time I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends and family.

Where to begin, the good, the rooms are very nice, they offer aircon, a super king size bed with nice mattreses. The bathroom and toilet are also very nice offering walk in shower, plus hair shower add on, basin and towels are also nice quality. The quality of food and pools is also very good, along with two swimming pools that are cleaned every day as you would expect. Now the not so good, I am a wheelchair user, but walking wounded as well, which is just as well as the people who designed the hotel were not disabled, the ramps are all way to steep, and there were no ramps at all beyond the lift to our room and had to exit the wheelchair, so more painkillers and walking. The restaurant is also a haven for mosquitos, that wait on the ceiling for human blood to come to them, I could not quite figure out why, but then outside the restaurant there is green looking water feature, an ideal habitat for mosquitos. There seemed to be cups and saucers for Coffee or tea in the morning, but no teaspoons.
We did not really engage with the entertainment so cannot comment, but drinks we had real issues, we were all inclusive, we ordered Bicardi and Coke at the poolbar, no problem, asked the same at the main evening bar and got a cheap alternative, we ordered quantro and lemonade, pool bar said nothing, wanted to charge in main evening bar, then another day they wanted to charge for quantro and charge for cheap alternative, All over the place. Air-conditioning was absent in public places making life uncomfortable. Hand gel stations whilst active were empty our whole stay. Personally we would not return mainly because the disabled part of the hotel is poor.

Arrived at 2 PM, they didn’t allow to check earlier, by the way the hotel was nearly empty.
Had to pay a deposit for towels, which is fair enough EUR 15 per towel, deposit for safe and charge per day for safe extra.
On same evening safe was not opening as batteries were empty.
The water tab was a disaster, was complete wet, as so much water splashed out, which was fixed next day.
Had to cover everything around the water tab with towels, as everything was wet!
Curtains in the room are disgusting, have not seen anything dirty like this before.
Bedsheets had holes, so I don’t really know how old they are.
Food was ok on the fist evening, next day hotel started filling up, and when going for dinner by 9, I got hungry as most was empty, they can’t cope with bigger amount of guests.
To be fair if you got something to eat, from the small selection, the quality was not bad!
Final straw for this 1 star review, room was not cleaned on my last day.
To be fair I left the cleaning lady 5 Euros tip, and she saw me next day leaving my room at 10am.
Of course when returning in the evening room was not cleaned, and Tip for the day was an my bed.
Called reception, to get at least fresh towels, nothing happened for half an hour, went to reception to ask again for fresh towels, was assured that someone was in my room as we speak.
Returned to room, and guess what, no one there.
I would rate this property with 2 stars, but only because the small amount of food had a good quality, if you are lucky to get some.
Be aware, this hotel can not cope with many guests, and if you wish for a relaxing holiday wit a bit of service, this is sadly not the right property.
Obviously this is Mallorca, and the hotels know, everyone will come back, so they don’t really care about you, as they know somehow they will fill up their properties eventually.

The best bits…
The hotel is in Cala Vinyes which is a beautiful little cove where the sea pretty much remains in all day and creates a wonderful kind of lagoon making swimming and water activities a real joy.
As the cove is largely residential with only 1 hotel either side, it is lovely and quiet and if you want a taste of more action, then Magaluf is but a 25-minute walk away.
The rooms are spacious, modern and clean. Sufficient storage for 2 people, air conditioning that works really well, the room safe is included with the room, a small fridge and a TV with a variety of channels but only 3 news channels in English.
The team at the hotel are all wonderful, pleasant and helpful.
A great choice of very nice food, plenty of choice with some local dishes. Excellent varieties of meats and possibly the best fried eggs and bacon for breakfast I have ever had. Each meal at breakfast, lunch and dinner had enough different choices to satisfy most needs.
Morning sunbed frenzy – in short, there wasn’t any of that here. So you could have a long relaxing breakfast, get back to your room and still find plenty of space all the way up until lunch time.
Events looked fun, the animation team did a great job.
Free WiFi!

The OK bits..
All Inclusive drinks. The beer is Cruzcampo which can be quite heavy, the wines with meals were at the bottom end of the price scale, drinkable but definitely in the under £5 a bottle territory. Some cocktails were also included but seemed to lack any punch, so they seemed more like a nice fruit flavoured drink.
The shower in the room is a monsoon type head, which was okay but lacked a little power so felt a little under whelming.
There is a reasonable gym with some pieces of loose weight equipment, smith machine, kettlebells, dumbbells etc , a treadmill and a bike – open most of the day, just didn’t have any air con so take plenty of water.

The not so good..
Not much not to like really, I would recommend everything about this hotel, the only area which could improve was the check in. It seemed to take around 20mins per family to check in, that could be quicker and if you arrive with a coach load of others, be prepared for a wait.
Whilst not a major issue but when using your room, it would have been better to have a little more TV channel choice in English. There were many more German and French channels comparatively.
The TV also had streaming apps, like Netflix, but not connected to the internet so not accessible.

This is my fourth time in Mallorca which I absolutely love, but the first stay in Cala Vinas and first time in all inclusive in Spain. I fell in love with the hotel and location from the travel agency pictures however reading the reviews I was a bit afraid it would not meet our expectation. And I was very wrong to feel like that. We loved everything about our stay here. The location of the hotel is somewhat remove but lovely and it’s position almost on the very beach of the small Cala is great. I actually prefer this location than being close to the very busy tourist areas in Magaluf or Palmanova. We could actually relax and enjoy the beautiful location. The room we had was in block 1 and it was family room and it was very good, big, clean, with everything we needed. It was quiet and comfortable.
The attractions in place are: 1 kids pool with playground and one adults swimming pool at 4 th floor plus mini club. In the ground floor one adults swimming pool and kids pool plus beach, theatre, ping pong, pool and other games. The restaurant is buffet style. We had all inclusive and we were eating there all the meals. We love Spanish food and for us the food was delicious. I read in some reviews people complaining about the food but to be honest I do not understand the reasons for complaint. The food was great and we Enjoyed it very much. For lunch and dinner you had the waiters open bottles of wine (as oposed to it being poured from the big kegs like in Greece or Turkey). The wine was very good. Plus for breakfast there was cava which was also good. The bars had good quality drinks. For all
Inclusive there were only 4 cocktails included however for example for a mojito you would pay 3,5 Eur which is not much.
My son loved the animation: mini club, mini disco.

Went for 2 weeks to celebrate our anniversary when we arrived it took 30 minutes wait to check in. They said they had upgraded our roo. As ot was our anniversary (lovely we thought) room had a lovely view (block 3) but no kettle, asked and told needed to pay €30 deposit for one even thought superior rooms were advertised as having one, and had to pay €42 for the safe. I complained and got the €42 back for safe and kettle for free. The room was shabby needed updating. The sun lounges were filthy and so was the jacuzzi (we didn't go in it). Theval a cart., beach bar and on site shop were all closed. There was no evening entertainment as advertised due the the hotel loose g their licence. However the worst issue was the food all like warm or Cole and poor quality so we went into magaluff or palma nova to eat at night even though we were all inclusive. On the positive note the animation team were fantastic a big shout out to savana, Gregory and all the others (sorry don't know their names). They worked so hard.

Dear Sharon, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. It is very disheartening to read that despite the efforts of the team to make your anniversary a special moment to remember we were not able to meet your expectations on many aspects of your stay. We take this opportunity to clarify that Barceló Hotel Group is not only committed to complying with safety regulations, but also includes more restrictive standards than those recommended by institutions, such as the definition of capacity in swimming pool areas or the reinforcement of the cleaning and disinfection of sun loungers, therefore we strongly encourage you for a future occasion to point out any imperfection, the team will be swift in addressing any issue that may arise. Moreover, we regret your disappointment with our buffet as we know how important the dining experiences are when staying in a hotel abroad. Our executive chefs strive to ensure a wide array of specialties to please all palates, whilst making sure that the temperature of the trays is always up to standard throughout the service. Nevertheless, we take good note of your remarks and will share them with our team for information and further revision. On a more positive note, we are grateful for your kind words about our entertainment team as they work tirelessly every day to entertain our guests during their stay; we will make sure to pass on your positive comments to them and are sure they will be happy to know their efforts have been appreciated. We hope we can provide you with an improved stay in the future. Kind Regards, Pedro Junquero, Director

We booked this hotel as we had stayed in the hotel across the bay and really enjoyed that.

Where do I begin…

We waited around 30 minutes to check in and then we were told the room wasn’t ready. There was no air con in the reception.

We eventually got the keys for our room when we entered it was clean on first glance. Unfortunately a guest before had left a poo in the toilet. The toilet did not flush and was nearly over flowing. We rang reception to fix the problem, 2 hours past and nothing! We then had to ring again - long story short it took 3 phone calls and then a visit to reception to explain that we needed a working toilet with two children.

The room was clean, the children had a small sofa bed to share and the room was not big at all. We had no view, just some grass and the bins. We booked a superior room?

The hotel had a strange layout, everything was on different floors and blocks. The bar area and restaurant had NO air con. This made it pretty unbearable some nights to sit and have a drink, we ended up retreating back to our room some nights.

The food was okay, pretty standard for all inclusive buffet! My partner really enjoyed it as a meat eater. Kids had a small choice.

Entertainment was poor, and the “shows” did not start till 21:45.

A positive is how close it is to the beach it’s a lovely cove with blue waters and you can climb onto the rocks from hotel and jump into the sea. Lots of fish and good snorkelling opportunities. We were always able to get a sun bed around the pool as well. The pools were nice and clean

The weirdest thing is the taxi situation. One night we wanted to go into Palmanova. We ordered a taxi from reception and it failed to arrive. We waited for an hour. We spoke to other guests who has the same experience, the taxis were refusing to stop at the hotel! So we had to abandon our plans!!!

Overall we were disappointed with our experience at the hotel and will not be returning. Not suitable for families.

Food was very bad other then breakfast. There was no choice if you wanted chip or pizza , paella which where on every day . Staff where the best thing about this hotel very helpful smiling all rhe time . Entertainment with God Lots of things for the little ones keeping them busy. Evening entertainment it was too hot in the bar area to be able to sit and watch no air conditioning in this area whatsoever. They only had one pool open when we went so everybody was trying to use that 1 which wasn't really that good children and adults . There was another pool up at the top but the bar area was not open so nobody used it. This area was appropriate more for children with slides etc But because the bar wasn't open nobody used it. The rooms for clean and comfortable cannot fall them air conditioning was good in the rooms but that was the only place, We tended to go to our room at night taking a drink with us and just sitting there Cos the bar areas were far too warm and very uncomfortable. This hotel is not for the elderly to get anywhere you have to walk up 105 steps or get a taxi. If you were a type of person that just wants to lie in the sun all day and this is an hotel for you because there is nothing else to do.

Room beautiful, clean and sea view (paid extra). Was not ready at 3pm though & we had a double bed despite an email confirmation to say it would be 2 single beds. Air conditioning in room was provided and essential, but none in bars or restaurants.
Sunbeds far too close together and no umbrellas for shade
Tables in restaurant far too close together and seems crowded
Pool floor area not clean
Adults only pool was right next to kids pool and kids play area so had kids in it all the time
Food choice was quite weird. We stayed 3 nights, but if longer I would have had to eat out
Only 1 snack bar and its just burger, hot dogs, chips etc If at the upper level pool, you have to go across a bridge then down 5 floors to get to snack bar
Entertainment staff are BRILLIANT and get everyone involved if they want to, but this means music and voices on microphones from 10:30 with a lull after lunch, so if you want peace then maybe look for somewhere else?
Staff all seem lovely. Bar staff constantly on the go.
Many nationalities here which is lovely to listen to, and staff tried to speak in everyone's native language if they could.
Can't comment on location as we did not leave hotel as were only here 3 nights. 30 mins from airport in pre-booked private transfer for £82 return. However, the hotel is right on the small cliffs/beach so you can walk/jump directly into the sea and its beautifully clean and emerald green! This was the best part for us.
Paddleboarding is advertised but not available?
2 friends had an absolute blast but next time I would choose adults only, more restaurants and somewhere a little more spaced out.
