Hotel Farol is a three star establishment with a four to five star quality experience. This is when we realise that the stars are not given for the right reasons. The rooms are better than most four star hotels and the quality of comfort is up to par with most five star hotels.

We stayed in a very nice large room in front of the iconic Farol da Barra for a very low price considering the quality of the experience. We recommend it highly!

My wife & I have just spent 4 days in Barra at the Hotel Farol.
Wonderful!
Very Covid secure, I have a Covid digital passport so ok, Hellen has had one jab so took a self test in front of the reception staff. All ok.
The staff are all lovely, very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are good, good size, very fresh and airy with a huge bed!
Breakfast is buffet style with lots of choice. Hot bacon & scrambled egg, chilled meats & cheeses, fresh breads, fresh fruit, jams, yoghurts, cereal, milk & juices. And, as it's Portugal, a selection of cakes & pastries 😊
A good selection of restaurants nearby including the Cafe Farol which is a cafe, bar, pool & darts room adjoining the hotel.
The sea views from the rooms are a lovely bonus 👍
We would recommend this hotel to anyone 😊

This hotel is right on the water in the town upscale coastal city Cascais. The hotel is an old mansion converted into a five star hotel. The views were stunning. The dining room views were gorgeous. The lounge area was very nice as well. The decor is modern art with use of different mediums including plastic. It is well incorporated into the ambiance. One thing I found interesting is that the toiletries had very expensive price tags.

When we stayed in Cascais we were hoping to swim in the pool and the Ocean . The weather was unusually windy which brought a chill. The bar area would get loud at night and the wind would howl through our room so it wasn’t as peaceful as we had hoped. The breakfast was opulent and delicious. The concierge Barbara was lovely.

We got superior room and just because of the view. Rooms are big, room was shreshly renovated, clean and a lot of light. The view is amazing - directly to the ocean side with the lighthouse. Sunset on the balcony is great! The only minus is the noise from the street early morning when streets are getting cleaned. Stuff is super friendly. Internet worked well.

Being a little exaggerated there are two types of hotels that meet the previous expectations you have formed seeing photos and those that do not. This is what you say: it's just like I saw it in pictures. Great 3 star hotel but up to quality materials decoration etc to any of 4 stars. All clean and caring. Very attentive staff. Breakfast although it says “little lunch” is more than enough and in a very well decorated and lit room. The rooms with views have a small but very nice terrace. A minute walk from the beach. The typical hotel where you will always return.

Excellent location, good breakfast and beautiful panorama, only the mattress was not pleasant to me. For many days do not recommend, but for a weekend is perfect. I had no problems parking the car, there are always vacancies nearby.

I've written a fair amount of reviews for this site, and so far only been positive about the places we've stayed. Now I understand that the people who write negative reviews aren't just being picky or unlucky - there are bad hotels out there, and this is one of them.

We are 30-year-old career break backpackers, and we're trying to do it properly, saving money by staying in much cheaper hostels and pousadas (Brazilian B&B's). We stayed in one in Rio which was very simple, but clean and secure. In comparison this pousada in Salvador was not nearly as good.

Lets start with the positives; it's right next to the sea, the bed was clean, there was a fridge and TV in the room, the shower was warm, and there's internet downstairs.

Negatives: the bathroom was utterly revolting - we had to keep the door closed at all times because it smelt so bad, the pousada is on a very, very busy road, the air con is incredibly noisy.

We also had a problem with the receptionist/manager. As a girl I found him very sleazy - fine if you're travelling with your boyfriend, but we spoke to another of the guests, and she said he'd rung her at 11.30 at night to find out whether she "was okay". Needless to say, she felt very nervous about this. He said he was "jealous" about her going for dinner with another man. She had to change hotels.

And then we returned from a day trip that we'd booked through him (which was fabulous) and discovered that our mobile phone had been stolen from our room. We can claim on our insurance, but the situation was handled very badly by the guy downstairs. The tourist police in Salvador are fantastic though, and have great English!

We were two couples travelling around northern Portugal and we stayed for two nights in this hotel. our rooms were spacious and clean with a superb view from the balcony. This small hotel is located close to beaches, the beautiful harbour and the lighthouse. It's an excellent place to spend a few days and we hired bikes from the hotel and cycled on the bicycle path along the coast....simply out of this world!!

On a visiting trip to Aveiro region,we ended up asking for vacancy and price in this hotel. We were offered a superior room on the 2nd floor, including balcony overlooking the square with the lighthouse and the sea i.e.the entry into the aveiro laguna where all fishing and other vessels go in and out:great view.Room was spacious, clean and with splendid twin beds.Breakfast was a nice surprise,be it only from 0830h local time.. a little late for people with a busy programme maybe, but very suitable for us.There were hot items-scrambled eggs and bacon-several cols meats and cheese, rolls toast etc..and of course different portugese cakes; not to forget Fresh (!) orange juice, fresh cut fruits, and good coffee.Reception staff very friendly and helpful.Next to the hotel entry is a bar/bistro -operated by the hotel-with terrace offering also small snacks and "tapas".All in all a great experience for a very reasonable price: no doubt one day we'll be back here for beaching ,walking and gastronomy a more than affordable price in local restaurants.

We booked two double rooms and we were allocated 2 rooms on the second floor and each room had a balcony overlooking the square with the lighthouse and a great sea view. Both rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was served from 7.30 to 10.30 and there was a great selection of fresh fruit and lovely freshly squeezed orange juice. There was also hot items-scrambled eggs and bacon-several cold meats and cheese, rolls toast etc... All the staff were very helpful and friendly. All in all a great experience for a very reasonable price and we will be back next year.
