We have just had a week in this hotel skiing as a family and we received fantastic service. Jessica and polly both went the extra mile to make sure our youngest daughter was happy at meal times - making sure she got food she liked. A massive thank you to them both for their fantastic efforts.
Hotel very comfortable, food good and no queueing for meals as others have suggested. Friendly bar staff and a hot tub for fun after a day on the slopes. It was all covered. Thanks for a lovely stay.
My only negative comment would be it would be nice to have your towels changed during a weeks stay.
Rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds comfortable. Like most places in the Alps we had to sleep with the window open to let the fresh mountain air circulate freely. There is a jacuzzi for apres ski, and we chilled warmly round the fire pits on the terrace in the evening.
There’s a great bar with friendly and obliging staff, and we particularly enjoyed breakfast, with a great selection of patisserie, fresh fruit and full cooked breakfast.
Thank you to everyone at Hotel Mottaret for giving us an excellent trip, next time we will go Demi pension and enjoy more from the restaurant.
We had originally booked this hotel Mottaret in particular because of the good reviews and for a second time were not disappointed. The atmosphere in the hotel is welcoming, comfortable, friendly, warm.
From when we arrived with our 2 small children we were sat down with a hot wine and hot chocolates whilst our luggage taken to the room for us and then accompanied up when ready and my husband parked the car.
The room was clean and a good size for our family. Our cleaning lady was very friendly.
The food was excellent every morning and night. Our Christmas day meal was just what we needed after a long day on the slopes even if the service was a bit haphazard in the evenings.
Our children were thrilled by their presents given by santa on Christmas day, a really lovely touch from the hotel and it's management.
Overall then I would definitely come back and stay at Hotel le Mottaret, thank you to the manager Katy and her great team for making our stay as magical as it could be.
The things that made us want to return were sadly missing on our return visit this February (2020). The kids loved that fact that they could pick up a muffin/brownie from the landings/lobby in our previous visit, this was such a good feature and an easy way to keep the kids happy ergo us happy - but was sadly lacking for teh majority of our visit. Also, the breakfast quality had slipped e.g. the coffee machine was not working most mornings, percolated coffee tepid, empty trays where there should have been bacon, sausages, etc. But worst of all no waffle/egg guy!! These were the main reasons why we wanted to come back! Obviously, these points are not horrendous, and some will find tedious but like I say these are the reasons we decided to go back.
On the plus side the bar staff were excellent, very friendly and professional, as were the reception staff, overall we enjoyed our time there but will probably look for somewhere else next year. But I would definitely say they need to pay more attention to detail with the small perks as mentioned above to temp families back.
Location is perfect, from the front of the hotel you have a 1 minute easy run straight down to centre of Mottaret/tourist office/lift pass office/ski school meeting points. This slope also has a gentle sledging area, or you could choose to do the night time sledging on Tuesday evening if feeling more adventurous. It's also the run where the kids torchlit run descends on Wednesdays. It was pretty easy to walk back up to the hotel, either by steps or by slope but you could take the Chalets lift if preferred. Being a little higher in Mottaret (having stayed many times in Meribel), also meant much quicker access to the 3 valleys with little to no queues.
The hotel is warm and welcoming, with good sized rooms, comfortable beds, powerful hot showers and fabulous views, all well taken care of with great housekeeping staff. We enjoyed the newly built spa and the hot tub out front, sitting by the fire enjoying Hugo's cocktails, and the restaurant (the all inclusive package is definitely excellent value for money).
The food is outstanding, we especially appreciated the great lengths gone to for both the French Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve and the British Christmas dinner (including crackers) on Christmas Day. Santa made a special visit with gifts for all children, not just any gift...each child had been very carefully considered. The chefs sought feedback and were eager to please, which they did every day.
Best of all are all of the staff, without exception, nothing is too much trouble and they are incredibly welcoming, hard working and professional (even in supporting myself with a medical emergency). I generally have a rule of not returning with a view to always trying somewhere new but, for this place, I would make an exception, this hotel is difficult to beat.
Thank you Katie and the whole team for everything.
It was nice to see some familiar faces in the hotel and the staff work hard to please guests and always with a smile. The manageress and reception staff are very visible and deal with issues efficiently and in a reasonable manner despite some very rude guests witnessed during our stay.
Our room was well appointed and warm. It's worth paying a little extra for the recently added rooms but with past experience all rooms are fine.
Food in the restaurant is of a good standard though be aware that breakfast can be a bit frantic. We stayed at a time when there was a large group of families all together who grabbed everything they could, left the place in a state and were actually quite rude to some of the staff. Nothing the hotel can do about the class of guest and its the first time I've encountered this here. Usually the guests are very classy.
The unlimited use of the spa was a lovely addition. It was quite busy once everyone had returned from skiing, but quietened into early evening. You can book a private slot for the outdoor hot tub after 6pm, and this worked fine. This can just be arranged whilst there.
I had a room in the older part of the hotel, overlooking the road. Whilst it was a bit tired, the shower and storage space was excellent.
Location was perfect. It was just over a single road to join a green run which took you to all of the lifts in Mottaret. From here you can easily access Meribel (via another easy green), Courchevel etc.
A short walk from the hotel there is the free bus which runs fairly frequently to Meribel, which I used on a couple of evenings.
It is also only a 5 min walk to get to a number of restaurants in Mottaret. All of the ones I went to were good. Because of the hotels location being uphill, and almost ski in/ski out, good footwear is needed, even in the evening.
I booked my ski hire and pass through the hotel. Both the pass and voucher for hire were available at check in. The ski hire shop is right next door which is a big bonus. They were very efficient and were willing to swap a pair of boots the following day.
The breakfast choice was good with cold and hot food. There is the option when only on bed and breakfast to pay extra for the evening buffet. I did this one evening, and it was reasonable. Everything I had was nice, but I have had hotel buffets with more choice.
Cocktails were great!
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend for exploring the 3 Valleys.
Our room was large with plenty of storage for all our ski clobber and also had a good sized balcony. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a large walk in shower.
Meals were taken In the restaurant downstairs. Breakfast included all the normal fair and apart from issues with the coffee machine, ticked all the boxes. The evening meal was buffet style, with a multitude of options for all tastes, including vegetarian and all well prepared and served. As a consequence, we have come home considerably heavier.
The slopes are a stone’s throw away, with easy access to the nursery slopes.
We would happily return to Le Mottaret and would recommend this hotel to family and friends.
