While the Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort is lauded for its prime location near dining options and offers a romantic setting, some travelers question its value, pointing out the high costs relative to room quality and facility standards. Opinions on service and amenities are mixed—staff friendliness contrasts with reports of inconsistency and communication issues, and while the lush gardens and pools are highlights, some aspects of the resort seem dated.
However, guests consistently praise the resort for its cleanliness and charming atmosphere.

We were able to spend 6 days in this hotel in July and were very satisfied. The hotel is well located for the main road: very close, about 5 minutes walk, but far enough away to be a bit out of the way. The hotel couldn't be closer to the beach which is a very good point. The rooms are spacious and pleasant, and have all the necessary comfort. The hotel is located in a magnificent setting and lush vegetation that the employees take care to maintain every day. We came during the rainy season, and we appreciated the fact that umbrellas were provided, this was very useful to us. We found that the employees were very responsive to the slightest problem. For example, a plank of a small bridge had broken due to humidity when we were going to have breakfast. When we returned, it had already been replaced. The restaurant is very expensive compared to the prices of restaurants on the rest of the island, but given that the hotel is very close to other restaurants this does not pose a real problem. Toilets are located near the swimming pools, which avoids going back and forth to the rooms. The swimming pools are both very good. The breakfast is also very good and offers a wide choice of products. The staff is very kind. The beach is also very beautiful and, against all expectations, almost empty. We had a great time.

Very beautifully located hotel with huge tropical gardens, 2 pools, beach and bar-restaurant. The cabanas, small bungalows with palm leaf roofs and large bedrooms, are the best and most comfortable way to stay here. Cleanliness is exemplary, air conditioning in the room is quiet (but the compressor outside can be a bit annoying if you want to sit quietly on the terrace), ceiling fan inaudible. The breakfast is gigantic, almost a feast. If you don't find anything there, there's no help for you. Theme evenings, which take place twice a week, are recommended, especially because of the large Thai buffets. The Cenvaree spa, which can be found in all higher-class Centara hotels, is of the usual high quality, the treatments and the staff are excellent.
The staff are the hotel's greatest asset. Everyone is extremely friendly and attentive, you feel like you're part of a big family. After 3 days, the guys in the restaurant knew my room number by heart, knew what I liked to drink and even reserved my favorite table for a theme night without asking, just because I casually mentioned that I was coming in a conversation days before. A great surprise that has never happened to me anywhere else.
Since a certain amount of wear and tear and aging is slowly becoming visible (the outdoor shower in the Cabbana has a completely corroded head and most of the holes are blocked, the protective cover over the outdoor bathtub is so rusty that it can no longer be opened), 4 stars would have been appropriate, but these are (still) minor things. The hotel cannot be held responsible for other characteristics of the destination, for example that the beach is so shallow that proper swimming is only possible very far out. Or that there are no paths lit away from the main road in the village, so that flashlights are necessary in the evening if you want to leave the complex.

Super beautiful complex with lots of trees, which is noticeable by the large variety of birds. Nothing is missing, fitness room with spinning bike, spa, massage, beach bar, restaurant, kids entertainment, kids buffet and much more.
Food and hygiene good.
Those who do not change linen in the room receive drink vouchers worth 150 BHT.
Staff is friendly, the reception staff Jail and Min are extremely warm and helpful.
Guests are mixed.
Suggestions for improvement: The hand/bath towels are frayed, greyish and not at all suitable. Pool loungers are reserved before breakfast. A note here at check-in or in the house rules or directly at the pool could be very useful.
Just a bit old, but a unique price-performance ratio.

If you like the joie de vivre of many Russians and Chinese, this is the place for you - an Eldorado. Even the drinks menu has a Cyrillic translation.
The complex itself is getting old and in many areas seems neglected and in need of maintenance. The complex doesn't really deserve that.
The beach is very small and yet the staff still don't manage to keep it clean.
Screws and nails keep sticking out of the wooden floorboards, which makes walking barefoot difficult and dangerous.
There aren't enough beach loungers for all guests, as the bad habit of reserving towels also exists here. Guests often occupy two loungers at the same time, one in the sun and one in the shade. If you come at breakfast time, you'll usually see all the loungers occupied, but only with towels and not with guests. The hotel staff point out on a notice that this isn't possible, but they don't care at all.
The breakfast was OK. Unfortunately, after half-time, there aren't many more items. The service wasn't particularly attentive. We sometimes had to find cutlery and cups ourselves.
The prices in the bar are relatively high outside of happy hour and are nowhere near those of the restaurants outside the resort.

This hotel was my favorite beach hotel on Koh Chang for over ten years... Unfortunately, over the years, far too little has been invested in maintenance and repairs, so the maintenance backlog is noticeable everywhere.
- The building structure (roofs) of the cabanas is damaged - All the cushions on the beach loungers are worn out. - The beach towels come in three qualities, miserable, holey and rags. - The bed linen/room towels are consistently checked and in need of replacement. - The breakfast buffet has been reduced over the years. This year the leftover bread on offer was of a quality that was no longer tolerable. The baguette was solid like "concrete" and the other types of bread fell apart after being cut.
It hurts my heart to have to write such a review, it is a very nice facility. However, if I don't read about significant improvements in recent reviews, I will refrain from booking in the future.

We had a very disappointing stay at Centara. While our bungalow offered a nice view, the interior was very dark, small, and outdated. The sanitary facilities were particularly problematic—when someone in the adjacent room used the toilet, their waste would flow into ours. This is completely unacceptable.
Additionally, we had disruptive neighbors who partied loudly in the middle of the night. Despite the disturbance, no night guard or staff intervened to restore order. To make matters worse, the phone in our bungalow didn’t work due to a lack of signal, so we were unable to call reception. This issue was reported but not fixed the following day. On the next night, when the noise from the neighbors continued, we tried contacting reception via the app. Unfortunately, we only received a response the next morning, hours after the problem had occurred. There was no one available to assist during the night, leaving us completely unsupported.
The resort also suffers from other issues. By early morning, most sunbeds were already reserved with towels, and no staff enforced any rules to prevent this. There were clearly too few sunbeds available, and the Wi-Fi in the sunbed area was unreliable.
Overall, the resort is in dire need of refurbishment and more customer-oriented staff at the front desk to address guest concerns. However, we would like to highlight the friendliness of the restaurant staff, who did their best and are not to blame for the many shortcomings of this property. We left after 3 nights instead of the 7 we had booked.
We would not recommend staying here.

Response from CENTARA KOH CHANG, General Manager at Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort
Responded 11 Dec 2024
Dear Fearless91877, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort. I am deeply sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations and for the challenges you faced during your time with us. Please allow me to address your concerns. First and foremost, I sincerely apologize for the issue with the sanitary facilities in your bungalow. This is an unacceptable oversight, and I have already instructed our maintenance team to investigate and resolve this matter immediately to prevent future occurrences. I am also sorry for the noise disturbances from neighboring guests and the lack of timely support from our team. Your concerns about the non-functioning phone and the delayed responses via our app highlight gaps in our service, and we are reviewing our procedures to ensure our guests feel supported at all times, especially during the night. The issue of sunbed reservations and Wi-Fi connectivity in the public areas has also been noted. We are implementing measures to improve both availability and internet reliability for all our guests. On a positive note, I am pleased to hear that our restaurant team provided friendly and professional service. They will be commended for their efforts. Your feedback underscores areas where we must improve, and I take it very seriously. We are committed to addressing these issues as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the guest experience. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to demonstrate the improvements we are making. As on separate e-mail, we are proceeding on refund based on your unused nights. If there is anything more I can do to assist you or if you would like to discuss your experience further. Warm regards, Gorn Puangkhao General Manager

The Centara Ko Chang is a beautiful hotel, with a paradisiacal garden, a very beautiful beach, and a good breakfast buffet. The staff were all very attentive, friendly, and super nice to us. You couldn't get better service. Thank you to each and every one of them. Unfortunately, even the expensive cabana bungalows are very shabby. There was mold in every corner of the bathroom. The bathtub was very old and scratched, and towels and bedsheets were only available in an unpleasant-smelling gray that used to be white, and were partially torn. The bathtub and/or shower should only be accessed with great caution by those "over 60". There were also several tripping hazards in the bathroom itself. We are writing down these shortcomings here so that the management of the Centara will reconsider bringing such an essentially beautiful hotel back to a better standard. So... spend money and bring the shabby bungalows up to date. We have come to terms with the situation, but we would only come back after a renovation. Please don't let this beautiful hotel continue to rot. Kind regards, Heike and Jochen from Germany

Koh Chang was a wonderful surprise for us. We have been several times in Thailand, but this time we want to spend our holidays in a quiet, non-massive tourist location, in contact with nature and locals. We found everything in here and that's why we continuos to choose some spots in Thailand, like this island, as a safe and beautiful place to spend our relaxing days.
Hotel Centara Tropicana is well located, the grounds are well-kept (congratulations to the team) it feels like you are in a botanic garden. The room is comfortable. The bar it's ok, we had a couple of happy hour drinks, only thing to mention to the team is avoid put so much ice in some cocktails it spoils the flavour. The SPA was a wonderful experience. I had the Traditional Treatment Stretch and Press with Therapist Litik, and she was very professional with a warm welcome, very much focus on her duty.
Two things to mention as downs side's: the pool/beach towels, they are full of stains and look very old. And the breakfast for some Europeans was very limited. We hope that the management improve in the menu.

We stayed at the resort for four nights. Unfortunately, I mistakenly booked a superior room, but we were able to upgrade to a garden-view cabana. The cabana was a decent size with nice decor; however, the bathroom was very outdated and in urgent need of renovation—much like the rest of the resort. The seal around the bathtub was moldy, and while the towels and bed linens were of good quality, service was inconsistent. On our last day, we were provided only two bath towels (despite there being three of us), with no bath mat or hand towels. The toiletries, however, were of good quality. The neglect and lack of care throughout the property are evident, which is disappointing because the garden is stunning, and it’s clear the resort must have been amazing at one time. Breakfast was underwhelming, so we only tried it once. As for the food, we ordered from the back pool and dined twice at the main restaurant. The food was good, and the restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. However, some tablecloths were worn, with visible holes and wrinkles, including the one brought to the back pool. Beach towels were often unavailable by noon, leaving us with dirty sunbed mats. The towels at the back pool were old and frayed, and many floorboards were dangerously damaged, posing a safety risk. On December 24th, there was no staff at the back pool, no towels, and the pool itself was dirty. On that day we went to Santhiya and used their pool. The front office staff appeared inexperienced, and their English was limited. After two days, I went to pay for the room upgrade and some bills at reception, but the staff member didn’t understand what I was asking and only managed to process the restaurant charges. At check-out, we were charged for a Chang beer we never consumed—only a Sprite—but we were still forced to pay. This was our 13th trip to Thailand, and sadly, it’s the first time I’ve felt compelled to write a negative review. While the resort has potential, the lack of maintenance and poor service make it impossible to recommend. Stay away!

Normal Thai four on the first line. Nice area - garden, ponds, fish, bridges)) Two swimming pools, I especially liked the one with hydromassage areas, it’s a pity not all of them worked) The beach is good because numerous palm trees create natural shade, no need to fight for places under umbrellas)). The first days were shocked by the sea tides, then we adapted, and the tides began to tide at night, in general, the sea was happy))) Everything was fine in the rooms, nice interior, large, comfortable balconies, cleaning daily. The breakfasts are top-notch, and a weak one at that. The pastries are very meager, the selection of fruits is also not so great; however, no one leaves hungry)))..
