Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My fiance, his mom and i stayed at the Scottish Inn August 19-20. The location was great. Skyline Cavern and the entrance to Skyline Drive was only a 2 minute drive away. Shenandoah River was only about 10 miles from Front Royal. The price was great for a double room with a microwave, fridge and free cable. Gas stations and 7-11 in walking distance, along with a great diner, a frozen yogurt/burger joint, and the Village Idiot restaurant across the street. The staff was also extremely friendly... The only problems were that the beds squeaked a little, and the sink was clogged. Other than that, we had a great time and this inn was a great choice for us.

This place is okay if you need a place to stay in Front Royal, but beware. I have worked in the homeless ministry in Front Royal, and many displaced people live at this hotel. Hikers from the Appalachian Trail also stay there -- so just beware of your valuables, etc. Truthfully I can't recommend any good places to stay in Front Royal except the Hampton Inn at the other end of town - which will be more expensive, of course. If I were looking for a place to stay with my family, I would try Flint Hill or Winchester or Warrenton..

My girlfriend and I recently spent an unplanned night at the Scottish Inn due to a major snowstorm that forced us out of our campsites in Shenandoah. This Scottish Inn is definitely a no-frills location, but it is sufficient. Our room did have a power chemical smell from the cleaning solutions used, but for a single night day was not problematic.

Contrary to the postings of others, I saw nothing wrong with staying in "this part of town", and as someone who is an AT hiker, I assure you that neither I nor anyone else in my party has any interest in anyone else s valuables.

Heading into this location with the correct assumptions about what you will get will make for a decent night's stay. And having grown up in New England, I am still amazed that there are places you get get a room for less than $50 a night!

I was in the process of renting a room at this hotel. I mentioned that I had a service animal. The manager stopped. Shoved my id and credit card back through the window. He told me no pets. When I explained he is not a pet but a registered service dog, they guy told me company policy only allows 5 service animals on the property and they already had that. I tried to tell him what the ADA law is on it and he he now says they do not have anymore rooms available. This was labor day weekend and it was extremely smoky outside due to a fire. Now in a town of booked motels I was being refused a room for having a disability that requires a service dog to be with me. To make matters worse, the room he was going to rent me was a handicap access room.

When we pulled into the parking lot my sister wanted to leave. There were 3 young guys that looked like drug dealers laying on the stairs to the second floor, another guy was sleeping in a car. The door to our room only had one lock on it. The dead bolt had been remove and paper was stuffed in the hole where the dead bolt use to be. We put a chair under the door knob and stacked our luggage in front of the door to help secure it. Smelt really bad. My sister refuse to shower there. We left the next morning before daylight all the lights in the parking lot and corridors had been turn off. It was pitch black outside our door. If you value your safety go some where else to stay.

Too many section 8 people live there. I stayed here and there was noise outside. Me being an investigator I ask questions I do not assume anything. So I asked the 21 year old. I said hey brother you on vacation or you live here. He was a white kid and he said I live here and I lived here all my life. He was a nice guy but made a lot of noise. There were several others there that also made a lot of noise. The price was 45 Bucks it was cheap and 5 bucks more for my dog. It was REALLY close to the start of the drive. Coming into town I needed directions. A local gave them to me and advised that was not a good part of town. Being a retired cop I do not scare at all. But the damm noise, the locals told me to stay at the Quality inn and spent 80 bucks a night instead of 45. The section 8 people were yelling back and forth to others on the porch at night. At midnight it did get quiet, but I like to sleep earlier than that.

We weren't expecting a high-end hotel for $55 a night, so we were pleasantly surprised that the room was a good size, clean and comfortable and had a mini fridge. We called ahead to make sure pets were allowed at the time of our stay and were glad to find that the pet fee was only $10 a night per pet. To be realistic, the bathrooms are a bit dated and water pressure isn't so great in the shower, but that is to be expected in an older building. There is a 7-11 nearby and gas station, also 24 hour grocery store and pharmacy is a couple of blocks away (Martins). Only a couple of minutes away from the park.

This hotel was filthy! Shower was dirty, toilet seat was broken and toilet dirty. Had to ask for towels and then go get them. Stair to second floor were unsafe and rusted. Light did not work when I arrived. Carpets dirty, Bed comforter had something undescribable all over it. White guest towels were brown. And.............I saved the best for last. The sheets had a large blood stain on them. I have asked for my money back but they are not cooperating. I am going to report this to the local chamber of commerce as well as the better business bureau!

A non-descript two-story motel, at the edge of the city and very close to the entrance of the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah valley. The building is older but not rundown. The room was clean, large, and comfortable with TV, refrigerator and microwave but no coffee :-( For the price, less than $50.00, it proved a very good value.
