I was very impressed with your beautifully maintained and comfortably heartwarming establishment when I had the privilege and honor to stay with you in the house next door on a seasonally sublime night in June. Aside from being served a wonderfully spectacular and pallet-satisfying breakfast, visiting briefly with the host's adorably sweet monster-sized pet, and delighting over experiencing the fabulously quintessential and enchanting decor, I only wished I could have stayed longer to explore your fair town more and the different surrounding scenic sites of interest in that part of Virginia, The State that is for Lovers.

I am glad to finally getting around to writing you a little review to mildly explain how truly nice it was to meet Joanie, her husband, and Kathy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for having me as your guest, Joanie. I really appreciated your genuinely warm and friendly hospitality, exemplarily fine and tasty breakfast, and the fact that Christina Vakas was thoughtfully kind enough to introduce me to you and your lovely homes. I hope to see you again in 2024, so I'm expecting you to stay healthy, happy, and Blessed.

I initially ran across this wonderful place while I was through hiking the Appalachian Trail. Joanne picked us up at the trail head and took us in like family. I was so impressed with my first experience that I told my wife we had to go there this fall to see the leaves, and so she could experience this great bed-and-breakfast . Joan and Cathy Exceeded my expectations with their incredible hospitality. They give you a gourmet made to order breakfast, and make great conversationalist and have a great knowledge of the local area. I highly recommend anybody that is considering visiting the Shenandoah’s, or the wonderful caverns and wineries that are in this area consider this as a must stay place.

We had such a great time here during our two day stay - wish we could have stayed longer! Joan and Kathy are generous, friendly hosts who did everything they could to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Breakfast was simply amazing - lovely, ripe fruit, freshly baked pastries and excellent omelette, pancakes, French toast, etc. We will definitely be back!

It was our first time at Woodward House but it felt like coming home. Joan and Cathy are warm and wonderful. We so enjoyed spending time with them. The entire house is covered in art, much of it by local artists. Around every corner is another beautiful, elegant, or quirky piece. We loved it all! The room was beautiful and comfortable and homey. There were lots of little touches like homemade cookies in the room and bowls of fruit and chocolate in the common area. We visited with Joan in the pub and enjoyed the good local beer that they have on tap. Later that evening we relaxed on the veranda with a glass of wine while the stars came out. The next morning, the breakfast was phenomenal. Come hungry! You will definitely not need lunch that day. Our only regret is that we did not book a longer stay. But we will be back!

This was our first stay at a Bed & Breakfast and we’re so glad it was here! Our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Homemade cookies, coffee maker, tea bags, waters and a mini refrigerator in the bedroom were an added bonus. The owners were super friendly as well as the “house” dog, Lucky! Breakfast was delicious. Fresh fruit, warm banana muffin, oatmeal….and then the breakfast option you chose from the menu the night before! The breakfast was like you were eating at a five star restaurant. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

I had the good fortune to secure a room here for one night while passing through Front Royal solo. I was immediately greeted and made to feel welcome by Joan. After I returned from grabbing a quick burger across the street, I met her sister Kathy and she served me a complimentary beer at the little bar in house. We sat up and talked for over an hour as she shared a history of the property before I retired. My room was “Kelly’s Nest” and it was quite comfortable with fresh baked cookies, water, and snacks waiting for me on the bureau. The bed was relaxing and I had a good night of sleep. I was given a menu before bed which I left with my breakfast order outside of my door for the next morning. Breakfast was substantial and delicious. I look forward to returning and hope I can bring my wife next time. A dear and absolutely delightful inn. Thank you, ladies!

I stayed here with my Dad at the end of a three week road trip, it was a last minute Friday night stop after having driven from Asheville via Skyline Ridge. What a fantastic decision!! Hosts Joan and Kathy could not have been more welcoming or friendly, they are genuinely nice people who cook an absolutely enormous and tasty breakfast! The house and rooms are adorable and clean, with private bathrooms, and the hosts are most generous at their built in bar with beer, wine, and story-telling flowing! I would come back again in a heartbeat, a very enjoyable end to our trip en route back to NYC. Thank you ladies!!

My husband and I were visiting Shenandoah National Park and found this homey B&B very close to the entrance. We stayed in a cozy cabin that was full of goodies - a bottle of Pinot Grigio, homemade cookies and cake, lots of snacks and every toiletry imaginable in the bathroom. Lots of fluffy, soft towels, really comfortable bed with huge pillows, pretty sheets and soft blankets. Sweet fireplace too! Lots of interesting artwork, statuary and animals wandering around the property - chickens, their big pup and even a baby peacock. The two highlights though were the very helpful and kind proprietors, Joan and Cathy, and the FABULOUS breakfast! Gorgeous fruit platters, home baked muffins and out of this world omelettes!! Fluffy fresh eggs from their own chickens. Mine was loaded with ham and cheese (I took half home with me) and my husbands overflowed with fresh vegetables (he said he felt like he was eating a garden🌞) with tasty breakfast potatoes. It was a really lovely experience -Would go back in a minute!

We travel quite a bit and have relied on trip advisor alot in the past. We were really disappointed this time as the reviews do not really describe the b&b correctly at all. The area is so sketchy we were afraid to leave our car anywhere near this place. The whole town looks dilapidated and way way way past it’s prime. I don’t think there was one restaurant within walking distance much less one place I would actually feel comfortable to eat at. We canceled our reservation as our car couldn’t even get up the steep driveway without scraping. The exterior of the B&B presented very poorly.

Woodward House on Manor Grade is at the top of our list for exceptionally excellent B&B visits. We have been in the B&B business ourselves and tend to be somewhat critical but Woodward House on Manor Grade does everything right and serves as an example of the best in the industry. The warm hospitality of the Inn owners and personnel, the interestingly quirky decor full of art and beautiful artifacts and the very comfortable, spotless rooms with great matresses all add up to a five star B&B experience. It does not get any better than Woodward House on Manor Grade.

Which room(s) are on the back (quieter) side of the house?

Like other responders, I can't remember which rooms are at the back of the property. That said, it is very quiet. On my first visit there it was warm enough to sit out on the porch in the evening, and that's also at the back - and I don't remember any great amount of noise.
