Detailed Reviews
If you're looking for a resort full of things to do and planned activities for the kids, this is not your resort. This resort is tucked up in the mountains off of narrow roads. The views are beautiful. Yes, the accommodations are "dated" but who changes their decor every couple of years? The place is clean, fully equipped and has everything you need. We had cookie sheets and a pizza pan which is a lot more than most resorts offer. We stayed in a chalet and had service for 12.
I wish I had brought my own pillows because theirs were flat. one pillow wasn't enough and two was too much. But the bottom line is, I would definitely come back to this place. If you ski or do motorcross this place is for you. If you golf you would love this place. If you have small children, probably not as much. We stayed during Covid-19 just allowing places to open and the playgrounds everywhere were closed. So my grandchildren were a bit disappointed and they are too young to do some of the grown up activities. The zip lines were closed too for the adults as well as summer tubing. Still we have a great time, the accommodations were wonderful. We went for many walks and saw a lot of deer. If you're looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this IS your place!

Clean and well-taken care of. The beds are really comfortable but the appliances are outdated. We visited during COVID so most of everything in the area was closed. No internet in the units but the library about 1 mile down the road has free access even when it is not open. We wanted to do the zipline and the waterless tubing but they were also closed. Nice mountain bike trails.

We stayed at the pines chalet #94 3-bedroom private chalet. We liked that it was pet friendly (for a fee of $150 for 2 large dogs). Location was pretty, grounds well kept up , and service was great . Minor things like patio door lock seemed broke , knives could use replacing as the handles were loose , and pizza cutter wheel loose . We liked that we had a stock of free firewood for indoor fireplace, and the place was very roomy. The only thing was confusing was that in the description it mentioned about amenities at Bryce Mountain Resort . Part was true such as ski hill (in summer they had bike trials and $8 scenic rides) but there was also something about the pool . This was false. You need to be a member of the Bryce Mountain Resort to have access (this pool was closer to our chalet) . The pines only has use of the outdoor pool located at the Pines office which is only open til 5pm. This pool was a about 3 miles away. We enjoyed our stay . Had 6 adults and 2 dogs - plenty of room . Very quiet. Many hilly narrow roads to drive , so if you fear the narrow roads with twists and turns , this might not be for you. We went to Laury caves , and some other attractions there. Loved the Smileys Kustard not far from our chalet. Also visited some winery’s and brewery’s and spent time at Lake Laura as well as hiking some at Shenadoa National Forest.

The Pines is located at a remote mountain region of Virginia. It is far away from civilization. Air is fresh and clean. Condo is in good size and clean. There is no clubhouse. The office only open M- F 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The agents are friendly and helpful. Other than business hours, you need to leave message from you phone and waiting for return call to Office hours. The information sheet said guests can pay fee for internet service. But no instruction at all. We check in on Saturday and made call for the services of TV and Internet. We got call back on Monday.
Public Library is the only place you can access internet. It is a great places if you want to get a quiet week to write your novel, or write up your research projects. golf course is in front of your condo. You pay fee to play golf. Good place for golfers.
There is no night life for young generation. It depends on what your objective for the stay.

The units are compact but very functional; galley kitchen is great for one cook at a time. Super location in the middle of the Valley w/15-20 min ride to the turnpike – looking forward to the day when I will most definitely return to The Pines. (Pool is great to come back to after a day of touring.)
July 2020, spent a fabulous week using The Pines as a basecamp and toured up and down the spectacular Shenandoah Valley. Summer must be considered “off season” in this spectacular location (all the better!). Located with the Mt. Jackson ski resort, there is too much to see in a week. The Pines management is nothing less the outstanding. (During our stay a unit close to us had anomalous water break (requiring major repairs); even though we were not aware of this - we were provided a new condominium immediately to avoid any issues with the repairs).

This resort is very nice. The kitchen is well appointed for cooking. The bed room is large and the beds are very comfortable. Wi-Fi is free and the cable tv has many channels. There are several steps to most units but they are manageable. The grounds are beautiful. We stayed on the slope side and there are three ski slopes. We ere there in off season and they have converted the ski slopes in to a bike park and downhill course. We enjoyed watching all the bikers maneuver this course. Dogs are welcome for a fee of $100 per week. Our dog enjoyed the dog park that they provide. It is a short walk from the units. It is kept very clean. There are restaurants on site and a grocery store within a few miles. There is a lot to do and see in the area but because we had our dog with us we stayed at the resort.
Only downfall of this resort is there is no towel exchange. Unless you go to another building to wash your own towels you have to use the allotted towels the whole week. We were told by housekeeping if we wanted clean towels it would be $1.00 per towel.

We wanted to get-away for a week, just to relax and get a change of scenery. We chose The Pines, because it was in a quiet area, within an easy drive, and, unlike most accommodations, allowed pets.
The unit we stayed in was huge. It was just the 2 of us, but it was great, having the extra space.
Our unit was very clean, and incredibly stocked with anything we needed, to enjoy our meals next to the roaring fire. There was also a sauna in our unit, which I especially enjoyed.
The entire stay was a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
We look forward to visiting here, again.

There’s good and bad here. If you’re looking for quiet and a place to get away from things and enjoy nature and some peace this is it.
The chalet was nice. Had tons of room and the kitchen, although small, was fully stocked with anything you could need. We also liked that we could bring our dogs for small fee, way cheaper than boarding and they had a great time too.
The golf course was nice, but charging full price for aerated greens and no warning is not cool. At least mention it or discount the price.
The bad: uncomfortable is the best Word to describe the furniture. Not just some of it. All of jt.
Our unit had 5 beds and a futon. These are the worst mattresses I’ve ever slept on. Woke up every morning with back pain that I’ve never felt before. I slept on every bed and the futon hoping for some relief, didn’t happen.
The furniture in the living room is just as uncomfortable. The cushions are worn out and have no support. We ended sitting on the futon in the basement more than anywhere because the sofa, chair, and loveseat (all same style) were awful.
I wouldn’t come back here unless there were renovated with updated furniture and beds. We ended up leaving before our vacation was over because we just couldn’t spend another night on those beds.

The resort is set in beautiful country, and the grounds appear well-kept. If the interior of the buildings had been as lovely and well- maintained, it could have been a pleasant stay regardless of the fact that practically everything within a 10 minute drive was closed or on a limited schedule.
It is difficult to guess if the lack of restaurants, attractions, etc. was due to the current health crisis or that the resort is structured around the ski season. At any rate, the restaurant on site was not open during any day. It was supposed to be open on the weekends, but we were long gone by then.
The condo itself was dated and very uncomfortable. We literally could not sit comfortably in the living room, so the fireplace went unused. All in all, it is considerably below the quality that I have experienced and have come to expect from RCI.

We stayed at the Pines at Bryce Resort one week after the ski season ended. The resort was pretty empty and closed down, which was fine by us as we were looking for peace and solitude. In my opinion, the best thing about the Pines is that they are pet friendly-different than most RCI resorts. Nice dog park and lots of poop bag stations all over the resort. Wonderful!
The 1 bedroom unit we stayed in was a bit underwhelming. Furniture was dated and a bit uncomfortable, but not unbearable. Galley style kitchen is the 'hallway' that connects the bedroom to the living room area, so I would think if you have more than 2 people staying there, it would be cramped and hard to maneuver around. The kitchen did, however, have everything we needed to cook meals each day...pots, pans, utensils, complete dining sets, etc. Good thing...there really are no restaurants nearby that are open in March.

We do love our pets here at Bryce Resort and are glad you enjoyed the dog park. The resort restaurant kitchen underwent renovation when you were visiting which did significantly impact dining options. We hope that you come back to visit again and if you do, check out our Bryce Mountain Escapes website for additional dining options, including the incredible RHouse, located right near the entrance of the resort. They are reservation only but it is definitely worth planning ahead!

#1 Yes, the temperature is pleasant at the end of May.
#2 No , you cannot permit dog swimming in pool.
#3 There is a Lake nearby so this is a possible swimming area.
#4 I-80 is heavy with large trucks so be prepared.
#5 They have a small pool at the rear of check-in but to use the indoor pool there is a charge since this belongs to another resort.
It all depends on your rental location. I know there are many around the area. Ours was just a few minutes walk from there. The resort would probably be able to answer more precisely.
