Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa garners mixed reviews, with many guests applauding its prime location near skiing spots and its rustic charm. However, concerns about the aging property and the need for updates are a recurring theme. While the spacious rooms with comfortable beds are a highlight, issues with privacy, security, and occasional lapses in cleanliness have been noted.
The amenities, including a spa and pool, are appreciated when available, but some guests have encountered closures. Service quality varies, with instances of both commendable staff interactions and frustrating service shortcomings. Value for money remains a contentious point among visitors, who expect more for their expenditure.

Detailed Reviews
I book almost all my lodgings, regardless of location or cost, in-house rather than online. I've found that although there's some extra cost, it repays sometimes with very real upgrades, and almost always provides some personal information that online bookings omit. My experience with Stoweflake's front desk person was very positive, and I was assured that the fitness center was open, and that a microwave was available for my early breakfast and evening take-out. The room's price was mid-level- very reasonable for the convenience to restaurants, and full access to the onsite fitness center. I reserved a king deluxe room for 3 nights mid-week
The bathroom was clean, well appointed with nice towels, large sink/counter and a shower that was a full flow, soothing and quite nice after a day at the mountain in -5F (or so) wind chill. If you want to make your own bed (as I do, my military habits endure), let then know ahead. The room heating was quiet & effective and the fireplace gave off good warming for additional recovery from the day's chill. I did a full workout in fitness club with excellent equipment.
I had three good nights' sleep in a quiet, clean, and comfortable room at a good price. I'll be booking again for sure.

What the Stoweflake is not: Brand new and extremely modern.
What the Stoweflake is: A comfortable spot to stay in Stowe that is wonderfully located in town with an amazing staff.
We booked a room over several nights for the 2024 total solar eclipse. We were pretty skeptical of the awaiting experience given several of the other reviews on this site, but were pleasantly surprised. Our king room was comfortable for sleeping, but also had a fireplace, desk to work at, table for two to have coffee or a meal, and an oversized lounge chair. The bathroom vanity had double sinks and there was a shower, jetted tub, and water closet for the toilet.
The hotel offers a continental breakfast, which while we were there consisted of prepackaged muffins, granola bars, and danishes, boiled eggs, oatmeal packets, yogurt, and fresh fruit. They also set out hot water/tea and coffee. The lobby/breakfast area has several tables, a fire place, and additional couches and chairs for spending time. They have puzzles and a variety of games to play.
The location is so great. You can park your car and walk to several wonderful restaurants and breweries. You also have easy access to the Recreational Path, which can take you further into nature or into the lower part of Stowe with additional restaurant/brewery/activity options.
The Stoweflake staff really made the visit great. When we checked in, their key card system was down, and was down for the majority of our stay. What that meant was that anytime you needed to get to your room, a staff member would have to let you in. Everyone hustled to make sure guests had ready access to their rooms. The good news, the key card system works again (and we enjoyed our 12 hours of key card access).
The bottom line is that Stoweflake needs some upgrades, but in the meantime offers comfortable accommodations at an appropriate price point.

A perfect location, within walking distance to great restaurants, shops and with the bus taking you to the slopes stopping right opposite the hotel, you won’t be reliant on your car! The Stowe recreational path and bike rentals are also in the immediate vicinity.
Upon check in, the ambiance alludes to an up-market resort filled with rustic charm, featuring grand furnishings, cozy social corners and large fire places. The entire team here are exceptional, effortlessly connecting with their guests, ensuring every requirement is met. The clean and comfortable rooms here are amongst the largest I’ve stayed in, with modern coffee making facilities, comfortable beds and chunky, dark wood furnishings that were built to last! I especially love the upholstered armchairs that rock, a great place to relax and read a book next to your very own working fireplace, giving out plenty of heat, with none of the mess! If it’s warm outside, the AC works as it should.
The facilities at the Stoweflake are second to none, with a spa offering everything a modern day vacationer could ask for! I love the indoor and outdoor pools, alongside the outdoor jacuzzi hot tub, all offering far reaching views of the surrounding mountain peaks. In addition to wellbeing facilities, the games room, TV room (with a vending machine) squash court and tennis courts, you’d be forgiven for never wanting to venture offsite! Combine these facilities with the complimentary continental breakfast and afternoon tea touches and you have the perfect place to relax and unwind, host your perfect wedding, or with proportions this big, plenty of space for conferences and larger gatherings. Thank you for a wonderful stay, I can’t wait to return again soon!

Dingy, dirty room.
The room was dingy and dirty. Curtains only covered about 50% of the window so no privacy on a ground floor motel style room.
They did not have keys for the rooms so you had to ask to be let in every time you came back. This included shouting your room number across the lobby which could’ve been a sketchy security incident.
Housekeeping never cleaned while we were there.
I understand setting high prices for a one off event like the eclipse weekend, but if you are going to charge 800+ /night for a room, it should at least have a working key, a curtain, and have housekeeping come by.

I stayed here last night and wanted to write a review on it. I stayed here with some family as a one night stay on our way to Maine, when I first stepped in this place I could tell that it was run down and had significantly less staff than what you would expect for such a big resort. It has the feeling like a haunted place. All the doors are creaky, the air condition is either really hot or really cold, and you need to bring a candle since the rooms smell like oxidized brass/ copper. In most of the rooms there is a faucet next to the closets and one in the bathroom, the one next to the closet will dispense water at an extremely rapid rate if not careful. There isn't a limit on how much you can turn the faucet knob so it will just start dispensing faster and faster. Finally make sure you don't use the faucet outside the restroom, that faucet has a strange murky water flowing out of it.

Great stay despite an online reservation clitch. Booking was made online because the cancellation policy stated that the reservation could be cancelled free of charge until 3 days before arrival. When I submitted my reservation request and was charged, the confirmation email I immediately received stated that no cancellation was possible. I contacted the resort and was told that the problem had been reported to management 1-2 weeks prior but that no change in the erroneous online information had been made, and that there was no way to cancel the reservation. Seemed to me to be a "bait and switch" situation that I was very unhappy with. Fortunately, our actual stay turned out to be quite pleasant.and I would definitely go back again

This place is one you should avoid. We should have guessed something might be off when we got a last minute email advising us that the spa and restaurant were both closed for repairs. Apparently they had been closed for quite some time but the hotel still charges a resort facilities fee. Only one pool was open. There are no lovely gardens to sit in because the weeds are overgrown in most areas, including the parking areas. We were pleased that the roof did not leak in our room because the condition of the roof shingles is horrible. They are hard not to notice.
Our room was clean despite its’ 1980’s decor. The air conditioning worked well. We were relieved to find the room cool because the long hallway to our room had no vents, making it hot and steamy.
In short, we should have just stayed at the Best Western near route 89. If you don’t want to feel disappointed and cheated, do NOT stay at the Stowflake Mountain “Resort and Spa”.

Disappointed in the room and bathroom preparation, as it appeared the cleaning staff missed this room. The rooms near the pool and spa smelled of chlorine. The resort is in a good location for skiers, they provided a continental breakfast for early skiers and the desk staff was helpful.

Stowe flake is in a perfect location in Stowe but it needs significant updates. My biggest disappointment was to find out that in order to have your room cleaned it needed to be scheduled. We checked in on a Friday and we were not surprised not having the room cleaned on Saturday (has become a normal ) but when it was not cleaned on Sunday I was surprised. I was told by the front desk that it needed to be scheduled and that it was part of the confirmation email I received. I believe this should have been communicated when we checked in. We paid a premium for this location.

Reviews had informed us that a previously neglected Stowflake was in the process of upgrading, and guests had reported some shabby grounds and common areas. We booked because they didn't require a two-night minimum, and the price was fine, worth taking a risk on. When we arrived, it was clear the grounds had received some attention with some nice plantings, though it was also clear the driveway was on the to-do list of upgrade projects. The common areas were fine, though replacing the hallway carpets is another to-do project. At this time there is a focus on reopening the spa, which seems to be where the money is going. We had confusion over our booking (the date we booked the room had been entered as the night of our reservation, so we didn't have a room reserved for the night we showed up), but the desk clerk was very helpful, and found us a room for the rate of the room we thought we had booked, which he said was all that he had the authority to do, but told us we should speak to the manager the next day. We did so, and she apologized for the confusion, and waived the room fee we had been charged. The room itself, a deluxe king, was a lovely room with spa and fireplace, well appointed, clean and comfortable. The Stowflake is clearly on the rise back, and we enjoyed staying there, and appreciated how the staff managed the booking problem.

Hello,
