My quilt guild has booked here annually in September since 2006. The meeting room is well suited for our needs. The "hotel" rooms have always been very clean and well cared for. The food is almost too good--it's impossible to not over indulge! Amanda Klein makes our arrangements and is our contact person. She is always very gracious, available, and easy to work with. She has accommodated all our requests over the years. I highly recommend!

I just finished the week-long adult tennis program at the John Newcombe's Tennis Ranch. The daily 5.5 hour program covered all aspects of the game. The instructors lead by Adrian did a great job of mixing direct, on-court teaching with fun playing activities. The instructors were able to give individualized instruction at the level of each player. The room and food were good. Jaime, the bartender, is a super person, and I enjoyed spending time with him in the evening. I hope to return in the near future.

My experience at Newk's tennis camp is on I will never forget.I went in 1977 and 1978. I just remember it being so exciting and fun, but very challenging. At the end of camp they gave out a first place trophy and a scholorship to go back that wnter and try out for a team that would play in tournaments while wimbleton was going on. I won both first place and the scholorship. I didn't even know till the end of the camp they were giving this out. It was by far the most excitng thing that ever happened to me. I went back in the wnter but did not make it. It was close though. Now I have three children and my daughter has been to the camp twice. I give tennis lessons in the summer and I always highly recomend and have helped send my tennis students to Newk's camp because of my wonderful experienc that I had.

My family and I were directed to the Newcombe property while visiting New Braunfels for a large birthday celebration over the Thanksgiving weekend. We quickly left our baggage in a small, dated, stuffy room and headed out to join family and friends. We returned several hours later, tired from travel and visiting. The beds were horrible, bathroom barely clean and air conditioner not working. As it was 11:00 at night, my husband and I decided to "deal with it in the morning". We were so tired. Little did we know the walls and ceiling were made of paper. Heavy footsteps above and a basketall game on TV in the next room proved too much. We could even hear the halftime scores. I went to the front desk to find a security guard immmersed in a book and not able to help. He was not surprised at all when I suggested to him we would pack up our children to find a comfortable hotel. We did. We were billed for the night. When the Newcombe company learns the simple business value of renovation we would consider returning. Nowadays travel, alone or with family, must be comfortable. And there is too much competition to settle for anything less. Yes, it caters to tennis players but do tennis players really settle for THAT?

Don't expect much in the way of accommodations. We had to change rooms 3 times (toilet not working, no air conditioning, loud neighbors, etc). But we went to play tennis, and that was worth the trip. The Pros are wonderful for ALL level players. Everyone there was so nice, very down to earth and definitely not a country club atmosphere. They do a good job of mixing hard work with fun. You have to attend the karaoke party in the bar on Saturday night - a blast! I'd definitely go back.

Your going there for the tennis NOT a five star country club.... They work you hard, the food is plentyful, but not gourmet ... YOUR GOING THERE FOR THE TENNIS...They work well for all levels and the groups are small. The accommodation is basic but fine .. YOUR GOING THERE FOR THE TENNIS ... you don't do much more than crash in the room because they have worked you so hard with drill after drill .. No time to relax ... cause YOUR GOING FOR THE TENNIS.... in the evening they make it really fun in the bar... So bottom line is if your looking for a country club don't come ... if you want your tennis to improve and your a 3.0 to 4.5 player ... you will get supportive coaches that are only too happy to answer questions... the beds are clean. So go for the tennis and have a blast! I will be going back for my fourth visit.

I went back to Newks for the third (and final time) in October 2014, as part of a 'group' that goes to Newks every year. I was told that some of the rooms had been remodeled, since the last time I was there, so I requested one of those rooms. Though the room was an improvement , I still found upon entering the room, a loose wood board by the door and an unplugged lamp on the desk that didn't work. It was difficult to lock and unlock the door. Curtains only partially cover the windows so if you are facing the courts (which I was), there was little privacy.

The food was about the same. Edible, but nothing really appetizing. While in the buffet line I was looking for a trash can and did not see one, so I asked one of the staff from the kitchen to please throw it out. If looks could kill, I would have been dead on the floor. Other people noticed her inappropriate reaction. No bus people in the dining room clearing plates, no trash can, so in a nutshell, unsanitary.

The tennis. On my previous visits, the tennis instruction was better than this time. All the pros (except for one or two) are basically straight out of college. All Good players, but only 'fair' as instructors. You will get some exercise and the drills are ongoing, so you get some good practice, however, don't count on quality instruction.

Going to Newks reminds me of my camp days growing up. There's a lot of cheering (yes they put on a team and cheer loudly) and chanting. So, along with the food, it does feel like a 'camp' for adults. Great if you like this kind of thing, which I personally don't care for. I should also note that my kids went for a week over the summer several years ago and said they would never go back because the housing conditions were deplorable. They reported 'ANTS' all over the sinks and inside the rooms. So bad, in some bunks that they were sharing showers and sinks with guests in other rooms. The summer camp is not cheap, so this was unacceptable. Compared to other tennis camps for adults, the price for a weekend is fairly cheap. You get what you pay for.

We are so sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to the Ranch as you obviously had the previous 2 times. We wish we would have known about your room problems as we try to follow up immediately and correct upon hearing any concerns. For your information we have replaced our door locks and now have a keyless system. We are sorry that you did not enjoy our food service and we will be sure to follow up on the issues you raise, and in particular our staff's reaction to your comment. We are also sorry that you were unhappy with the tennis instruction and our instructors. We do work hard on training our staff and are certainly very proud of them. We obviously did not meet your expectations in this regard. We do try to make the Ranch visit a "fun vacation experience" but are always very serious about our instruction and trying to improve your game. Again we obviously failed you in this instance. We wish that we would have been aware of the ant problem in your kid's room 2 years ago. We do prohibit food in the cabins for this very reason and perhaps this might have created the problem. We are confident that we could have reacted instantly and corrected the problem had we been notified. While we know that we are not perfect we do try to be perfect in listening and following up on any problem that is brought to our attention, and correcting it expediently whenever possible. Again our apologies and good luck with your tennis in the future.

A group of four tennis friends went for a weekend of tennis instruction. We had a 2 bedroom condo. The set up in the condo is one very small bedroom with two twin beds and a much larger room with two queen beds. The larger room had its own A/C unit so that room did stay pretty cool. I had read the other posts so I wasn't expecting luxurious accomodations but I was expecting something nicer than a Motel 6 or Super 8. Cleanliness, bedding and linens were on par with Motel 6. Air conditioning did not work properly in the living room and smaller bedroom and we were told there were no other rooms and that it was just hot in the loft rooms due to no insulation. Funny, their website does not mention that this is "just the way it is." Our living area and small bedroom were always over 80 degrees in the afternoon and early evening. After 3 requests, they did finally provide us with an commercial type fan that was so loud that we had to shout. Their was a washer/dryer in the unit but we didn't use it because we didn't want to heat the room up any further. The water was turned off for a few hours on our second day. We were told it would be just a few minutes. This would not have been a big deal but it was the time in between our tennis sessions so not everyone got to shower. The toilet was stopped up and again, took 3 calls to get attention for this problem. Ok, so you get the picture; accomodations are really lacking. Onto the tennis program, which is what we were there for anyway. We had a social hit Friday night for about 2 hours that was pretty good. No real instruction but some fun drills. There was 1 pro for every 5-6 players. The next day we had two clinics, one from 9-11:45 and another from 2:00-4:00 and a round robin tournament from about 4:30-5:30. The drills were good and you definitely get a workout. The program is run by a man named Joe and he has about 7 college students assisting him. There were 5 male pros and 2 female pros. Noone in my group received much individual instruction and I do have to point out that the young college men did spend alot of time working individually with the younger women there. Not bitter; this is just a fact. I still got some very useful things from the clinics. There was a lot of time spent explaining the drills and then always some confusion among Joe and the pros about how to run the drills so the time could be more efficient. They do adult weekends alot so I'm not sure why they don't have it down to a science by now. Just something simple like having the pros rotate courts instead of the players would help so that you're not always having to go back to where your bag is for water or a towel. They did keep the water jugs well stocked and that was good since it was extremely hot everyday. Overall, we did hit a lot of balls just didn't get much individual instruction. The food is provided as part of the package. All the meals were buffet style and were pretty standard "camp fare", nothing gourmet but ok. There is a bar with very reasonable priced drinks. Pros socialize with the guests in the evening. Front desk staff are not the most efficient. After making our reservation, we didn't get a confirmation email or anything stating what to bring. When I called with questions, they would answer the exact question but did not volunteer any additional information. We originally planned to stay Sunday night as well and then changed our plans so I called to cancel that night. Then, when we checked in, we confirmed that our last night was cancelled. When we checked out, we were charged for the extra night and it took some time for them to rerun cards and credit the over charge. We all agreed that while we had a fairly good time, we probably would not return and definitely not in the middle of the Texas summer heat.

GREAT TENNIS PROS. WONDERFUL AUSSIE HOSPITALITY. Plentiful tennis courts including hard true clay courts. This is not a country club, but a great tennis camp and lots of fun! Food is average, as is the accommodations (very 3-star). We had a 1-bedroom condo and loved the large space, full kitchen, and washer/dryer in room. The pro's really do a fantastic job and work hard at personally accomodating everyone's request from tennis to evening activities which always adjourn in the bar for some games, music and hanging out. - The camp location in the Hill Country of Texas is gorgeous. This is a very low key resort and TONS OF FUN! We already booked our next 5-night stay the day after we left camp.

Perfect place to go with a group of tennis-playing friends for the weekend.

There are lots of pros to accomodate all levels of tennis. Accomodations and food are basic, but since you won't spend any time in your room, who cares? And you will be so hungry from so much tennis, everything tastes great.

Most of the accommodations I saw were the casitas, however, they were set up for the summertime Juniors Tennis Camp. Meaning they were furnished with bunk beds to accommodate 4-6 boys or girls and a counselor. I would describe the casitas as "cozy" but comfortable for two adults. In regards to them being remodeled, after a summer full of juniors tennis clients, I would hope they get spruced up every fall, but I have not seen them during the winter/spring seasons. I hope this helps.
