Halfway through our holiday at the Corona Roja. Having read the reviews I was a little apprehensive.. however we arrived and were absolutely impressed.. we’ve never stayed 2* before.. ever, but would absolutely come back here.

Positives-

Staff are lovely and friendly.. a warm welcome from reception staff, and Kay in the bar and dining area is gold to this hotel

Food was lovely.. on arrival we had lovely fresh pizza, burgers, Spanish tortilla and lots of fresh salad and fruit.. a small but fresh and tasty selection due to reduced numbers. You must use a disposable glove to use the serving tongs, which is a simple but effective idea. Enjoyed lovely meatballs and chicken stroganoff in the evening, although by choice we often eat out. The breakfast bacon is superb!! Better than any I’ve had in U.K. hotels..

Hotel is spotless.. rooms and communal areas could not be faulted. Sanitising stations everywhere

Alcohol what you would expect from any AI with local drinks served. My pet hate is overly sugary / syrupy mixers, which is not the case here.

Our apartment was fabulous.. we paid €10 per night to upgrade to a refurbished apartment.. spotlessly clean with a full size fridge, mini hob, microwave oven / grill, crockery etc. Mattresses look like they’ve never been slept on. View from our apartment must be the best for miles.. amazing!! Lovely soft artificial grass on the balcony and modern clothes dryer. Flatscreen TV and comfy modern couch in lounge area. Huge walk in shower and fresh fluffy towels in bathroom.

2 min walk to bus station and beach

2 min walk to lots of fab restaurants and shops

Things that could be improved :

Paying for tv through slot cash box
No air con - design of room means you can leave patio door and window open which gives a breeze- maybe for higher rooms
No full length mirror (personal preference)

The positives outweigh any wee niggles. We would absolutely book again. Thank you all at the Corona Roja.. we’re having an excellent time ☀️

My score is as a overall rating as some things are definitely less than 3 but some things more.. I will start with the good things. Best thing is the cleaners always happy and do a great job. Bar/restaurant staff mostly pleasant 90% of the time and reception are helpful when needed and the location is ok too. Now for the downsides.. this hotel is not a hotel for children in all fairness should be adult only with the way some people are there... no inflatables aloud in pool.. the pool is a decent size but when wanting the sun there is majority of the pool in the shade by just after 2 pm. Drinks a little bit of a let down by cocktails being done in vendor rather than fresh..the biggest downfall is the food the presentation of the eggs at breakfast is terrible... some of the puddings was still frozen at lunch. And another major downside was all inclusive finishes at 12 on day of leave even if not being picked up till later that day. Also the indoor pool is non existence due to be covered over... it's a decent base for people. I'm sure they would get better reviews if they made it adult only or just updated a little bit for families.

Pros
Ocean view
Decent sized bedrooms plenty of storage
Cleaning lady came 4 out 5 days

Cons
Everything in apartment had a lower budget feel. Definitely 2 star max.

No kettle, hairdryer, soap ...
Single beds 1 pillow.
Sofa thin foam
Some light bulbs not working or on way out
Good water pressure but very basic shower. We had to strap ours in place with hair elastics to use.
Toilet worked fine but water level always stayed high as though blocked. Bit off putting.
Outdated poor picture SLOT TV.
To be fair it is only rated as a 2 star accommodation so I suppose cant complain.....
We had 2 bedroom with sea view which was brill and a distraction from poor standard all around.

We am here half way through our all inclusive holiday. We are now on day 5 and every meal is with chips and a very limited selection of vegetables 1 veg if you are lucky if you are including the chips you have two veg per meal time. Have we been spoilt at other locations when we go all incisive? Or is it just a simple factor that all inclusive just means that the alcohol is what you are paying for with all inclusive and that you have a rubbish food selection. I do enjoy my alcohol but I also enjoy a good balanced diet. I am not looking forward to checking out what weight I have gained this week all I can say is that I am glade that the airline doesn’t change passenger weight per KG.
The room is very basic and small must be the smallest in the place. No facilities supplied to make hot drinks in your room, kettles can be hired from the hotel shop. I personally am an early riser and enjoy a cup of tea or two first thing in the morning so unable to get a cup of tea from the hotel until breakfast time after 8am.
TV in room sounds very good until you wish to watch it coin meter so I haven’t even bothered with it because why pay for not even knowing what you could end up with watching.
Very dated decor hotel needs to be refurbished.
Two nights left to go and it is very unlikely that we will be eating here again otherwise I could have a coronary due to a very bad diet.
All the best if you have already booked and paid for your stay here. We personally will not be returning or even advising our worst enemy to stay here.

Where to start….. all inclusive, had to wait 2 hours for our room on arrival after being told 5/10 mins twice. So had a pint on the terrace…. Worst pint we had all week, the lager smelt eggy and tasted vile. The spirits are rubbish too. So they were the only drinks we had in the hotel for the whole of our holiday. The food was shocking . Me and my friend both sick on second day from some sort of fish we ate there. The only hot food was the chips everything else not even Luke warm . We only had dinner there on the first night. Breakfast ….. sausages are the worst I’ve ever had and the bacon is only on every other day., beans are watery , eggs are dry bread rolls rock hard not sure what the mimi tinned cocktail sausages are for ..The Cutlery takes you a while to find a clean set,I’ve honestly never been to an all inclusive like it. Just go self catering trust me. The shop attached to the hotel was good value for money. The lifts take ages and are tiny. No air con in the rooms. The Tv is 1€ per hour, you can rent a safe for the week , room only cleaned once in our 7 day stay another day they took our towels and left us with 1 bath towel so had to go to reception for more. €20 deposit for the room which I didn’t understand tbh as when we checked out no one checks your room , you just get your €20 back so pointless really. Spare keys are €10. Stayed in far better hotels for less. Money on the island.

Stayed here for a week with my partner to what can only be described as the worst hotel I have ever stayed in all the years of travelling. We decided to stay here on a bed and breakfast as we would be spending the evenings out with friends, on arrival the check in went smoothly and we were given the key to our room a ‘studio apartment’ when we got the the room I was shocked on how dated the room was the apartment had a job with two rings no kettle or tostre so very little in the way of being able to make food yourself, we asked at reception about a kettle and they said they don’t have kettle in rooms,…the curtains had holes the so called sofa was fraying and also had holes the bed room was more a box room with paint flaking with an opening to the living room with thin fraying curtain to pull accross, the bathroom had broken tiles on the floor and a shower curtain that didn’t fit problem and had flaking paint on the ceiling the loo roll holder was loose , if you wanted to watch tv you had to pay with a meter. Breakfast was served between 8-10 am and if you arrived after 8.30 everything lukewarm / cold and staff very slow replenishing when food trays went empty. Poolside had very hard plastic uncomfortable sun beds and if you wanted a lounger cushion you had to pay a daily fee, the sun umbrellas were broken and pool side wasn’t cleaned everyday as you could see fag butts and bottle corks were left on the floor for days before being cleaned, this is the first time I have ever written a negative review but I am truly magicked at the standard.

The hotel requires a €20 deposit on check in, this is refunded on check out.
Hotel is very run down, has only 3 lifts able to carry a maximum of 4 people (1 of which sat on the reception floor and never arrived if called for)
Our room had 2 single beds. A coin operated TV and no tea/coffee making facilities. The water pressure wasn't conducive to wash long hair effectively. However, sheets and towels were changed daily Mon-Fri.
All Inclusive buffet breakfast started at 8am with the same options every morning. All inclusive drinks Inc tea/coffee were unavailable 11pm-8am and 10am-11am.
Lunch options were mainly chips, pizza, soup, salad
Dinner options were very repetitive and all cooked food was extremely salty.
The staff were very friendly if you took the time to thank them and engage in conversation.
The hotel mainly attracts those of retirement age and were not accepting of groups talking "loudly" or socialising with other guests that may be enjoying themselves too much.
The pool was a good size with a ramp and steps for good accessibility however, even in 28°c sunshine; the water was no more than 5°c and painful to get into for more than 20 seconds.
We were pressured into checking out before the official checkout time of midday as the cleaners wanted to get in the room. Our bands were cut off and All Inclusive finished at 12noon.

When we arrived we had a basic room however asked for an upgrade which we were given a modern suite in a separate annex. 2 doubles and a single in one room and a double in another as well as 2 separate bathrooms. 3 tvs in the suites which were all flat smart tvs. Included was a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The food is not out standing but nice. We stayed all inclusive and had local and home spirits included. The pool is busy however i enjoyed having a swim around 6pm so began to get quiet. The staff are lovely and welcoming, and honestly the hygiene is brilliant. You put a mask on, gloves and sanitiser. The staff came around after you cleaning everything down due to covid-19. The only negative i have is the lifts 😂😂😂. We will defo come back again.

Me my wife and two children just got Back to uk after staying here for 10 nights.we booked with love holidays.all the pictures on the site are all completely different they are all refurbished rooms that look really nice. This could not be further from the truth. The room stunk of mould shower was so small with no power at all had to literally shower with a trickle of water.Which was a pain in morning for breakfast.O and the breakfast was a bit rubbish give us all the nastys the second day think it might have been sausages not cooked properly felt really rushed eating as well with a man waiter who constantly came over to table literally picking your plate up why you are still eating saying you finished now. Back to the room only had it cleaned twice why we were there and they only changed towels once. When I asked the cleaner for more towels she just kept saying not allowed only change every 4 days.worst off all I didn’t blame the cleaner as she just worked there and kicking myself now so much as because I always tip the cleaner when we leave I gave her 20 euro only when we got all the washing out to wash and empty bags when home me and my wife realised she had robbed us blind.grrrr she had took a 1 oz gold chain a real Armani watch which were mine and a gold bracelet and my wife’s diamond and ruby ring which she has had for 20 years when I proposed to her.so gutted 😢 There’s things money can’t buy sentimental things can’t be replaced . Spoke to receptionist earlier today and she just said it’s not are responsibility. She said she did not recognise the description off the lady I mean horrible heartless robbing scum bag not lady.just in case anyone is staying here anytime soon she is a slightly larger woman black curly hair brown eyes and about 5 ft 2 looks like butter won’t melt in her mouth always smiling was working on the 4th floor. She took them on the last day so just beware we literally took the suitcases down the lifts to reception which there is only 3 off and fit two people in each and take for ever to come and when they do always someone in it so have to cram in with them.and my wife left her bags in room we must have been no more than 15 min and she must have slipped in then. The receptionists we’re always rude some staff were nice at so called pool bar which was at least 70 m away from pool and you can’t enter if your wet great pool bar lol pool was great tho quite big bit cold tho as after 4.30pm the sun disappears behind the hotel as it’s a north facing pool.if you have not booked yet stay well clear of this s#%t hole save your money and if you have booked try get a exchange ASAP hope this helps sorry to go on I never complain but getting robbed just pushed me over the edge take care avoid AVOID AVOID please

We stayed for a week at this hotel. The location is great, very close to the beach and plenty of shops , restaurants around, 10 minute walk to the Irish Centre, food was ok but mostly catered for Germans and not a great deal for kids other than burgers or hot dogs, Good breakfast choice though. Strangely there were people who actually live in the hotel - mostly old people ,no snacks available during the day out with set meal times other than ice cream, drinks were fine, No air conditioning in the rooms which was ok but could not cope with that in the height of summer, our room 404 was very dated , no kettle, very clean though.
the staff in the restaurant were fantastic, especially Ana, she really went out her way to make my sons birthday special. Reception staff were quite rude and not very helpful, be aware you need to leave deposits for everything 20 euro for 1 room key and you get 10 back 10 euro for a second key , 10 euro for safe key, you can also hire pads for the sun loungers which was handy. Entertainment was NON EXSISTENT. Overall we enjoyed our stay but did feel the hotel rooms badly needed upgraded, believe some have been but we didnt get one.

I am not sure what they classify as “delux”! We were in two rooms and both had kitchenettes and balconies. The kitchenette in room 710 was more modern than the one in 1009.
