My wife and I took a late booking to this hotel on recommendation of our local TUI holiday shop.

Checking reviews beforehand many referred to the uphill walk leading from the sea front to the hotel.

There is a five minute walk up the steady slope but taking our time to tackle the climb was not difficult for my wife who has asthma and is recovering from a TIA stroke suffered in August 2019. People should not be put off this hotel for its location on a hill.

The hotel consists of more than one block of accommodations and block number 2 is presently being refurbished.

Our room was 2324 a newly refurbished room with sea and pool views on floor 3 and the work was being carried out on floors below ours.

There was noise from the workers but it did not affect our comfort or enjoyment and we were informed the work was being carried out in advance of our arrival.

We had half board but there is all inclusive which allows visitors to upgrade on arrival at the hotel.

Join the Medplaya scheme 0nline before your arrival and you will receive points which can be exchanged for free gifts at the Medplaya desk in the hotel foyer.

Kettles and safe can be hired at reception and part of the deposit is refunded on returning the items to reception on completion of use.

The hotel is easily accessible once arriving at the reception and there are lifts to each floor of the different accommodations.

Dining is self service with one hot cooking live station each night.

Tables were quickly cleared and reset by staff who are all friendly and engaging. Clearly most of them have worked at the hotel for some years.

On arrival our room was not ready so we had to use the hotel luggage storage facility close to the reception which requires a non refundable 2 euro coin to lock the locker (not 2 x 1Euro).

The food was plentiful with themed dining most nights and Gala dinner on Friday night.

There are micro waves available in the dining room if you feel the food is not hot enough for your taste.

There are supermarkets and bars close by some of which were not open on our arrival (09 Feb leaving 16 Feb 20).

At the bottom of the hill and across the main road is the hotel Riviera which has a lift leading down to the beach front if you are unable to walk down the nearby sloping streets leading to the sea front.

This hotel caters for families with daily entertainment team however the nightly programme does not being until 9pm with the cabaret starting at 10pm.

We would recommend the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Stopped for a week half board at the bali at the beginning of the month
I have allready been to benalmadena before about 5 years ago so was interesting to see how the area has changed.
The bali as pretty much every review will say is up an hill we got better getting up it as the week went on. The rooms need a revamp as it's a bit outdated although always clean
No bin in the room though just the tiny one in the bathroom
Only one plug socket in the bedroom and one in the bathroom as well. We take a USB travel adapter which was lucky for this hotel
Meals were pretty much the same every day not masses of veriaty. I am vegetarian and I really struggled with it. I know Spain isn't the best for veggie food but I found the bali really lagging behind some of the hotels I've stayed in

Staff at the bar were spot on
Reception staff a little slow at times
Benalmadena was quiet but was too be expected this time of year so spent the evenings at the hotel. The entertainment wasn't my cup of tea and some of the games went on for too long.
Will go back to Benelmadena but prob not to the bali

Dear Kelly B, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We are pleased to inform that the rooms in Bali II are being refurbished and all of them will be ready by March. We sincerely hope that despite the issues you encountered on this occasion you will reconsider your decision not to return to stay with us at the Hotel Bali, and that we will be able to welcome you back once again. It is exactly what you pay for. And it was really nice to see a hotel so keen on recycling plastics and avoiding waste.

The staff were very helpful and friendly, in particular Juan the bartender and Alex from the animation team!

The rooms are currently in the process of being refurbished, we was lucky to have one of the freshly refurbed rooms. The room was clean, modern and nicely furnished. However, the walls are very thin and we could hear next door, as if they was in the room with us.

The food was OK. Sometimes the food was on the warm/ cold side. There was a good selection, but was quite limited on vegetarian side. There was a veggie in our group and one of the chefs was happy to cook a cheese pizza.

The pool was closed at our time of vist. However, when we asked reception they advised us that it was to our own discretion. They do not employ life guards in the cooler months as they believe it is too cold. Do not let the barriers fool you, just ask reception at the time to confirm.

The bar had a good selection of all inclusive drinks and cocktails. And the bar staff did not measure, which can be dangerous! 😂 The beer was gassy and cheap, but still drinkable.

The all inclusive snack bar is not up to much. The food was fairly stale and boring, but we found it was nice to eat out at lunch as it was cheap enough.

The evening entertainment was good. And the animation team tried to get everyone involved in a quiz, bingo, karaoke etc.

Overall, a very nice get away from the January blues. I would stay here again

We returned here for another lovely holiday. Staff work really hard and always greet us with a very friendly welcome. Stuart and the reception staff see to a fast check in. Julian and the bar staff Veronica,Lola,Christina and the others are all friendly and work very hard. They always know what we drink at the different times of day. The restaurant staff and chefs always welcome us back with a warm welcome, they too work very hard and clean tables promptly. Last but not least the cleaners are really thorough at their work and always pass the time of day with us. We are really looking forward to our next visit which we have already booked to see the renovations. I wish the staff a very deserved 2 months off whilst the work takes place.

We stayed as a family of 4 for a week all inclusive over the new year. The hotel was as expected from reading reviews prior to staying. It is a good 3 star hotel. It was very busy, lots of Spanish and English guests. The hotel is large and well placed for exploring the town. It was a 5 min walk to the beach and around 10 - 15 min walk to the marina which is lovely. There is a steep hill from the hotel down to the main road, those with mobility issues will find this a challenge. We enjoyed the food, always plenty of choice, many meat & fish dishes. Always 2 choices of soup and a full salad bar. In the evening there are theme nights in the restaurant such as Italian and Mexican. My youngest child didn’t eat much at meal times but she is very fussy, she enjoyed the dessert section. Although you get an all inclusive wrist band you have to hand a ticket in at the bar for a drink, you then have to take your glass back to get another drink. When you have finished drinking you must remember to return glass to get your ticket back. A strange system we have not encountered before, we got used to it though, only problem was on New Year’s Eve when a glass collector took our glasses when we were not looking!
Our room had been recently decorated, it was bright and clean, cleaners came every day. Beds were comfortable. The walls are very thin, this became most apparent when a football team checked in, they were very noisy coming back drunk in early hours and shouting & laughing for a long time. Not the hotels fault but why put them in rooms by a family?
The pools were closed for the duration of our stay, not sure if they are always closed this time of year, it is a shame as my kids were desperate to play in the splash park.
The staff at this hotel certainly make the place, everyone from reception, bar, restaurant & cleaning staff were polite, friendly and they all work tirelessly. A great team.
Overall we really enjoyed our holiday, it was really great to see in the new year here, thanks to all at Hotel Bali.

The best thing was the animation team main one was Alex who was great. Otherwise all negative. Rooms were very dated in the old building still using same furniture when it was build no fridge no kettle. Take no notice of photos as they are not true likeness. Other part of hotel where family stayed was a lot better rooms. Only problem was as going with the family of 15 needed 4 rooms and none were anywhere near each other. Management were less than helpful most of the time. Food was OK nothing great but as we had 7 children with us they were not catered for at all. Down to the pool if you could find your way through the maze. Don't buy inflatables as your not allowed to use them. Pool never opened on time until we kept complaining one day instead of 10am was 11.30am. Lifeguard very rarely there, so my husband used to stay with the youngsters till they closed. Pool bar we were all inclusive but if you wanted any food had to pay half the price of what paying quests paid. Take no notice of the good reviews as would only class it as a 2 star. Never written a review before but wanted to let people know how we found it which was not good.

Dear Roxyskyehoney, We regret indeed reading such a negative review. All the rooms in Bali II are being refurbished at this very moment. The Club rooms, Family rooms and Junior Suites do provide a fridge, as well as the new Superior rooms. It is possible to hire a kettle at reception. All inclusive customers have access to the All in room at the main bar to enjoy the benefits of this service completely free. The Hotel Bali is a popular hotel and customer feedback in general is very high, all feedback is helpful to us when reviewing our performance and when making changes, so thank you again for taking the time to comment. We apologise for any inconveniences caused during your stay. Kind regards, Laura - LCM

Stayed here for a week in jan. It was my first trip to benalmadena.
From checking in to checking out the staff are friendly and eager to help.
Rooms are basic but clean and we'll equipped. Large bathroom with bath and over bath shower, shower was amazing, almost like a power shower. Clean towels daily.
Hairdryer in the bathroom.
Plenty cupboard and drawer space.
Beds are comfortable.
It is a large hotel but generally quite at all times, but then we were there out of season and the hotel was not full.

Food was good and varied, as all these buffet all inclusive hotels some days better than others. And as I find most continental places food was not very hot but there is a microwave to hear up food if required.

Pool area was closed off most of the time and I did not know why.

Tips and negatives
There are limited plug sockets in the bedrooms so it's a good idea to take a multiple socket and the wall sockets are not near the beds. The hotel is currently upgrading rooms so this may be different in the upgraded rooms.

No kettles in the rooms so if you like a morning cuppa take a travel kettle.

The cups in the restaurant are very small, it's advisable to take a mug and take it to breakfast in the mornings.
I would also advise taking English teabags as the tea is not good.
Evening entertainment can get very loud.

Stayed a week in October. The hotel overall is ok. We seemed to be in the older part which really required updating. Our room was cleaned each day which was good, however we had a bathroom door with a handle that kept falling off. A wardrobe with a sliding door missing, and the worst part was the wardrobe had a door on it which was locked, we quickly realised it must be housing some pipes because everytime the room above used the toilet, or had a shower we had the noise of the water in our room. So when they came in at say 11.30, and used the toilet or in a few cases had a shower, we were woke up. 7am every morning someone took a shower and we were woke up. I have never stayed anywhere before where you can hear water running so loudly like it’s in your wardrobe!
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone unless you want average all inclusive and are a family with young kids, as it’s very geared up to young children.

We have just returned from a week away in this hotel . First impressions when we first walked in was it look lovely. We was greeted a nice man called Stuart who checked us in and told us everything we needed to know.
We was given a room in Block 1 on the 2nd floor which on entering the room found it was quite small and quite dated but too be fair we did know that some of the hotel rooms are being updated at the moment.
We went back to reception and yet again spoke to Stuart who said we could upgrade for 10 euros a night which would have been 70 euros , so he offered us a key to look at an alternative room on the 7th floor ìn the same block. On entering this room you could see that this room had been updated and was more modern but the bathroom was exactly the same and we didn't think it was worth an extra 70 euros so we just stayed in our original room.
We had booked half board and we are glad we did . The food was lovely in the restaurant , plenty of choice at breakfast from a full English , a lot of choice for cereal , plenty of fruit juices , coffee and everything else you would want from breakfast.
So after our day on the beach we returned to the hotel to get changed for the evening and go for dinner. The food at dinner was lovely , loads of choice from salad and soups to a full main course and plenty of choices . The only down side was the prices they was charging for drinks in the bar. We did find them a bit steep . One thing I will point out I there is an option if you are doing half board to swap your evening meal for your lunchtime meal, so if you fancy eating out in one of the lovely restaurants in Benalmadena then there is an option to do that.
All in all we had a fabulous time at The Bali , great location, Bonanza Square 5 mins walk away and 5 mins walk to the beach down cardiac hill and also quite a few nice cheap bars at the bottom of the hill as well . We would definitely return here

Just returned home after a week at the Hotel Bali. First time visiting the Costa del sol. We are a family with a 14 and 11 year old, we booked a superior family room. Allocated a seaview on the 3rd floor overlooking the main pool. Excellent!
The room was clean, towels and bedding changed regularly. The hotel in general is big! Seams 3 blocks (Bali 1,2,3) all connecting together. The hotel is built on a hill, so the main pool is on floor minus 1, restaurant on floor 1, reception on floor 2 (ground floor) along with the second pool. Once you get your head around how to navigate the floors and where everything is you'll be fine.
We stayed all inclusive and found the food and drinks good. Always something to eat, even for my fussy 11 old! Breakfast was generally the same, but lunch and dinner was themed most days. We did eat out a couple of times just for a change.
The reusable cup and ticket system works well, simply exchange your empty glass for a full one! Good sized cups/glasses as well.
We had excess to a private snack room all day, it was ok, nothing special. Mainly fruit, bread rolls, ham, cheese and crisp, and then sausages, burgers and left overs from lunch from 3pm. Also there was a juice machine, coke machine and a coffee machine to use self service.
Other foods like panini's and pizzas were available to buy from the bar at a reduced price if all inclusive.
The 2 pool areas were clean, specific opening times, for the first 4 days of our holiday it was 10.30am-6pm and then on day 5 this changed to 11am-5pm. This ruffled a few feathers, lots of angry Brits as it is our half term and lots of kids staying that week.
the lifeguard fenced off the pool ON THE DOT, kids out! It was quite annoying especially as the sun didn't come out until lunchtime most days and the best weather was late afternoon! Also they have a rule no inflatables in the pool, one particular lifeguard allowed them early in the week and then change over in staff later on in the week didn't allow them, again this was a little annoying.
The entertainment was not to our taste, kids disco from 9.15 baby shark etc... And then the act from 10pm. The magician and the juggling act were funny. We enjoyed a walk down to the beach front, nice Irish bar called Mullarkeys was nice, we loved the Marina to. We paid €50 for the 4 of us to go out on a catermeran from the Marina, included a drink and the option to fish off the back off the boat! Brilliant! Hubby caught a fish!
Overall we had a lovely week, yes I would stay at the Bali again, it's in a great location, apart from the little pool niggles it was perfect!
