We flew back to Athens from Crete on Thanksgiving and our flight back to the U.S. was not until early the next morning. Thus, we opted to stay at the Sofitel Athens Airport. The location is 10 stars out of 5, as you literally walk directly out of the airport, across the street and into the hotel! The price reflects this convenience, as it was one of the more expensive one night stays we had in Greece. That said, ultimately it was worth the price - location was great, staff was friendly, room comfortable - in fact, the only negative I can point to is the price/quality of the restaurant. Upon arrival we were informed about some ongoing construction (which never impacted our stay), but we were upgraded and given complimentary breakfast and bar credits! Our room, 548, was spacious and more than met our needs. After getting settled we walked down to the bar and shared a bottle of wine - the bar staff was friendly and environment nice. The same did not hold true at the restaurant (Mesoghaia) for our Thanksgiving evening meal. The prices were quite steep for Greece and the quality was the worst meal we had across our 16 days in the country. While the moussaka was decent, the gyro platter was quite awful really - the meat was mostly chewy fat and had zero flavor...I had better gyros in college at the gyro cart outside of the bar zone! In retrospect, we wish we had walked back to the airport for our meal! Despite being directly across from the airport, we had no issue with noise and got a great night sleep. Given our early departure, we were going to miss the complimentary breakfast we had been offered. However, when inquiring at the front desk, they said they'd be happy to send up box breakfasts bright and early. At 4:30 am an entire cart of food arrived - more food than we could possibly eat before heading to the airport. It was a nice gesture by the hotel and we felt bad leaving so much behind! Overall, yes the price is high, but the convenience of staying directly next to the airport in a nice hotel is almost priceless! As for meals, I would suggest skipping Mesoghaia!…
During this Corona-times it is very important to stay in a hotel with a good anti-corona concept. This we found at Sofitel Athens Airport, so that we felt save during all our stay. For sure we will return to Sofitel Athens Airport for some stays this year.
We stayed one night at the conclusion of our 17 trip to Greece. The hotel is stylish, modern, clean, comfortable and, most of all, extremely convenient. Located just across the street from the terminal, the location took away any stress about getting through the congested Athens traffic to reach the airport on time for our flight. Even with the airport proximity, the room was quiet. The food in the restaurant was pretty good although expensive by Greek standards. If you are departing Athens airport, I highly recommend this hotel.
We loved the room. Very nice and renovated. Great bathroom and very good beds. The breakfast is also good. Friendly and quick check in and out. The room was very quiet. Not all rooms are renovates now, i think. We would come back!
Stayed here after a late flight into Athens and boarding cruise the next day. Literally two mins from arrivals. Friendly staff during check in and very covid safe. They were renovating floors which they let us know but put us in a high up floor and we didn't hear anything. Restaurant open late which was useful and had a beautiful meal. Again staff so lovely and friendly here. Room was nicely done, recently updated. Really cool bath and separate shower. Loved the room. Would stay again in a heartbeat!
