Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I could go on and on about the experience. Food is immaculate. Service so friendly almost hard to believe, being use to city restaurants. And the prices are ridiculously low. 10 stars out of 5! I usually don't write reviews but this place was special.

People writing negative reviews miss the point of this hotel. It was built in 1916. It wasn't meant to have everything we have in the comfort of our own home. No TV, no phone in the rooms. So what? The rooms are small. Remember when it was built. The food is family style, not gourmet...and it's delicious! The staff is friendly and helpful, and they work their tails off. John Cook, the owner, is a great guy and very helpful. Ronnie McDowell puts on a great show and is extremely friendly. I've been there 4 or 5 times. If I have a gripe, it that the hotel is not very wheelchair friendly...and I happen to be in a wheelchair. I've been able to bring with me what I need to overcome that obstacle, and it's not going to stop me from continuing to go. The property is a historical landmark, so it's exempt from having to do renovations to make it more wheelchair friendly. I understand that and accept it for what it is, not what I want, or "expect" in a hotel. Enjoy the experience and the people.

The hotel is more like a motel cluttered with flea market finds, rather than antiques. I reserved a king and got a small queen room. The room was clean but extremely small and had cheap plastic blinds with only a shear for the window. The bed was horrible, lumpy old mattress with cheap bedding and flat pillows. I left at dawn because there wasn’t a chair to try to sleep in. The walls seem paper thin as the you could hear everything. Dinner was average at best, the biscuits were canned, the dumplings had no chicken, the ham was pressed, macaronis overcooked, mashed potatoes great, creamed corn fair, the brownie was too hard to cut, nothing green, the staff appeared tired and seemed stressed. Ronnie McDowell was having a show in the entertainment center behind the hotel, the entertainment center was a metal building made into a large room on the inside with plastic tables and chairs, decor was nice in front of the stage but the table clothes and everything else was cheap plastic. It was BYOB, wish I had known brown bagging was permitted. The entertainment was wonderful, the band performed awesome and Ronnie McDowell was great! The owner was obnoxious and deceitful. In my opinion the only thing keeping the doors open is Ronnie McDowell and his fans.

We stayed here to see the Ronnie McDowell show and show was awesome hotel not so much room wasn’t very clean and it had a joining door you could literally open it and see the ppl in next room I was scared to sleep at night so I move night stand in front of door, air wasn't working good they had fan in there, then we got charged twice and when I called to talk to owner he went off on me and said it was there fault cause we called and booked twice I said no we didn’t and he told me over and over to shut my mouth and I was gonna let him talk to shut up and we had the phone report where his office called us the day the second charge went through, so needless to say our experience wasn’t good there other then seeing Ronnie and the fans they was amazing.

We stayed here for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. It was an absolutely wonderful experience! The rooms were simple, clean and nice. The service was great, the staff were all super helpful and friendly and ready to go the extra mile for us. We all had a great time. The catered food was delicious. Would highly recommend.

We had to make a very quick trip to Tennessee for my Uncle's funeral. We called John and he said to come on down, they would take care of us. That is exactly what he did. We got there, checked into our room. I walked back to the office area to take a look around (love all their beautiful antiques) and while I was there, John called in. He told the receptionist he wasn't charging us for the rooms because he loved my Uncle and Aunt and he wanted to do something for the family. Keep in mind, John himself was calling from the hospital because he was sick. I told them no way, we would be paying. The next morning while checking out, he once again told us we were not paying. We tried, but they wouldn't take it. We absolutely love this place and can't recommend it enough. If you love stepping back in time, sitting on a beautiful front porch, rocking your cares away, this is the place to go. I am looking forward to going back in May (our normal time). We talk about it to all of our friends and recommend it on an ongoing basis. John and his crew (we met a couple of new ones this time and they carry on the same welcoming mentality that we have come to love about the Donoho) are the best. John - we wish you well in your recovering. Love you all!

We recently celebrated my 50th birthday at The Donoho Hotel. We had a meal catered and held a party after in the Entertainment Center. The food was great and staff very friendly. I stayed overnight , the rooms do not have TV and gave the vintage vibe. My party was 1920s themed. We were treated to a family style sit down breakfast the next morning. Just an over all great experience.

The Sunday brunch can be found every 2nd and 4th Sunday every month . It’s good home country style food that is to die for . The cherry cobbler was awesome. I was able to fill up to the point where the drive back home to Nashville was difficult because of the need for a nap. I would recommend 10/10
