If you can get past the spelling mistakes on the menu, and on the specials board (we counted 15) then the food is pretty good. Since the pub was made over by Selling Houses AUSTRALIA the bistro area is a pleasant space! The outside space is wonderful but it was a bit cool to eat outside.

We arrived at the Shamrock Hotel at 7.30pm for dinner and asked what time the kitchen closed - advised it was 8.00pm. The menu is quite broad from your typical steaks and parmas to pasta and so on.

We both ordered Texas T-bones which were cooked well, the vegies and chips also cooked vey well.

The food is probably 3 star, but the service was excellent which is why my review is 4 stars.

Thank you for your review. We are just a small country pub, hence the food choices on offer. We do pride ourselves on affordability and quality. Glad your experience was a pleasant one.

We ordered the Seniors roast lamb and we were impressed with the generous amount of freshly cooked vegetables and succulent roast lamb. With a glass of cider followed by a tasty dessert we were rapt. Value for money , in clean pleasant surroundings and lovely staff. Well done to The Shamrock.

Our family optimistically entered the bistro for a nice lunch sadly we were very disappointed right from the beginning.
We were seated in the front window and got to fight off flys while we waited for our meals.
When we ordered our sons ‘kids meal’ which clearly stated on the menu that it came with ice cream and drink. The owner informed us he could only have one and had to pay for the other.
My husband’s schnitzel was thin, dry and burnt. My souvlaki was cold and my daughter’s chicken deluxe burger was also burnt.
While we waited for our average meals we had to listen to the owners grandchildren at the back of the room listening to ABC kids at a deafening volume.
Perhaps the most disappointing was the owner negative attitude, actually snapping that we can’t pay for our meals at the bar, despite being sent there from the bistro ordering area by staff.
A terrible experience never to be repeated.

We ordered 2 meals plus a cheese garlic bread. Unhappy and unfriendly staff. We waited 40 minutes for our garlic bread, so we got up and walked out. This place makes you pay after your meal(thankfully). It wasn't even bust their were only 9 other customers in the dining area, so not that busy.Went across the road to the corner hotel and got our meals in 15 minutes, the place was busy with 100 customers. Shamrock you might as well close your doors, your only open Friday,Saturday and Sunday's as it is.

We used to eat here every year when we camped nearby, and had a great experience each time. However over the last year it has changed hands and this time we had a terrible experience. We waited over an hour for the food, and four meals were brought out (an adults meal and three kids meals). We then waited another 1/2 hour for the rest of the meals, including another kids meal that wasn't even made until we asked about it. Food was very slow and of an average quality. Two of the chicken-based meals weren't even cooked properly and had clearly been microwaved out of a packet, and so two family members were left without a meal. We were told that the chef wasn't available when we complained about the raw chicken. Service was slow, food was less than average and the quality has gone completely downhill since the hotel has changed hands. What used to be a lovely place to eat and have a drink is now a disgrace. We will not be coming back.

Absolutely disgusting. Waited over an hour and a half for our main meals (our entrees never came) - when we asked where they were we were abused by the waitress who's response was "Well if you've got a problem you need to speak to the manager". She then delivered a couple of meals and as we mentioned there were more meals coming she swore at us saying "I don't have three hands". The female owner of the pub then came to our table and when we told her what was said she said "People speak to you how you speak to them" and when we said we'd be reviewing them online she said "Go for it, I'm the admin of the page and I'll delete it" and then told us to leave even though some meals were still to be delivered. And it wasn't well received when we asked for the money back for our undelivered entrees. The meals when they did arrive were all over cooked, chips burnt, adults spaghetti inedible and the mashed potato was lumpy. I would highly advise against wasting your time by visiting this establishment.

We did the Alexandra to Yea rail trail and stayed here. Big mistake.
Whist their greeting was gruff, this is something I can overlook. What was terrible was the accommodation.
We wish we didn't pre pay.The rooms were grotty (with shard bathroom facilities).
At 1.30 a.m. our room was filled with smoke and we had to sleep with the window open. It was freezing as there was no heating.
There was no top sheet so the stench of the donah was unable to be masked.
We were riding the rail trail and needed to be able to get some rest, which we didn't get.
In the morning I raised the smoke with an employee who told me that management let the locals smoke inside and sometimes they wonder upstairs into the accommodation area to sleep.
I resented paying $60.00 for the room.
We also didn't eat here. Its an unwelcoming environment filled with local alcos.
In fairness to the hotel I emailed them with my feedback and asked for a reply.
They didn't bother replying.
There is a hotel opposite which sits on the corner. I can't remember what it is called but we ate there. It wsas so clean and fresh looking. Accommodation was the same price and we wished we had of stayed there.

Had dinner here whilst going against all of my friends reviews (thought that they all couldnt have had a bad experience) and was left feeling astonished with the whole dining experience. The menu was boring so went for a safe option(so I thought) of a steak, salad and chips. Other people in our party werent too impressed with lack of creativity in vegetarian options and seafood options only being deep fried frozen products. My steak was overcooked, salad extremely bland and chips undercooked. The service was horrible even though we were served by the overweight and extremely rude and unkempt owner. We were left feeling like we were imposing on her evening and perhaps drinking session. I would suggest avoiding this place at all costs and I will be informing anyone that cares to ask to steer clear and we believe that it will only be a matter of time until the doors close for good which will only be a positive thing.

We have been doing weekend trips to Alexandra for the last 4 months and with friends coming up decided to book for dinner at the Shamrock Our 7.00pm request was accepted with no comment that a table of 30+ was booked for the same time. We waited 30 mins in the queue behind the group booking to order our 6 meals. 45 mins later we were told that the kitchen was only doing 1 table at a time and we were next. Our meals finally arrived 1hr 20mins from when we ordered .I ordered the chicken Kiev and by the colour of it, I should have been served after 1hr. Never seen a black Kiev before. I reluctantly tried eating it but gave up after 3 hard fought bites. Would recommend you try one of the other bistros in town.
