I have lots to discuss about UNSW village as I have lived for one semester before I decided to change a place to stay. I live in six people room type where the wall between each wall is paper thin. One time I even got into a fight with roommate because I open a music a slightly loud (which he always open so loud, but I didn't tell him to turn off or thing). Bad roommates can mean hell for you. The toilet door lock doesn't function properly (funny thing is it designs to be that way). Often time I find my roommate open the locked toilet door since it is so easy to open (that actually happened twice)... It might be good if you live with someone you are familiar with, but that wasn't the case for me. At one point I even found a cockroach due to an unhygienic roommates and other time they decided to throw a party at 3 a.m. (I was so mad during that night). Some of the receptionists are quite rude and can't even do the work properly).

I lived at the UNSW Village S1 2014 as an exchange student. They do try to have some events and build a community. As a former very active resident for two years at a dorm in my home uni in the US, I must say the community and engagement here is lacking. I felt very disconnected not only from my roommates but also didn't know or get to meet anyone in the village. It wasn't the kind of place where you would talk to or know your neighbors.

The furnishings are quite nice and rooms are spacious although I had several encounters with cockroaches and also maggots although that is probably mostly due to the disgusting state of the kitchen due to roommates. The wifi is an additional cost and doesn't work half the time if there is wind, slight rain, or if it just doesn't feel like it, and they block outside providers, so you have to buy their wifi.

The worst part was that the cost is quite expensive (although not comparing to the colleges but comparing to things off campus). And they have a horrid policy with canceling your contract. I left a month before my contract finished so ended up paying an extra >$1000 not even living there. If I had cancelled, I would have had to pay $500 to cancel PLUS CONTINUE PAYING RENT unless they happened to find someone who wanted to take the room. Which is ridiculous. The cancellation fee should cover the time they take to find someone so you don't have to pay rent anymore. That is the meaning of CANCELING. It's a full 6-months or 1-year contract, so unless you are planning to live there during vacations, you'll be losing a significant chunk of money whereas if you live in house, you could rent it out for the months you are not there.

Overall, I didn't feel at home there, the staff was quite inattentive. They only told me a few days before the date I could move in after pestering them with countless emails which left me in a stressful limbo not knowing if I had a place to stay when I arrived in Oz. It only got slightly better once I could go to their office in person. They were rather rude and secretive when I asked to see the contract and asked about cancellation. They never sent me the contract I asked for after promising. I would not recommend it at all.

I've been living there for the past year (they rent out the apartments when Uni's not on) and the place is crap. Can hear people in the room next door on the phone cause the walls are paper thin, there is no oven in the apartment, the furniture is disgusting and the beds are like lying on wood. If i hadn't had signed a year long lease before moving in here i would have most certainly looked for somewhere else to live. Sure the RA's provide basic help if you need it but basic is the key word to describe the UNSW village. The entire place is a money making scheme designed to take a cut off all those students who need a place to live while completing higher education. If i have any advice for you at all it would be to NOT STAY HERE.

I recently moved into a room in UNSW Village and found it ok at first, however as time went by I realised how much I hated it. The kitchen is infested with flies and stayed that way no matter how much I tried to clean it. The floors are very dirty, with paint drops, stains and other unvaccumble things. Bathrooms are ok, however if you have a messy room mate it becomes very irritating living in such filth. The contract is also very stupid and begins charging at a fixed date, one which I wasn't even therefore. Furthermore, my contract is unescapable and I have to pay rent for the whole year not matter what. One thing that is nice about the campus is the Fig Trees, however they do make a big sound when figs fall and hit the roof. There is also a lack of culture, for instance I didn't even get to see my two other room mates until a week in. The events are also lame and it seems as though no one goes to them despite there being so many people on campus.

I've been living at the UNSW Village for a couple of years and it just gets worse. There is a complete disregard for the wellbeing of the residents and they are basically seen as someone to take advantage and make profit of. Residents are students and they are forced to pay unreasonably high fees but seem to have very little rights.

Not my first visit to Mamak Village but my first review. I've has something different each time and can say they have all been very good. This time I tried the Nasi Goreng Kanpung. Nasi Goreng with fried chicken. The chicken is similar to southern fried in style with an excellent flavor crispy skin. Good value flavorful food in a nice atmosphere.

Excellent service, food and especially the coffee at Coco's. To be fair we did not sample other venues in the complex - all of which appeared to be well patronised (Other restaurants, grocery store and coffee cafes). The UNSW Village is an option to consider if in the area of the UNSW.
These facilities at the village are all private enterprises and operated efficiently.

Stayed here for 2 years for my studies, terrible quality, management is non-existent unless they’re trying to money grab. Cases include compilsory internet fees, abysmal cleaning services due to “failed” inspections that consider personal/aesthetic effects and decorations as “dirty”. Internet is unstable and laundry never works when you need it to, lifts either smell of alcohol, body odour, or some sort of dead animal. Would not recommend.

Highly rude staff, forget to provide amenities and blame you for buying your own. Asked to repair my window (it did not close. I had no privacy). They untangled them and left them. Still didn't close.

Target and berate people for not attending suppers (which are NOT compulsory by the way), Unsypathetic towards my health issues.

Overpriced considering the above

Worst policy ever for on campus accommodation. They charge cleaning fee whenever they feel like it and the place was not clean when we moved in anyway. Very bad overall and I would recommend avoiding it at all cost.
