We stayed in Angel Cottage for the weekend and found it to be very well equipped and a fabulous location. The beds are really comfortable and all the bedding and towels are of a very high quality. Although it was out of season a couple of shops were open and we went to the hotel for Sunday lunch which was very good value and very tasty.
Only one real negative was the quality and strength of the WiFi on offer, it is just the villages public network not a private WiFi connection in each cottage and as such you cannot really surf the internet or stream any videos, we took our amazon fire stick so we could watch a movie in the evening but the network wasn't up to the task and we had to give up.

This summer we returned to stay in Portmeirion after our first stay 5 years ago. Our initial summer plans had to, obviously, change and so we decided to treat ourselves to another stay.
We were, understandably, a bit nervous to stay anywhere with the current situation but the staff at Portmeirion were outstanding. Everything is sanitised thoroughly with staff ensuring they were socially distancing. There were sanitising stations in every shop and restaurant so that you could make sure you could keep yourself safe. We stayed in the Bridge House in the village itself. Once guests check in the staff do not enter the rooms unless a request is made for the rooms to be cleaned, and new towels and toiletries could be requested and left outside the rooms.
Obviously, with a reduced staff and being forced to socially distance things take a little longer but this was not a problem at all! Check in was delayed but we were informed of this prior to our arrival, and we were asked to book times for meals which was perfect for us. We were able to sit back, relax and enjoy our stay.
We decided to eat at the restaurant on both evenings, as well as for breakfast, for ease and had lovely meals on all occasions. We had a wonderful server (Tom Jones) who was very friendly, nothing was too much trouble and he kindly answered any questions that we had. Staff throughout our stay were brilliant and very professional, ensuring that they were doing their upmost to keep everyone safe and that their stay was as enjoyable as possible. We were able to enjoy leisurely breakfasts on both mornings and the slightly slower service because of the added precautions required were not noticeable at all.
We had a wonderful stay; we could not have felt safer or better looked after. A huge thank you to all at Portmeirion, we cannot wait to come and stay again, you are doing a fantastic job.

I have had MS for 30 years and can walk a very short distance but use an electric wheelchair out of doors. My wife and I booked a 5 night stay in the village accommodation - staying in the accessible room in the Dome. Portmeirion is very steep in places so using an electric wheelchair was necessary. We made full use of the village transport to get to the castle or hotel for meals when using the manual wheelchair. Our room was accessible with a useful lobby area, a large wet room and spacious bedroom with a small kitchenette area with a fridge and sink for drinks etc. The view over the estuary was delightful and the room was quiet all the time.. The bathroom is always our main concern when staying away from home. The room needed a raised toilet or a raised toilet seat and safety bars on both sides (not just one). A fixed shower seat would have been very useful as my husband needs to sit to wash. There was a lot of areas not accessible at Portmeirion due to steps or narrow passage ways but the visit overall (during Covid-19) was relaxing and enjoyable.

Booked the Portmeirion hotel for one night , but on arrival to the hotel with our bags we were told to put are bags back in the car and follow the van to the village. Feeling very disappointed we carried our bags along a path which needed a good tidy up , to be told by the porter he had the wrong key and to wait for him (in the pouring rain) we eventually got into our room which turned out to be a attic conversion above a shop . Not what I was expecting As I had booked a hotel . The wall had coffee Staines , no bath and the shower had lots of black mould in the grouting . The room was unbearably hot and I had to resort to opening the front door to the room in the muddle if the night as we had no air conditioning. I was kept awake all night by what I think were the cooler fans from the shop below . And every time the next door room went to the toilet you could hear them wee 😳🤦♀️. We went down to the hotel to have a drink before our evening meal which we had booked , we walked around trying to figure out where we were to go and sit, 3 members of staff just walked passed so we sat down and eventually asked if we could have some drinks, and a very inexperienced waiter served us, no glasses were taken away . When called through for our dinner I asked where could I put my coat as we had walked down in the rain, the waiter told me to put it reception and follow him with our drinks to the dinning room . Which is fine but not the kind of service you expect from a luxury 4 star hotel. The food was fantastic, just a shame our welcome and service didn’t match up to it. At check out I expressed my disappointment to be told by who I believed to be the manager that she would knock two drinks off our bill as the shower was dirty , that was all she could do . An apology and concern that we hadn’t enjoyed our stay might have helped . I have written a email , but had no response , which leaves me further disappointed .
Overall the village and hotel look tired and need a good tidy up and painting . Most definitely not the luxury 4 star hotel it is advertising to be and I wouldn’t stay here again, very over priced for the room and service we had .

Nice room touches All of the reviews I’ve read have said it for me but there were some nice touches like sherry in the room, well stocked bathroom amenities – soap, conditioner, cotton buds, robes, slippers etc. something which is disappearing in some hotels. Iron & board, Portmeirion umbrella’s (£10), tea & coffee. Good WiFi over the whole site.
Breakfast If you stay B&B you are offered a full Welsh breakfast on the website but, they sell themselves a bit short because there is a full breakfast menu to choose from – something for everyone, including kippers! I had the full breakfast. Mmmmm.
Different rooms If you’re staying more than one night, consider staying in different rooms. Originally we had booked the hotel for one night but decided to stay another. Unfortunately, the hotel was not available and were offered a room in the village. This worked out a treat. The first night was spent in cliff house No2 overlooking the estuary, the 2nd night in the hotel so we had the best of both worlds.
Staff. You can have the best hotel in the world but the staff can make or break it. From the moment we had a friendly chat with the gentleman on the entrance gate to all of the staff we came across it was a joy. All the staff made us feel special without going over the top. We had an overwhelming feeling that each staff member wanted us to have a great time while we were there and nothing was too much trouble. By the second day some staff members had learnt our names and greeted us. Nice touch.
Special mentions have to go to Gwawr on the hotel front desk, first impressions and help in this industry make all the difference. Head waiter in the hotel Tommy, who was always attentive to everyone and hotel waiter Morgan, who made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble, remember the mojito?

As a last minute (eg we were driving from Chester the scenic route home) we decided to stay the night in Portmeirion. Carrying a weighty price in excess of £230 a night, we were reassured by the positive reviews. We were wrong. The staff were fantastic, the views were stunning even on the overcast day we stayed and the breakfast was filling. I would also like to say that the hotel was very thorough on implementing COVID guidelines and was very impressed with this. The breakfast lived up to the others reviews on this site, however if you walked in off the street they claim breakfast would cost £25 per person, it wouldn't be worth this however as included with the room its very good. its all sounding good isnt it? ill even say the reception for the hotel was welcoming and clean. This is the end of anything positive I have to say of the hotel
We stayed in room 9. Yes yes yes they are trying to create a quaint, bla bla blah. The room was dirty, tired, worn out. the bed was awful. I have pictures which im in two minds whether to upload to this site. The bathroom - years and years of grouting over old/dirty grout. Orange mould around the taps and shower ( mind you the shower was very powerful), cracked tiles on the floor, rusty rusty shower rail, awful paint trying to hide the problems. Out the bathroom window there was the fire escape ( no problems there - it has to go somewhere) and a jungle of brambles up against the window. The carpet in the room was tired/worn. At £230 a night a nice stick of instant coffee - a coffee bag or two wouldn't go a miss. I could hear the room next door snoring, and all the chairs being dragged around downstairs.
I have more to say but is it really going to change anything. I welcome a response from the hotel, but i doubt they care

Stay for three nights in Salutation 1, on the winter blues offer. My wife and I have been going to Portmeirion for more than 20 years and have always loved our visits. This was no exception and I chose to write this after reading a number of unflattering and negative reviews. Salutation 1 and 2 are situated over the Ship Shop right in the heart of the village. 1 is slightly smaller than 2 but has windows in both bathroom and bedroom. Comes with a full sized fridge (no freezer), kettle (tea/coffee/milk supplied), ironing board and iron and a free bottle of wine on arrival. The building is old and listed so windows tend to steam up and it isn't state of the art. WiFi worked well, tv reception was great but poor mobile network on my EE or wife's O2 phones in the room. Some of the rooms have steps or are difficult to access so let hotel know in advance of any mobility issues you have. We walked to and from the hotel but there is a free pickup service available. Breakfast is continental style with the rest cooked to order. The kippers were great and my wife loved her eggs Benedict and smashed avocado. There are plenty of staff all of whom were a credit to the hotel. We ate dinner twice in the hotel and once at Castell Deudraeth (CD). All three meals were high quality, with great local ingredients and cooked to perfection. CD has a more contemporary feel and the portions are slightly larger. The Hotel is artdeco in style and has views over the estuary. The wine list was fairly extensive but as I didn't try any I can't vouch for the quality. I did try the Portmeirion draught cider and IPA. As a big cider fan I can thoroughly recommend it, dry, full bodied and not very fizzy. Be seeing you!

We stayed here for a 2 night stay with family in Lower & Upper Mermaid in the middle of the village, on the midweek offer. We had bed , breakfast and evening meals for both nights included in the price, with a bottle of wine included on arrival. This was exceptional value for the quality of the accomodation and the standard of food. We ate in the hotel on the first night and in the castle on the second night, both equally as good as each other, both first class food & service.The breakfast is served in the hotel which again was excellent with stunning views over the estuary The village accomodation was lovely set in lovely grounds with outstanding views.
Everything at Portmerrion is worth the stay and visit to this magical little village and all the special little touches and the lengths the staff go to, to make this a special stay , even down to a complimentary decanter of sherry that is topped up daily as a nightcap.
You also can call reception who will call a porter with transport up to the castle or down to the hotel if you have any mobility issues , everything has been carefully thought out to make your stay perfect.
We would highly recommend Portmerrion and hope to visit again.

Well done by the staff and an management team; and excellent job! I was indeed impressed with all aspect of this hotel over a four night stay. Food was delicious, the accommodation in the main building was great. We had a large traditional room, with a moulded fireplace overhung by a giant gilt mirror, that was in wonderful keeping with Portmeirion's style. The dining room is a delight, decorated by Conran. The outdoor pool is heated to a wonderful temperature, and there is constant attention to ensure no leaves are in the water.

If you are visiting North Wales and can afford a few days at this wonderful location, do book a room or suite at Portmeirion. It's a wonderful place just to visit for the day but staying in the Hotel or Castle or in a Village Room clearly enhances your enjoyment of this amazing village. The quality of the food is excellent, the service exemplary and most rooms well equipped and comfortable. We have stayed here several times now and would have no hesitation in returning - but do speak to the staff on their booking line so you ensure you reserve a room that clearly suites all of your needs rather than just booking on-line. The winter bargain prices certainly represent the best value - in late January and February. Don't worry about the weather! There is so much to enjoy!

I believe if you're staying in the self catering apartments, Hotel Portmeirrion or Castle Deudrath you can dine in either restaurant and if the weather is inclement there is a complimentary buggy service to take you their so that you arrive looking presentable. Great any weather if you're wearing high heals. I'm not sure about the pool but as that is only open for a small part of the year and is outdoors it may be busy, best to ask at reception when there or ring 01766 770000

The castle is not in the village but I would highly recommend they go to the hotel in the village for dinner at least one night as the village is really pretty at night but only open to residents/guests. There is a courtesy mini moke to take them there and can be booked in advance.
There are more places to choose from in the Portmeirion area.
