Big Cypress Lodge has earned accolades for its spotless rooms and well-maintained ambiance, with guests often highlighting the hotel's clean environment. The rooms are spacious and offer a unique theme, although some guests have mentioned issues with noise and cleanliness, along with occasional booking problems. The amenities, including diverse dining options and activities like bowling, are frequently praised, as is the cozy, festive atmosphere of the lodge. However, the value is a point of contention for many travelers, who have called out the high cost of breakfast and parking. The location is a hit, thanks to its convenience to nearby attractions. Guest experiences with the service have been mixed, ranging from friendly to unresponsive.

We had a great stay at Big Cypress Lodge. Our room featured a screened in porch that over looked the Bass Pro store below. We loved the cabin feel of the room, it really didn’t feel like a hotel room. The staff was very friendly and we had the sweetest bellhop delivery us to our room. Jeffery shared the features of our rooms with us, information about the restaurants inside the pyramid, and answered any questions we may have had. Our girls loved that we could ride the elevator to the top of the pyramid with the wrist bands given to us upon check in and the big jet tub in our bathroom. This stay is one for the memory books!

If you are an outdoorsman then this is your Vegas Pyramid. It's gonna cost a few extra pennies to stay here, but it is worth every one of those pennies. The thing that impressed me the most was the hospitalities. We had a private shuttle take us anywhere within 3 miles of the lodge, and there a tons of things to do within 3 miles of the lodge. I now call Willie a friend. Willie picked us up right at the end of the shuttle service time (7am to 10pm), we wanted to get some adult drinks for our room, he took us to a store to purchase some. Thank you Willie.

Spent a wonderful 3 days at Big Cypress Lodge celebrating our anniversary. The room was one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in many hotels/resorts. All of the staff were very courteous, pleasant and helpful. We used the shuttle to/from Beale Street and Alicia/Jeffrey were both personable and outstanding representatives of the Lodge. The food was excellent too!! We ate at both the Lookout and Wahlburgers...great food!

Our stay at Big Cedar Lodge had its highlights but was ultimately underwhelming given the price and expectations.

Check-In Experience

The check-in process was frustrating. The entrance for hotel guests was not clearly marked, and sharing the entrance with shoppers made unloading and using the valet chaotic. The front desk agent was unfriendly and seemed unsure of the check-in process. While we waited, other guests who arrived after us received their room keys and information packets promptly, suggesting theirs were prepared in advance while ours were not. Additionally, we received no introduction to the property or details on restaurants, bars, or amenities, nor any recommendations for dining or attractions nearby.

Dining & Bar Experience

Our first stop was the 3rd-floor bar, which was unattended when we arrived. After waiting about five minutes, the bartender returned, but we were never given a bill for our drinks. It was unclear whether they were complimentary, so we simply tipped and left.

Dinner at The Lookout Restaurant was a highlight. Our server, Alan, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food was delicious, though the experience was somewhat disrupted by patrons passing through the dining area to access the lookout.

Later that night, we returned to the 3rd-floor bar, where the bartender immediately accused us of not paying our earlier tab. While she was correct, the issue stemmed from the fact that she never told us the amount due. Despite this awkward exchange, she was otherwise pleasant and enjoyable to chat with.

The following day, we stopped by Wahlburgers for an appetizer and drinks. The bartender was friendly and attentive, but my Old Fashioned was underwhelming, especially considering the price. A classic cocktail like that shouldn’t be made with maraschino cherries. Afterward, I attempted to order a Space Dust IPA, but the staff seemed confused. The person I first asked didn’t speak English, and after waiting several minutes, another server informed me they were out of it.

Dinner at The Lookout on our second night was disappointing. I ordered ribs and requested a sweet potato as a side, only to be told that it wasn’t even offered on Sundays. To make matters worse, they were out of nearly all sides except mashed potatoes and spinach. The table behind us had a similar experience, with so many items unavailable that they considered leaving to eat elsewhere.

Room & Amenities

The room itself was clean, as advertised, and the king bed was very comfortable. However, for a resort at this price point, I expected a more premium experience overall. Small inconveniences, like an empty drink vending machine when we wanted cocktails in our room, added to the frustration.

Final Thoughts

The staff, for the most part, were friendly and helpful, with the exception of the check-in agent. The dining experiences were hit-or-miss, with great service from Alan at The Lookout but poor organization in both restaurants. The rooms were comfortable and well-maintained, but the lack of polish in service and amenities did not match the cost of the stay.

Would I return? Maybe, but only with adjusted expectations. For the price, I anticipated a smoother, more refined experience.

We stayed at the Big Cypress Lodge and dined at Wahlburger Wild, but unfortunately, our overall experience was disappointing. We had high hopes, as this was a planned stop on our cross-country trip, but it didn’t live up to the hype.

While our room was beautiful, everything else left much to be desired. The elevator ride to the top was fine, but the view was mostly of the parking lot, which was underwhelming.

The food and service at Wahlburger Wild were especially disappointing. We paid $15 for an overcooked burger with no sides, and despite spending $100, we left the restaurant still hungry. The prices were high, but the quality simply didn’t match. They should also remove the Wild! And all signs talking about the bison and venison. The regular Walhburgers menu is the only option with no Wild offerings.

Another frustration was the lack of food options. Unless you manage to get a reservation at the restaurant upstairs, your only choices are limited to Wahlburgers or room service from the same place, which didn’t leave us eager to order again.

Getting assistance from the front desk was also a challenge. Every time we called, we were put on hold, and it felt like a gamble whether anyone would come back to the call.

We stayed in an ADA room, which was spacious and generally well-designed. However, there were no accessible power outlets near the beds for medical equipment, except on one side where the equipment would have to sit on the floor. This made things inconvenient and difficult for anyone needing accessibility features.

For the Bass Pro itself, it seemed smaller than any other bass pro we’ve been to. Asking anyone for help was pulling teeth because the only answer workers seem to know is “I don’t know”

Firstly I'd like to say that we love Bass Pro, we've been to many of the wonderful stores and always visit one when we're in North America.

That said, I'm sad to say that I wouldn't recommend staying here. The setup is great, the rooms are amazing and the view is exceptional but the management is the worst I've ever experienced in a hotel:

Feedback:

1) Front desk: Staff are disinterested, didn't even know what times the store opened and shut, wearing airpods while working and talking to customers, bizarre when the staff in the store just yards away as so good!!!

2) Rooms near the bar were very noisy due to a crowd in the bar, if you're in a bar then you're entitled to enjoy yourselves and make noise but the rooms should either have sound proofing or not be used, not telling us when we checked in is ridiculous but sadly not surprising. When we called down to reception we were informed the bar would be closing shortly, an hour later the party was still in full flow at midnight.

3) No blanket on the bed and a leaking toilet, reported to reception and nothing done about it, not that I was surprised but still very disappointed.

4) Valet parking was great, the guys on the desk couldn't have been more helpful, when we mentioned some of the issues we'd encountered they remained professional but rolled their eyes in a knowing way.

5) When we checked out we spoke to the manager (who was also wearing airpods and an off brand baggy hoodie) she agreed with everything we had to say but didn't grasp that none of these issue are acceptable and easily resolvable.

6) Offered a $100 refund per couple which unsurprising has yet to be returned to my credit card.

Conclusion, keep the love for Bass Pro, it's an amazing store and the flagship in Memphis is a wonder to behold. But never ever stay here! You'll only be disappointed and it really shouldn't be a reflection on the store.

Senior management please fix these issues, we all love Bass Pro and you're damaging my favourite store in the world! I travelled from the U.K. and we spent $2000 in the store and $2000 on the stay and went away feeling really sad. Not just for me but for the people who will come here with the same excitement only for it to be dampened by easily fixable issues.

Come on Bass Pro, please please please sort it out!!!

First time here on a timeshare presentation. This place is very unique and a real treat! Enjoyed the restaurants, shopping, views, room very friendly, polite employees ready to make things right. There was a few bumps but hope to get it straighten out with the time share stay. I’m hopeful. A lot of money, planning and reconstruction went into this resort. I enjoyed reading and exploring the exhibits and stores inside the hotel. The elevator ride to the top was very nice as well as the restaurant. I have to mention this place is pricey but a lot goes into it. I give it an 8 for cleanliness. 10 for customer service, prices an 7 but it is Bass Pro. Our room could has been cleaner by my standards of dusting, vacuuming the carpet and cleaning the bathroom floor. The room was well stocked and provided bathrobes. We had an excellent view to the inside of the store. However, I think it needs to be re-evaluated about the family area when couples have their rooms right there. It was noisy and loud late into the night with kids and adults playing with their children when we are starting to sleep. One night it went on till 12am. Perhaps couples traveling with no children should be placed in a more quiet part of the hotel. If I had paid for this without the timeshare presentation I would had been highly upset. It was a very nice hotel and we did enjoy ourselves very much.

This place is downright amazing! My husband is a very serious fisherman, and I'm serious about relaxation. We spent 3 nights over our anniversary (Dec 2-5) and he combed the Bass Pro Shop while I slept and enjoyed the atmosphere of this incredible room. The tub and shower were over the top and we loved the fireplace. The friendly, professional staff made our visit one to remember. They were so warm and friendly at the front desk and on our floor. The bartender made us feel right at home. I cannot say enough about this place. Something for everyone. The price is so worth it!!

Room was beautiful and large. We had an interior room which overlooked the Bass Pro shop. Had 2 restaurants and a bowling alley in the building. Also has a lounge area with bar in the hotel. The hotel staff was friendly upon checkin. The rooms had complimentary snacks and waters. We had a king room that was very clean. The bathroom had a glass shower with a rainfall shower head and a separate garden spa tub with jets. The bed was super comfortable. I cannot say enough good stuff about the hotel. Now, if there is anything that I could complain about it would be the shuttle service and the hotel entrance. The entrance is the same entrance as the Bass Pro store. This makes it extremely busy and hard to get your luggage out of the car. You have so many people walking in and out of the entrance you feel rushed and crowded. Also the shuttle service needs to be re-worked. I think it would be a much better system to have drop off points around the city instead of bringing you to your destination. Too many people trying to use the service and they are driving small suv instead of buses. The buses would make more sense to carry so many people. We ended up using an Uber instead. It was much easier and quicker.

When a teen, who is indifferent to almost everything on your trip, says "that's cool" - well, you book a hotel room in a pyramid. It lived up to his expectations. Our room overlooked the retail store. The room itself was very clean, decorated tastefully as a cabin and we really enjoyed the balcony and the complimentary snacks. We were intrigued by the light fixtures in the bathroom. The walls are a little thin, but the room and beds were so comfortable we slept later than normal.

The people who worked at the lodge were awesome. They were helpful and friendly. The shuttle driver was great!

Drawbacks? Two cocktails and a mocktail were $31 at the hotel bar and there was a guest who had way too much to drink. It would also be nice to have some sort of breakfast available on site.

Not sure about a shuttle but we drove there and it was easy to get there and was only about a 15 minute drive. If you don’t have a car perhaps you could get a ride share to take you.
