We stayed in the James Lee Room. Our host Stacee was exceptional She lives in the house and therefore is able to quickly respond to any questions you may have There is not much to say about the room and the accompanying bathroom except wow. The bed was an adjustable Tempur-pedic and the bathroom was the size of the master bedroom in my first home. The shower sports three shower-heads and there is a soaking bathtub, a large double sink and vanity. It is just plain beautiful. Our bedroom was furnished with comfortable seating. But this five star rating comes with a couple of caveats If you are expecting a 1800 furnishings, this is not the place. However it is elegant furnished as you can see in the pictures. There is no refrigerator in the room and there is no information about what to do in Memphis or where to eat available although the breakfasts were elegant They were not substantial see pics. Be aware the mansion is located close to downtown and in the neighborhood of several other famous mansions but once you get out of that one block area the neighborhood is dicey. That being said we felt extremely safe with in the mansion and on the grounds and our car was in a very safe gated location

I have not stayed at any B&B’s before the James Lee House, however I can say that this location provided an incredible experience. A friend and I travelled to Memphis for a milestone birthday and stayed at the historic James Lee House. Located on “Millionaire’s Row” in the Victorian Village, this house provides an amazing look into the style of the mid 1800’s. The house itself is beautifully restored with modern amenities in each room (the shower was life changing).
Jose and Jennifer are both welcoming and accommodating. For my friend’s birthday, we ordered a custom cake and were able to have the cake delivered to the hotel and held until our dinner reservations. I’m still not convinced that they are both classically trained chefs. The breakfasts were beyond delicious! Thank you both so much, Jose and Jennifer, we had a blast and hope to visit again!

This is a beautifully restored Victorian house with lots of character and modern amenities. We never felt unsafe and there is plenty of gated parking for guests onsite. The innkeeper was very welcoming and friendly. The inn is well-maintained and extremely clean. Because of the historic nature of the house there is no elevator so there are a number of stairs to get to all the suites except for one that is located on the ground floor. Our room and bathroom were spacious, bed was comfortable, water pressure was good and linens were pristine. Housekeeping was only upon request to change the towels and empty the trash. Some communication with innkeeper was through texting. Just an FYI that there is no mini-refrigerator in the room, no safe, and no landline. There are plenty of outlets for charging cell phones next to the bed though. Breakfast was by appointment and the hot served breakfast was made to order and tasty. Other than the daily breakfast there were no other "extras" such as snacks/cookies or bottled water/beverages offered during our stay (these are often amenities provided at other B & Bs). The inn is in a convenient location but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Beale Street approximately a mile or so away and Graceland is only a 15-minute drive. When we drove by the Peabody we were glad we had chosen the James Lee House instead. Our suggestions would be to provide bottled water in the room and have some written information available on emergency procedures and the surrounding area.

My girlfriend and I stayed (3) nights in this wonderful B & B. From the start, the hosts/owners were polite and comforting. The consistent detail and charm throughout the entire multi-story structure made the stay feel like a step back in time. The grounds were well-kept and off street parking was provided in a gated parking lot. In my opinion, the vision of the owners is what truly makes this architectural masterpiece stand out from other B & Bs. Thank you Jose, Jennifer and Stacy!

We stayed in the Isabel Suite and would highly recommend the James Lee House. The facilities are absolutely stunning and spotlessly clean - the owners have decorated the house to a really high standard (what an amazing bathroom!). Stacee was an incredible host, from delicious breakfasts to great recommendations for places to visit and eat whilst in Memphis. She continuously provided thoughtful touches throughout our stay. The house is in a fab location with secure parking away from the hustle and bustle of central Downtown Memphis, but it is still close enough to walk or get an Uber (5-10 mins from Beale Street). We had a lovely time - thank you so much, Stacee!

This House is absolutely incredible! My fiancé and I stayed in the isabelle suite. It was beautiful, spacious, and the bathroom was very elegant with modern fixtures such as a rain shower head as well as a traditional shower head for your choice. Stacee was so amazing and accommodating while giving us the freedom to use the public spaces and amenities. She also cooked us a delicious breakfast the following morning. I highly recommend the James Lee House to anyone visiting Memphis or to Memphis residents, such as myself, if you want a beautiful staycation. The house and it’s history is present in every corner and it was a very special experience I will definitely never forget. Thank you again, Stacee!

First and foremost, Stacee was a wonderful hostess, and the breakfasts she prepared for us were wonderful. The house has been beautifully restored, the suite we stayed in was the Harsson, and it was very large in size and beautifully decorated. One of the reasons we chose that room was for the soaking tub, and it was a huge disappointment; the tub was difficult to work, and the water wasn't hot, nor was there enough even to come close to filling the tub, so that was a waste of time and frustrating. It is just as stated, a bed and breakfast, nothing more. That is where our expectations fell short. We have stayed in other B&Bs, and extra touches made the stay even better. We definitely expected those extra touches for the cost of the rooms at The James Lee House, but there were none. The types of things that we have experienced in other high-end B&Bs that were at an even lower price point were a reception in the late afternoon with beverages and snacks, a fridge stocked with sodas and snacks that we had access to, board games in the main room to use and we've stayed at a B&B that delivered fresh baked cookies to your door every night at 9 pm. The James Lee House had none of this, but at the high price point, it would be nice to have and made us feel the high price of the room was worth the cost. This was our experience and our expectations, and you may go and expect less and have an absolutely wonderful stay. For us, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze, and it will be a one-time stay for us. Hope this helps anyone looking to make an informed decision about staying there.

My husband and I talk about our stay at the James Lee House ALL THE TIME! It was definitely one of the most elegant, upscale, and enjoyable places we have ever stayed, and it made our anniversary (in 2016) extra special. So, when we realized that the review we thought we had left (in 2016) didn't post for some reason, we had to correct that ASAP. This place is what B&Bs should strive to be, and it has spoiled us forever. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Jose, and he was extremely friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed chatting with Jose and Jennifer about the history of the property, the steps they took to restore it, and how much they love what they do. They were ready with recommendations for daytime activities, restaurants, and must-sees. Our room was incredible. The shower and bathroom is what marble dreams are made of. Everything was monogrammed, from the robes to the coasters to the napkins (these by hand by one of their moms if I remember correctly). It's this kind of attention to detail that makes this place so unforgettable - here I am, leaving a review in the middle of the night 4 years after our stay. The cherry on top was the delicious, fresh breakfast, which included homemade breads, pastries, preserves, and anything else you could think of. We recommend the James Lee House and its wonderful owners to anyone who will listen. The photos speak for themselves, and we will definitely be returning the first chance we get.

Set in a truncated row of Victorian mansions, The James Lee House is a destination in itself. And for those wanting to indulge in even more 19th century grandeur, the Woodruff-Fontaine House is just next door and open to visitors. It was very gratifying to tour the Woodruff-Fontaine and then to return “home” to our equally beautiful mansion next door.

Setting aside its neighbours for a moment, the location of the James Lee is fairly central but getting to Downtown requires a short drive or taxi ride. However, Sun Studio is an easy walk away. The local area felt quite safe. We waited outside of the house on numerous occasions for taxis to pick us up, and never felt in any danger.

Finally, I can only reiterate other contributors’ comments regarding our wonderful host – and breakfast chef extraordinaire – Stacee.

Thank you! We appreciate your kind words. We love our Victorian Village location and all our neighbors. Guests do enjoy walking to visit Sun Studio, where Elvis first recorded and The Edge Motor Museum, where you can appreciate the true art of vintage cars. And being just a 4-minute drive from downtown allows our guests to enjoy the best of both worlds, from the bustle of Beale Street to our quiet courtyard and fountain. We hope you'll visit us again.

The James Lee House is stunning. A gem of history in modern times. The rooms are carefully curated to provide modern amenities while preserving the history and atmosphere of the house. The breakfast is top-notch and delicious. Stacee is a wonderful hostess, eager to meet your needs and desires. We wanted a lovely relaxing weekend away to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and the James Lee House fit the bill.
