Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived at Gowanlea for an overnight stay, following a rather treacherous drive through flooded roads from further North, and could not have asked for a warmer or freindly reception. On arrival we were offered a cup of tea even before we had been shown to our room.
The room was beautifully decorated and very clean, which was much appreciared as due to the awful weather we spent most of our stay in there, however, there was a large roomy guest living room also at our disposal if required. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners who appear happy to be your beck and call whenever required to ensure you have a great stay.
After a good nights sleep, our made to order breakfast was also exceptional setting us up for our onward journey.
This is a wonderful guest house, run by gorgeous people in a lovely part of the world and we will definately be reurning next time we're heading up through Scotland

This place is a must stay even more so if your a per lover. Andrea goes out her way to make your stay as special as possible. From the arrival to the exit she cannot do enough for you. If you have a pet they are allowed to stay, and they are also made to feel at home even getting some breakfast. The place is very quite and well looked after. Everything you need is here. We cannot fault the place and would highly recommend it. Not many nice places allow pets, but even if you don’t have pets the place is spotless and worthy of a good nights stay. Having ex veteran friends who live in Balloch we will be back here that’s for sure. I will recommend this place on all my veteran forums. The breakfast was amazing and full of good quality item. Everything cooked to perfection. Tea, Coffee orange juice all delicious.

This is a must stay place.

Just returned a week ago from the most perfect stay in Loch Lomond. The hosts are truly the most welcoming hosts we have come across anywhere in the world never mind the UK Your needs are so very important to them especially with all the changes going on with the virus at the moment. They made us feel so very safe and they had thought of everything but still had the lovely homely feel nothing clinical. Now the breakfasts ... WOW WOW WOW great choice beautifully cooked and beautifully presented . The bedrooms are very comfortable and had great night sleeps . Everything we needed was provided but if something was missing you would just have to ask and that would be sorted . The location is great just a couple of minutes stroll to the water and pubs etc. I can't go on enough how lovely our stay was in this lovely guest house but mainly it is down to the lovely hospitality shown from the owners. We will definitely return . Thank you Gowanlea.

Mum and I stayed at Gowanlea for one night at the start of a cycling holiday. We were welcomed with open arms and made to feel very much at home. It is clear that a lot of effort and thought has been put in to ensuring all the covid measures are adhered to...and it has paid off! The room was large and had a big window which was great for people watching. Breakfast is table service and you ordered the evening before which made for a very efficient service in the morning.
The hotel is decorated immaculately; the dining room chairs and wall paper are just fab!
A lovely place to stay and one I would recommend to anybody visiting the area.

I was lucky enough to stay here for one night and found it to be the best value for money accommodation I’ve ever stayed in the UK. From the moment I arrived Andrea made me feel welcome and was great with recommendations. The bedroom itself was lovely as was the bathroom and the breakfast was top class. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

My boyfriend and I visited for two nights in January. The service was second to none we were welcomed with a warm smile, tea and biscuits that suited dietary requirements.
The location is perfect with safe parking available.

The room was gorgeous, absolutely spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and lots of space.

The breakfast ordering the night before was excellent with a fantastic range of choice, cooked to perfection.

We loved everything about our stay and cannot wait to come visit again! Absolutely fabulous from start to finish.

I was made very welcome on arrival, with a cup of tea and shortbread as well. The offer of a 'breakfast bag' as I was leaving early the next morning was also appreciated. The room was comfy and I would definitely recommend Gowanlea.

The room was immaculate. The bed firm, pillows comfortable, blinds stopped early morning wake ups. The bathroom is even cleaner - if that's even possible. The breakfast is perfecting on a plate. Great quality ingredients cooked with care, served with unparalleled hospitality. A wonderful stay in a lovely location.

Was welcomed by John the owner who was the perfect host, showed us to our rooms that were clean, tidy and the bed was so comfy! John then made us a fresh pot of tea and made us feel like we were “at home”. The breakfast was well cooked and plenty.

I would highly recommend this place to stay if you are visiting the area.

Thank you John

Matthew
