A warm welcome and some delicious food framed a fabulous dinner at the Kingarth Hotel. We were last here in February 2018 and were delighted to see that is has recently re-opened with enormous care and attention to detail.
The sea bass and macaroni cheese were delicious; but it is the warmth of the service from Maria and John which made the evening exceptional.

Excellent meal at Kingarth, good service for a well organised staff, with the covid policy being obeyed by staff and customers.
The chef deserves a mention for his perfectly cooked hake which came with a very tasty dressing and roasted vegetables.
On a previous visit the pizza was the best I had tasted since a trip to Italy several years ago.
Best food on Bute by a long way.

My family that visited and stayed within the Courtyard overnight at the rear of the Kingarth Hotel for the gender reveal consisted of 4 adults, 1 child (12 yrs) 2 X toddlers ( 3yrs, 2yrs) plus 2 daft collie dogs.

The Courtyard was very modern, spacious and clean with fantastic views and horses to view from the bedroom windows which were great for our toddlers.
We loved our stay over, and nothing was an effort for lovely Maria and her staff.
The weather was wild but we were very cosy in the Courtyard. The double bed that my husband and I slept in was luxuriously dream. By luxurious, I mean proper soft and clean coverings, a deep mattress which was like a big fluffy cloud.
Even though the weather was wild and the rain battered down the Rothesay views were still beautiful and far reaching.

We highly recommend The Kingarth. Many Thanks from The Kerr Family, Ayrshire xox

I stopped in for what I thought would be a quick drink and snack break on my cycle run yesterday, after being instructed upon arrival to the bar that it was table service only I placed an initial order which came out promptly, no problems there. I decided to follow this up with a secondary order of at my table which took 25 minutes to arrive, and queried the status of this order with 2 separate members of serving staff during this time. When this eventually arrived and I consumed it I asked to make payment (bearing in mind I had previously been instructed to remain at the table and not approach the bar) I waited no less than half an hour extra. During this half an hour I attempted to remind no less than 3 members of waiting staff that I was looking to simply pay up and leave the table. In the end I gave up waiting as I was being fobbed off with excuses from each member of staff and paid my bill at the bar and left. The concern for me was that whilst I was struggling to leave the 3 members of staff were fawning over the holidaymakers at the next table who had clearly ordered a fairly large meal order, my overall feeling was that I was being ignored by the staff and that my requirements were being de-prioritised by them over the larger value order at the next table. As such I was very disappointed with the service I received at Kingarth yesterday and what I intended to be a quick drink and rest on my cycle turned into an hour and a half of frustration.

Went with family to celebrate my wife's birthday. My wife and I ordered steaks which were advertised as "sourced locally" they might have been from the local Co-op but not the excellent butchers (McQueens).
The steak was garnished with 2 mushrooms cut in half, four tiny tomatoes on the vine, a handful of chips and the smallest portion of "out the packet" peppered sause (smaller than a shot glass).
The steaks were tough, chewy and tasteless without enough sauce to try and add flavour.
The others seemed quite happy with their fish and chips, which looked nice and a burger, also looked nice.
On the plus side, the staff are very friendly and polite so, overall a good experience but just don't order a steak.
Finally, the decor is more like a village hall with 70's cladding and overly bright lights highlighted off the bright yellow paint so the place could do with some dimmer switches and painting.

I have visited a few times since it reopened, food is ok, service could do with some tweaking (clearing plates, empty glasses, asking if meal is ok etc) but I feel it is a little overpriced for what it is. The past two times I have struggled with something to order from their specials but can always rely on their “normal menu” for a steak, this wasn’t the case during the Easter weekend sadly which I would have appreciated being communicated when making the booking. This place has great potential but is sadly lacking in areas and the prices feel too high for the standard being served.

It is stated on the menu that they do not read reviews and would prefer direct communication - if this is the case perhaps having comment cards would be an idea? Not everyone is comfortable having that conversation but the hotel seems to invite feedback.

Friendly staff, great location and good value food and drinks. A lovely end to a day at the bay. The bus stops right nearby if you are not arriving by car, and you can stop at Mount Stuart on the way there or back. Lovely.

Off putting eating food in a carpeted dining area with huge dogs wandering around, barking. Their owners seem oblivious to other diners feeling uncomfortable. Dogs should be kept outside. The meals are "alright " but could be so much better with small adjustments ie. Hot plates, larger portions of vegetables and potatoes and more choice. The staff are extremely helpful and polite. The Manageress looks like she doesn't want to be there. Could be better.

Had lunch at this hotel today and what can I say? Not too great. Arrived, couple of menus handed to us, no mention of special on the board so, missed them. Got a Nachos starter,a bag if crisps with some melted cheese, sour cream, jalapeño and some hot sauce, absolutely and utterly dreadful. Main meal took forever to come and when it did come it was mediocre. Glass of wine £9.00, total rip off. Trying to re coupe monies that have been lost due to Covid. Got a poor excuse for an appology when asked if all was OK as I was paying at the bar. No one came and asked if the food was OK at my time and I had to clear my plates from my own table after the starter as they had not come to take them away. Expensive food for a one star restaurant.

The Kingarth has been closed for quite a while after the tragic passing of the previous owner. We had come to Bute for an overnight stay and happened to drive past on Saturday, to our surprise it had opened that very day, under new management. We ended up going back for our evening meal. The bar and restaurant were very busy, but the new staff coped perfectly. Service was attentive, food was good and the atmosphere great - there were several local families in and lots of chat going on. The Kingarth has a long history of great hospitality and based on their first night the new folk are going to keep up the high standard.
