We just had a meal here so can't comment on accommodation. We thought the food was good. Nothing fancy but wholesome good food. Waitresses we had were really nice and friendly and I thought our meal, service and price was great value.

We went in to see about a room but decided not to stay. However, we went back for our evening meal and can't really complain. Nice dinning area, pleasant service and tasty food. I really enjoyed my dinner and would probably go back. My friends chips weren't very nice but the rest of the meal was fine. All in all, typical experience.

We planned a trip to Scotland for this week, from Canada, to scatter my father’s ashes. He grew up in Rothesay. We booked 2 rooms (through Expedia) to include my cousin who was coming to join us from Airdrie. Obviously due to Covid we cannot make this trip and have had to cancel all our bookings. This hotel is charging us £74 per room to cancel, the same cost of the rooms. So NO cancellation policy for a trip we are unable to take. When we actually get to travel, we definitely would never rebook with this hotel!

One waitress told us the wrong prices at the start of the ordering of dinners. At the end we queried the bill to be greeted by Angela who was very rude and unprofessional. Found it hard to believe her member of staff had given out wrong information. 7 adults within our group of people heard the prices Abigail had said at the start. Angela then had a stand on arguement with 2 adult within our party and was very abrupt thoughout. Food was also slightly warm. Drink glasses were also dirty.

We found it difficult to find a place to eat in Rothesay, which is obviouslysadly suffering from declining tourist numbers. Since the Victoria Hotel's kitchen was out of action, we were directed to the Esplanade which was being well patronised that evening. Waitress Abigail found a table for us in the busy restaurant and looked after us very attentively. We had a memorable meal at very reasonable prices. The haggis stuffed chicken dish was better than one recently eaten at a Michelin starred restaurant! Angela very kindly allowed us to move to the window table for sweets where we had a great view of the harbour. Would highly recommend this restaurant! Thank you Abigail and Angela for your excellent service and to the chef for a delicious meal,

My partner booked a table at the Esplanade for my birthday. The waitress was very welcoming and helpful. We had a table with a great sea view over the harbour. We both ordered steak dinners which did not tasted disgusting. The steak was full of fat and grizzle with some parts too tough to chew. The baked potatoes, garlic bread and onion rings were undercooked. This is one of the worst meals I have ever had and will not be returning.

An old school experience with world class food . Always an enchanted experience with friendly service and a chef (Craig) that’s been there for 100s of years . We always eat there when on the island and last week had the scallops to start , the steam pie and the sticky toffee pudding . Having eaten in some of the world’s posher 1 m-star establishments , I, for sure , prefer the food at the Esplanade . The table looking down to the ferry port is always my fave and it’s where we were seated last Friday .
