Detailed Reviews

We arrived in Loch Roag guesthouse by luck… late planning of our Scottish journey made the availability of the room more than challenging. However in this guesthouse there was a family suite just renewed not on the website… so available for us. We stayed there 4 nights and the children were very sad to leave this place.
Then it was perfect : the suite has 3 very nice bedrooms and a living room. Beds are comfortable and the location / view is beautiful.
The hosts are very warm and helpful.
Lewis is unforgettable… and this place too.

The hosts are wonderful people. They were so helpful with any concern we had. They took the time to go over the map with us and sites to see. Loved the breakfasts and dinners as well. Delicious soups! The views were lovely all around us. The location was great. Convenient to travel north and south on the Isle of Lewis. My guess is that as the business grows they will continue work on remodeling the bedrooms. Very happy that we stayed here!

Great breakfast and dinners here. We very much enjoyed the soups here as starters. Citrus haddock was delicious. Grilled salmon with hollandaise sauce was delicious! Staff super helpful and friendly. Would stay here again!

We stayed 1 night in one of the Loch Roag upstairs rooms. It was clean and tidy, the bed was comfortable with nice linen and towels. The shower was also fine. However, that's about as positive as we can be. Breakfast was average; there were no baked beans, mushrooms or pastries, and a very limited selection of fresh fruit. Pictures for sale in the breakfast room looked faded and certainly the price tags in the corners were very faded. There was a general lounge area without a TV. Unfortunately, our room, and the property in general, was very tired and dated and in need of an overhaul. For the price we paid, we were expecting something more top notch. We have been touring the Outer Hebrides for just over a week, staying in B&Bs, and I'm afraid this was the mot expensive and the least value for money we stayed in.

As with everywhere we traveled in Scotland this summer, we were greeted with a warm welcome at Loch Roag Guest House. Our room was comfortable, the breakfasts were wonderful, the dinners delicious, and everyone treated us with friendliness and good humor. It was a great place for our base on the Isle of Lewis, which was an enchanting time for us traveling around this lovely island. We can't get back soon enough!

Three of us stayed in this guest house, staying in a double and a single room. The owner greeted us at the front door and showed us to our rooms. The rooms were very roomy and bright with lovely views across the Loch, and the comfiest beds of our (4 day) trip. Breakfast in the morning was particularly good, with all of us (including two vegetarians) going away happy with full stomachs.
We're already making plans to return...

On arrival half an hour early at 3.30 pm (we hadn't been told check in was after 4.00 pm) we had difficulty finding the accommodation as there's only a sign on the main road. No sign at the property and no sign of life with all the blinds firmly closed and a notice advising check in times. The cattle grid had grass growing through it and the place looked as if it wasn't lived in. The plastic flowers at the front door were so faded I think they're well past their use by date! I didn't ring the bell but the owner Donald must have spied us getting back in the car as he came out and offered to let us in - how kind! He showed us around the sitting room and dining room which looked pleasant enough so we were very disappointed to then be directed to the smallest double room I've every had the misfortune to spend time in. The folding door to the toilet was, because of the available space, very awkward to open/close. There was nowhere to lay anything and certainly not enough room to unpack. Donald then disappeared.
The bed was so small my husband elbowed me in the eye during the night and I nearly fell out twice - luckily the wall saved me! We asked if we could be moved the next day and were offered a larger double (Room 1) with good views unlike Room 5 which had a view over a roof and the car park. Sadly the avocado (1970's??) coloured bathroom and pine walls, toilet seat let this room down and the shower came out the ark! The water temperature varied so quickly that you were alternately frozen and almost scalded the next.
Dinner the first evening was OK but no marks for creativity or imagination and expensive at £25 a head for what we got.
Breakfast dismal. Anaemic scrambled egg slapped on the plate no garnish whatsoever to liven up the pale, shop bought eggs. Why can't you get fresh farm eggs? Are you not able to grow a pot of parsley or chives? Every piece of cutlery and crockery sticks to the plastic table covers which gives the impression that they and the crockery/cutlery isn't clean. Not good. Husband's black pudding, white pudding still had the plastic skin attached and he had to use his fingers to try and detach it before consumption. Really?! Nothing should be on a plate that isn't edible. The jam dishes looked as if they hadn't been refreshed for weeks.
So in summary most surprised to see other positive reviews which do not in any remote way match our experience of staying here. Won't be back ... ever!

Loch Roag offered everything we wanted: large bedroom with en suite bathroom, dinner on site, laundry, free parking, full on breakfast. We were not disappointed on all accounts. The staff is helpful and kind. The food is delicious and plentiful. The location is near the Callanish Stones, and many other sites on Lewis.

Like many houses in the Hebrides, it seems quite remote at first but that is part of the beauty of the islands. And after the first time we found it is actually very well situated quite near the Calanish Standing Stones. It is a very clean and comfortable house with very friendly and helpful staff who are always happy to take time to chat and talk about the area. We were made to feel very much at home. The room was big, with a good sized en suite. Bit of a problem with the hot water and the shower but not a major point.
Breakfast was always excellent. There was a lovely lively atmosphere about the place and the very comfortable lounge was a great place to meet and chat to other guests

Loch Roeg is situated in the perfect location for exploring Lewis and Harris. It is in the middle of the island and just a couple of miles away from the Callanish Stones. Donal and the other staff were very friendly and helpful. Although we arrived late on the first night, we were fitted in for dinner for which we were grateful as Lewis does not have an abundance of places to go to eat at. We had the large room on the ground floor with great views and a large bathroom. We had pretty stormy weather during our stay so we couldn't explore everything we wanted. When we return, we would definitely stay at Loch Roeg again.
