Marine Troon Hotel is often celebrated for its cleanliness and the luxurious touch following its recent renovations. Its prime location near the beach is a highlight for guests seeking scenic vistas and local activities. While the hotel's service receives mixed reviews, the staff is frequently commended for their friendliness and attentiveness.
The comfortable and beautifully adorned spaces contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, though there's room for improvement in some areas. Amenities, including spa and dining, are generally appreciated, but opinions on room quality and value for money vary among visitors.

Detailed Reviews
We had an overnight spa stay at The Marine Hotel on 2nd July.
Unfortunately we arrived a little harassed and very slightly late due to a work issue my partner was dealing with.
We were welcomed at reception by Lynne and Joan who put us right at ease. We’d called en route to explain that our spa appointments were at 15.30 hrs fortunately the reception girls notified the spa staff that we’d be a little late. Both ladies were friendly, thoughtful and efficient.
Our room was beautifully decorated and spacious though sadly our view was over a rather noisy kitchen or laundry area rather than a sea view…..maybe next to time!
My partner and l found the spa treatments to be very relaxing. We both opted for a back / shoulder massage and facial.
Both therapists, Kerry Ann and Danika, were friendly and knowledgeable about the products they use. The spa surroundings were very nice and clean. The whole spa experience was very relaxing.
Our dining experience was a bit mixed. One starter was served lukewarm. Our waiter misheard our request for sparkling water and gave us still. Unfortunately our bottle of white wine arrived warm. We eventually had the bottle replaced. The new bottle was placed in an ice bucket. Both our main courses were lukewarm and had to be sent back. However the Manager and another waiter dealt with things efficiently so the meal was saved.
Just one comment about the cheeseboard which at £12 could’ve been presented a bit more aesthetically pleasing. There were two cheeses, one blue cheese and one very large slab of mature cheddar. Perhaps a smaller portion of the cheddar and the addition of another couple of cheeses for variety along with some fruit and chutney would’ve made for a significantly better cheeseboard. It would also be a lot more appetising.
Overall we had a nice stay in this lovely hotel. The staff were very nice and friendly.
We hope to visit again soon.

I worked in the golf industry for over 40 years and traveled all over the world during this time, hotels are for me very an important component of my life. Now I’m retired hotels have become more personal and the choice is something I take very seriously.
This all brings me to a gem of a hotel I’ve passed by hundreds of time in my job and golfing life, it was always ‘Yon Big Red Hotel in Troon’ a way point for colleagues and friends, but when we were looking for an overnight stay in Troon we had no difficulty choosing the The Marine Troon, it has always represented those heady days of the popularity of the Ayrshire Coast in my mind.
So we booked, we stayed and we loved it, from the second we arrived I was in my element, next to the car park was a 50 yard long artificial putting green (brand new, just out the box). The reception staff were superb and looked after us so well, they upgraded us to a sea view room which smelled of new carpet and new wall paper.
We decided to go to the spa for a swim and a steam, it was busy as there was a children’s swimming teaching event on, this added to the enjoyment as the kids were the same age range of our grandchildren.
We booked lunch rather than dinner as we were very hungry from our travels and efforts in the pool. The Seal restaurant provided a great menu with something for everyone including vegans, not my taste but it all sounded lovely. The staff were very attentive and explained the food options and to us, I choose the Troon Burger and my wife had a coronation chicken option, this food was just great.
If you are coming to Scotland and are toiling over where to stay, book The Marine Hotel and Lawn, it overlooks the 1st and 18th of The Royal Troon Golf Club, they’ve hosted to 10 Open Championships here and greats such as Tom Watson, Tom Weiskopf and Arnold Palmer had wins here.
Steeped in history and now the hotel has been lovingly refurbished to better than its former glory it’s a must for travelers and golfers alike.

Stayed here in February 2023 as a surprise for my girlfriend’s birthday.
The lady at check in was lovely and couldn’t have been more hopeful. As part of the Winter Exclusive rate I was offered a complimentary upgrade to a Sea View room which offered lovely views over the Royal Troon Golf Course and The Firth of Clyde.
The room was quite small. I would have preferred it slightly bigger but it was beautifully presented and had everything we needed for a comfortable night’s sleep. The hotel staff even left a bag of tablet and a birthday card for my girlfriend which was very thoughtful. The bathroom had a decent shower and complimentary toiletries.
We had dinner in The Rabbit restaurant which was decent. Although my main course was cold, the waiter took it back and replaced it. He was very attentive and made sure we had an enjoyable time in the restaurant.
The pool/sauna/steam room/jacuzzi were all very pleasant to use. The lounging area around the pool was really peaceful as well.
Breakfast the next morning was very good and provided lots of options. The waiting staff were excellent as well.
My only complaint would be that our room was directly above the bar and could hear loud music into the night. We had phoned down to let the reception staff know. They had turned it down, but we had woken early the next morning and could hear it again. Apart from this complaint I really couldn’t fault the quality and comfort of the stay.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Ayrshire.

I travelled to Troon for a business meeting in Ayr on Tuesday morning.
The hotel caters for golfers predominantly and is conveniently located for the many links courses along the coast.
I booked the hotel for its leisure facilities which as recently renovated were very clean and well maintained.
I sat for dinner in the bar and was presented with a menu which I found restricted due to a diet I'm on by choice so I went for the house green salad (at £12) which consisted of mixed lettuce, thinly cut cucumber and peppers and a onion sauce, I added salmon ( an extra £6) and was glad i did. The salad I could have made at home for less than £2 so was hugely dissatisfied.
At the time of ordering I asked for a gin and slim line tonic plus a glass off tap water with ice, neither arrived so had to ask the waitress for again only to be bought a gin and normal tonic so again had to have that rectified, still no iced water, again I had to ask!
To be fair the salad was fresh and salmon was worth the price.
When presented with the bill I was shocked to see firstly the gin was £9 for a single measure and £3.50 for the mixer. The only reason I can see this is justified is due to the golf element and the recent renovation, neither of which interest me. My total bill came to over £33! I did mention this and asked for the service charge of 10% to be taken off seeing as the service I received was inadequate so not worh the tip!
I did read on TA that some rooms were very small but I can say mine was lovely with plenty of room.
I will not be staying here again as I have a company budget and with the limited menu and over Inflated prices I cannot make it work within my budget.

Just back from a two night dinner B&B celebrating my husbands birthday, we also had our cocker spaniel with us. On arrival we received a warm, friendly welcome from reception and given an upgrade which was very kind. The room was large but with a tiny bathroom and a shower screen that wasn't big enough so it proceeded to flood the floor and bath mat in no time. No shelving in bathroom for our own toiletries etc. Now for the next surprise, while hanging up my dresses l screamed, in horror to find a pair of dirty boxers in the wardrobe. Yes, this is meant to be a 5 star hotel. We then had to phone for dressing gowns as there were none in the room. I could go on. Cobwebs from corner to corner were quite disgusting too on the ceiling. Nespresso coffee pods not full. It was a very poor room experience. On a positive note the bed was comfortable and we had a nice view. Breakfasts were okay with a good selection, though I'd have liked to have seen yogurt in refrigerator. Our dinner both nights was enjoyable from the a la carte menu with side dishes being extra. Dog seemed happy with his bed, dog bowls and treats which you do pay for. A night in kennels would be cheaper. To be perfectly honest, our experience wasn't five star. It's disappointing, especially when your paying 5 star prices you expect 5 star quality. Marine Hotel Troon - it's not all about golf packages keeping you afloat so may I suggest, you consider all clientele at all times and that housekeeping standards are much improved.

It’s a nice enough hotel and I enjoyed my stay overall. I was going to give a “three” score but when I reflected on the numerous issues a “two” score maybe is a fairer reflection. The best thing is the staff - they were all very friendly and in a natural way. The pool is nice too and the bar and restaurant areas are pleasant spaces. My wife enjoyed her spa treatment too. Food was alright but not as good as I expected it to be I guess. It did take ages to come tho. I think it was about 45mins before the starters arrived (plus it was strange they served mine and it sat for about 5/10 mins before my wife’s starter arrived - after we chased it up, as we thought they must have forgotten it). The gaps between courses was very long so they must’ve been struggling in the kitchen? I suppose I didn’t mind that too much as I was in no rush. The main disappointment was the actual room. Again, I wasn’t too bothered so much as I didn’t come to the hotel to just sit in the room but it must be the smallest hotel room I’ve ever had to stay in. It had one tiny window. You do expect better in a 4 star hotel and I think it is actually quite an important factor for a hotel. The bathroom was also tiny and the contortion required to put my contact lenses in was funny. The plug for the lamp was hidden very awkwardly behind the desk. I traced the cable but you couldn’t move the desk out to get to where the socket was because it was pretty much up
against the bed. There was a chair at the desk but I don’t know why as you wouldn’t be able to pull it out to sit at it.. There was really only space for the desk & bed and there was very little floor space. The bed also had quite an uncomfortable mattress - I do think the beds & pillows in Premier Inns are more comfortable but I suppose that’s personal opinion. Maybe I should’ve answered their bizarre e mail sent before my stay where they said “make us an offer for an upgrade”. Perhaps my room allocation was a punishment for not making them an offer? I think it’s a strange way to market your business. I’ll be trying somewhere else when I go away next time.

This hotel has the look of its 5 star status unfortunately that is where it ends, although the very young staff are trying their best it felt like there were too many apologies from them but nothing was their fault, unfortunately they are front of house and therefore take the brunt of complaints which I felt bad about.
Food and menu was average but expensive. Breakfast service was a hit or a miss with a very small spaced out buffet style breakfast where staff and guest were literally bumping into each other. Full Scottish breakfast was not 5 star and on one occasion had to be returned because the bacon was virtually raw which the waiter apologised for but not his fault, surely the chef had to know it wasn’t edible.
The room, a Marine twin was on fist sight beautiful however the view was horrendous, apparently you pay for a view, we did not, therefore we looked on to kitchen and various roofs with vent systems that you hear could past 11 pm, thank goodness for the curtains. Finally the Spa/pool area consisted of loungers that were mouldy at the jacuzzi area with towels dumped on beds that were in fact free with plastic cups littering throughout, this pool area was not of 5 star status as it was a bit tired looking, I’d give it 3 stars at best, after paying £80 for a treatment the pool was not where I wanted to relax.. child free from 7pm till 9pm, an hour in the afternoon to coincide with treatments would have been good. There were plenty staff at the leisure facilities but not doing anything other than chatting and handing out towels.
I personally will not be returning however very child and pet friendly at a cost.

Beautiful hotel, with breathtaking scenery, upon arrival we
were met by staff members willing to bring our baggage in.
we were given suite 222 the staff even offered to bring extra
bedding and treats to the room for our dog! The suit was beautiful large, old timey but with a modern twist which seamed to fit! There was a large bed in one room and large sitting room with bay window in the other even with the sofa bed down the room was still large enough to use as a sitting room, the espresso machine in the room was a lovely touch watching the sea view via the bay window. The spa facilities and staff where all top form and nothing was too much hassle for them. we later dinned in the bar and was served in a timely manner even though they seamed to be busy. And a game of pool or two was enjoyed after dinner.
In the morning we
where seated for breakfast in the restaurant upon arrival
where array of continental breakfast item available on a
help your self basis my son much enjoyed the pastries, tea
and coffee and hot breakfast was served by the waiting
staff, the staff where very professional but with a
welcoming manner, beautiful area for walking the dog by
the beach which is literally a stones throw away! Overall a Fantastic night away

We stayed for three nights with our dog and have had the most wonderful time. The hotel is part way through a major refurbishment and all the public rooms have been completed to a very high standard. It looks and feels luxurious and welcoming. The staff have been friendly and knowledgeable. We’ve appreciated advice on everything from good walks to which new whisky to try! Lots of hotels advertise as “dogs welcome”, the Marine really takes this to heart. They have dog friendly rooms with a dog bed, treats and water bowls. Dogs are welcome in the Seal bar where you can eat the same menu as the Rabbit restaurant. The dog Rainbow was welcomed and pampered by so many members of staff she has decided she wants to live here permanently! Rainbow would like to give a particular shoutout to Angie at reception for all the cuddles and treats.

As other reviewers have said, if you go into this experience thinking it will be 5 star, as is advertised, you will be disappointed. It it an average hotel, albeit with wasted potential.
Firstly, the rooms are not as advertised on the website. The photos and 360 degree tour highlight the biggest room of that type the hotel offers, not a typical room. We booked two Sea View King rooms, which on the website appears very spacious with 2 desks, a couch and a coffee table. In reality, we got two small cramped rooms, that barely fit a king bed. This felt like one of their double rooms, that had a king bed squeezed in and then the price inflated to match. In fairness, the reception staff were great at handling this, and gave a discount which took the room to a price that it was actually worth. This appeared to be an issue that they were familiar with, and has been raised as a concern beforehand.
The leisure facilities were not luxurious, and resembled more of a family/kids area rather than relaxation area.
The Rabbit restaurant served very standard food, that whilst being nice, was not worth the price. Similarly, cocktails were very average and not worth the heightened prices. The Seal Bar was a nice ambience. The wait staff throughout were very friendly and helped redeem the average offerings.
The breakfast was a redeeming factor, with lovely views and good options, including vegetarian options.
Overall, the experience is not worth the price on the website. The average room is worth no more than £150 per night.

Room Tip: Go for dinner at Scott’s instead
Only book if you’re happy to pay for an overpriced standard room
