Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for 3 nights in November 2020 and had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. We booked a Garden Room which was exceptionally cleaned and comfortable with a small outdoor seating area where we could sit outdoors. We were able to park our car right next to our accommodation too. All Covid measures were in place throughout the hotel and it all felt very safe. All service throughout our stay was excellent with attentive, kind and courteous staff who were able to make suggestions of places to visit, tell us about the area and even recommend restaurants for our onward stay in Inverness. Breakfasts were delicious, made to order which we provided the night before and most enjoyable. We ate at the restaurant on two nights and the food was absolutely delicious, served in a wonderful setting with a very hospitable, friendly ambience. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at this hotel in visiting the area.

We had an excellent three night stay at The Lovat and we were very pleased with the accommodation provided. Our first floor room was large and comfortable with lovely views over the Loch and surrounding hills. The bathroom was also large with a separate shower and freestanding bath.
Drinks in the bar were a little pricey but it was very pleasant having a drink before or after dinner in the spacious lounges. We had dinner on two of the evenings of our stay and have reviewed the restaurant separately however we would definitely recommend eating in the restaurant at least once if staying at the hotel. Breakfast had to be pre ordered the night before which did not present a problem and there was an excellent range of very tasty dishes. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
The hotel was well located for exploring the southern end of Loch Ness & would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We stayed at The Lovat with our two children for four nights. The hotel had not long reopened when we stayed and while everyone, including us, were getting used to a new way of working and staying in an hotel, it felt like a very safe place to be.
We had two Master bedrooms and both were large and very comfortable with lots of little extras included (we loved the Tunnocks Caramel Wafers included with the tea tray!). I was initially unsure if it was the sort of place that welcomed children but it most definitely was. We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening and while my husband and I enjoyed the incredible tasting menu, our boys were treated to huge, clearly home made pizzas. Same sort of service at breakfast - they even found my youngest baked beans one morning! Overall the food was excellent and the tasting menu was fantastic value for money. Other things were a bit pricier, like the tea and coffee we had in the bar one evening, but the quality of what we were getting plus the level of service makes the cost understandable. Service was friendly and helpful and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was relaxed luxury. We will definitely be back!

Me and my husband recently stayed here for 3 nights while on a tour of Scotland. We stayed in one of the garden rooms which have a outside area, and found the room to be very comfortable and spacious. We asked for a standard check in as I know the key can be left for you if desired and found the staff to be helpful the room had a generous sized bathroom and very comfortable bed, however as others have stated it was very high off the floor ) Im 5’4 so not short but it was a bit of a climb.
Due to covid restrictions there was no full room cleaning nowhere we did get things topped up and the bed tidied which was much appreciated.
The hotel is a very short walk away from the center of town and we enjoyed walking in the nearby wood, and by the cannel and watching the boats go through the locks we also had a lovely boat tip on loch ness.
The only reason this is not a 5 star review is the wifi was terrible, we got a call from the owners on the last night to ask if we had a problem with it as I believe another guest had complained so maybe this is not a permanent problem.
We didn’t have any meals at the hotel but did have some drinks in the lovely main building. We would probably select a room in the main building next time as the garden rooms are nice but you can hear the people next door and road noise very easily.

Stayed here at short notice after our holiday to France was cancelled so did a tour of Highlands.
Upsides:The man in charge (bearded English guy) was so pleasant and lovely. Really made us welcome and had such attention to detail. Happy to give tips on local things to do and everything was turned around quickly. We thought the room was very reasonable for the quality and size particularly in this area in height of summer. Breakfast was superb and the Ozzie guy at breakfast was so nice.
Downside: We did think the tasting menu was a bit expensive for what it turned out to be. For the kids they had pizza which were £15 each:/ Our 7 year old didn't eat hers as it was a bit too fancy so we asked for a plate of plain pasta. On receiving the bill they had charged another £15 for this. After complaining they halved the charge which even then I thought was a bit grabby considering it was a handful of plain pasts and we had been freely buying drinks, wine etc and had not been scrimping.
WIth the above said, I would say that the pluses far outweigh the one negative and would definitely come back or recommend to others.

Just back from a fantastic one night stay here. Situated on a great spot with beautiful views, the hotel is the perfect location in picturesque Fort Augustus. The room was cosy, the bed huge and decor tastefully done with nice wee touches such as a Tunnox caramel wafer each, complimentary bottles of water and choc bombs for making hot chocolate. The breakfast was amazing. The museli was top quality and the fry up was of the best ingredients. Even the orange was of the freshly squeezed variety. I commented to the manager that the coffee was delicious and enquired as to where the hotel sourced it. She told me it was from an independent coffee shop in Inverness and gave me their details. 5 minutes later one of the waiters brought me over a bag of the coffee to take home, compliments of the hotel. Such a lovely gesture. Little personal touches like this are what makes you revisit an establishment and I for one will definitely be back.

Fort Augustus can be a very good base to explore the region, and with “The Lovat” you can be sure to unwind after a busy day, and the hearty breakfast will provide an excellent start into the next. We were very happy with the “Grand Master” room we booked, as it is very spacious, of course spotless clean and well maintained, and offering a nice sitting area with a glimpse of Loch Ness between the trees (and the rabbits roaming around in the garden). Good toiletries are provided, the only thing we missed were bath salts to enjoy the tub a bit more after a day of hiking. A bottle of fizzy water, Chocolate sticks plus rather good coffee from a Nespresso-machine are included in the rate. The Waypoint bar doesn’t yet seem to be fully up to pre-covid times in terms of available whiskies for the connoisseur, but the three flights on offer will give you a good overview. On some days under the week the bar was closed earlier than expected, but there are options for a nightcap just a short stroll away. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a chance to eat in the restaurant, something we certainly will do on our next visit, to which we look very forward to when back in the region.

+1
Beautiful hotel and excellent service the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Rooms were to a very high standard and you felt very COVID safe during our stay. We tried the restaurant and the food was excellent definitely Michelin star standard. When arriving you were asked to fill in a card on what you wanted for breakfast in the morning and the staff delivered it to your table lots of choice. We will definitely consider returning again in the near future.

We stayed on the 18th June 2021 in a garden room, each room has a little courtyard with a table and chairs which is nice. It’s a lovely hotel in an excellent location with extremely helpful, friendly staff. We eat in the restaurant who, at the moment, are offering a 9 course taster menu or a 3 course set menu, we had the 3 course meal @ £47.50. The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the entire meal was excellent. The service was equally good, we were never rushed and asked as to when we would like the next course served. Breakfast the next morning was of an equally high standard. All in all an lovely stay only shame was we only booked for the 1 night.

It is the details that can make a stay seamless and peaceful, or a pain in the neck. The historical Lovat in Fort Augustus, inside the old Fort's wall, is a well cared for, luxurious manor hotel. The rooms have soft, plumb furnishings, rich soaps, warm colours and floors. The Station's restaurant, with Sean & Caroline, prepares fresh, perfectly cooked local seafood and herbs - a culinary ceilidh in your mouth. It would be a lovely lounging stay if it were not for the computer systems. If you go, do not book on the hotel's website - ring, or book on booking.com When I checked in, two other guests waited a half hour, along with myself because the hotel could not locate its own booking. Then, they needed to start the process all over again, and even that was lost. The second day there, I was sternly reprimanded by the restaurant's somelier for 'not paying the bill', the same one that had been paid twice before. This was not the staff's fault, and I can imagine it is frustrating, but it did leave a sour note, which would have otherwise been a perfectly enjoyable stay.
