I stayed in one of the chalets for 3 nights with my family in August 2024. The location is excellent; between the canal and river, peaceful and only a 5 min walk to the town.
The cabin was extremely clean when we arrived and the owner (Julie) was very friendly and helpful. An enjoyable stay and great value.

Lovely location. Slightly shabby on outside but immaculately clean on inside and everything you need. Julie was so friendly and helpful. Lots to do in the area. Plenty of places to eat. Would thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay. Very laid back and perfect for the surrounding area.

Me and Joyce really enjoyed the views and very beautiful scenery in the area. The park is within a very short walking distance of the town of Fort Augustus and the Caledonian canal. Well worth a visit.

Arrived Monday afternoon after booking Saturday to Saturday, Chalet wasn't ready for us even by 13.30 Monday afternoon.
Once we eventually got in, the Chalet wasn't even fully clean, things felt dirty & the smell omitting from carpets & sofas was stinging my nose. This isn't just unclean this is beyond neglect. Which is a real shame as its in a beautiful location. This requires serious updating and cleaning before I will even consider returning.
The final nail in the coffin is that it feels like it's a long term workers camp not a holiday site

OMG!!

This has to be the worse chalets available, the surrounding area is absolutely stunning, its hard to understand why this place wasn't amazing. granted we were there with work so we wasn't expecting 5* but this was a minus 5* - I have made my position clear that under no circumstances will we be returning..

Chalets have been getting some work done... I'm unsure which decade this was started but it finished really quickly as these are in a terrible state, the timbers are half pained and don't fit properly there is gaps thru out and the place was freezing.

The back door is so rotten I'm sure you could push a finger thru it along with a huge crack in the glass..

The cooking appliances should be condemned and no attempt was made to clean out the old food left behind by others including an oven tray thick with fat/grease.

If the smell of damp doesn't kill you the weird and not wonderful creepy crawlers will!!

This place should be bulldozed flat...

Oh by the way, PAYG electric meter with electric heating!! #costly!!

I'm sure back in the day these were great but age and lack off maintenance have really taken their toll.

Have just returned from Fort Augustus Chalet Park where we spent a five night break over Easter.

Six of us shared a 3 bedroom chalet. The chalets are quite old and although not much to look at from the outside, set in a beautiful, tranquil location. There were swings outside and much to the delight of the children, four horses living in the field next door always ready for a carrot! New owners Julie and Clive are working on giving a "face lift" to outside this year. Inside, the chalets have new kitchens which include washing machine and microwave. The bathrooms are newley fitted, including shower and are spotlessly clean.

Clive met us at the site and showed us our chalet, he gave us £20.00 towards the electric meter which takes one pound coins, this was more than enough for our five day stay. Even though the temperature outside was rather cold!

Fort Augustus is an ideal base from which to see the sights. The village itself has many places to eat including the Lock Inn pub which serves lovely food and a very warm welcome.

The proprietors (Julie and Clive) were helpful to begin with but that did not last. They were upset with a smell in our chalet. The solution was simple (I opened a window) but they lost their temper - threats of surcharges, character assassinations and poisonous insults. I was calm and polite, so no excuses there. They also entered our chalet without permission and without telling us either before or after. Our possessions were re-arranged but nothing was stolen.

mouldy bathroom due to flooding
dribbly shower (even after the leaky hose was replaced)
coin-operated electricity got jammed and was a nuisance even when not jammed - it ran out in the middle of the day so that the fridge got warm
TV stopped working
shabby carpets with cigarette burns
front door jammed solid - had to use back door instead
no padding in mattresses so you can feel the metal springs
rust on oven
bedroom door not painted or varnished and covered in glue

Just got back from two weeks at this site. Julie is a very nice person and is obviously struggling with health problems but this site is being run as living quarters for workers of various nationalities and not as a holiday park. The setting is stunning but some of the chalets are very shabby on the outside, some have been painted but others look as if they could be used on the set for Tenko. there are trenches dug across part of the site as there appears to be some kind of building work that is yet to be completed and the first thing you see are loads of dust bins some of which were never emptied during the 2 weeks we were there although some were. The Chalet we occupied had been recently painted internally but the microwave was dirty and the furniture shabby and dusty. Julie solved some of our problems but the blinds that were missing from the kitchen and bathroom windows never arrived. The kitchen lacked basic equipment some of which was given to us on request but the whole feel of the place was neglect and indifference. Not quite sure where Julie wants to go with this site but I would be very wary of recommending it to anyone. `there was also an abandon vehicle parked near our chalet and behind it was loads of old washing machines and other rubbish

On arrival, to be honest I was a bit wary - the chalets looked like a few sparse farm outbuildings clumped together.

However, I was met by Julie who was absolutely lovely and couldn’t have made us feel more comfortable. Chalets were clean, spacious and had everything needed. Add in the value, and you’ll be struggling to find anything better - in fact it’d be pretty impossible to find in this location.

We come up to Fort Augustus (FA) four or five times each year and used to stay in local hotels and B&B's, and on our walks along the Caledonian Canal, we have passed the FACP and liked the location.
This year we had to book two back to back stays in the same month, and, after reading a positive review here on Tripadvisor, rather than stay in a hotel, we decided to try the self catering route and book a stay at FACP.
I'm so glad we did.
The location? The park is only yards off the Great Glen Way, all you need to do to find it is follow the canalside until you get to a detached white B&B, and you are there.
The site itself was once a lot larger that it is presently, and that to us is a good thing. Ringed with tall pines, it has a feeling of quiet seclusion away from the hustle and bustle of the lockside and village centre.
The Chalets are well spaced out and vary in size from one to three bedrooms, so however big your party is, Julie and Clive can find you accomodation on site to suit your needs. All chalets have their own dedicated hardstanding parking area and are non smoking - but the majority have a verandah and seating if that's what you require.
We chose to stay in Skye, a one bedroomed chalet at the rear of the park.
Going through the double glazed patio front door, a two person chalet is divided up into a lounge/kitchen area, a double bedroom with lots of storage space, and a bathroom off that which has a modern sink and a very good shower.
The seating area has its own leather suite, a dining table and two chairs and a Freeserve TV. The kitchen zone is virtually brand new and comprises lots of cupboard and worksurface space, an electric cooker, microwave, kettle, fridge freezer and a washing machine. All of these appliances look to be only months old.
All in all it's very cosy and there is a lovely view of the site from the patio area (the spacing of the chalets means you only see open spaces, not the side of another caravan/chalet that is so prevalent at other sites).
Outside? Each chalet has its own wooden table and chairs so that you can eat al fresco if the day/evening allows it (and you can do - mercifully the site isn't 'midgified'), plus there is a rotating clothes line for long stayers. As another reviewer has stated, deer wander through the area, and we spotted only our third red squirrel in the pine trees opposite our chalet.
Once you have settled in, FACP provides everything you need as a base to work from.
The village centre with its pubs and restaurants, the locks and Loch Ness are only a two minute drive or five minute walk away (Fort Augustus has two small supermarkets that provide for all your catering needs), and from a touring perspective, you are slap bang in the middle of some of the best scenery in the Highlands.
I couldn't wrap this review up without mentioning Julie and Clive, the owners of the site.
They a lovely couple who genuinely can't do enough for their guests, they are so welcoming and willing to help make your stay with them as memorable as possible. They know the best places to visit, and are a mine of information about the local area. We can't speak too highly of them.
All in all the FACP is the perfect spot to both stop over for a few nights, or to use as a base to work out from to tour that part of the Highlands.
Comfortable, cosy, clean and very affordable accomodation, a tranquil location, and owners that really care about your stay with them all go to make the Fort Augustus Chalet Park a great place to stay when you visit this part of Scotland.
If you are a solo traveller, a couple or a group, looking for warm, welcoming self catering accomodation the FA Chalet Park is perfect for your needs.

Oops, nearly forgot to tell you that the site is pet friendly, which for us is a massive bonus (many hotels and B&B's in the area don't accept dogs).
Do we recommend it as a place to stay?
Absolutely.
Hope this helped!

"No Wifi yet, but Julie and Clive have wifi at the B&B that they own/live in 50 metres away from the chalet park if you really need to have wifi access. Why anyone would want contact with the outside world when coming here is beyond me. It contradicts the whole point of the tranquility. J&C were considering making the reception chalet on the park into a wifi lounge but this is only a consideration at the moment. I Like chalet 1 personally, but I have been given a guided tour of all of the chalets. Chalet 7 is the most modern but to be honest, I would still choose chalet 1. Creature of habit."
