Detailed Reviews
We booked a 2 night stay as part of a road trip around Scotland due to the close proximity to Loch Ness Cruises. I was a bit unsure about staying in a hostel with young children but we were able to book a private room and even take the dog too!
We stayed in a family room with en suite facilities and although we didn't actually use the shower, it was spacious and clean as was the bathroom, the bedroom and all six (bunk)beds. The common areas were lovely and cosy, the piano is a nice touch, and there's an adult only bar on site that we didn't use but also weren't disturbed by at all.
We ordered breakfast which consisted of bacon and/or sausage on a bread roll with home made granola bars, a piece of fruit and orange or apple juice. There was also as much tea or coffee as you want.
If you're looking for a budget friendly hostel in a great location I would highly recommend Morag's Lodge

Solo use of a small dorm, bed comfortable, each bunk had light and charging points, lockers outside room, Tea and coffee available on request as kitchen out of use. Food available to order breakfast and packed lunch good value, evening meal available but limited options better options outside hostel.

Morag’s Lodge is very clean in a very pretty setting. The staff have really thought about the needs of their customers. They have a drying room, which is an amazing bonus when you’ve been outdoors in Scotland. We were so glad to be able to get our wet clothes dry. Sean (member of staff) was very welcoming and helpful. We had a room and en-suite to ourselves and we were very cosy. This is great hostel accommodation and staff have done their very best to make the hostel safe during the pandemic.

Great location, very friendly staff, basic amenities. Would give 5-star but we had a bad experience due to a mistake by hotel staff. We returned to hotel at mid-night and all 4 cards didn’t work. We were told not to keep them with the phones, so we followed that strictly to avoid any issues.
There was no emergency number to call, no one at the reception to let us in. We had to sleep with a friend with all out stuff locked inside our room, with no sleeping cloths, duvet, pillows it was very bad night and experience for us which ruined our holiday experience.
Hotel staff apologised next morning and refunded the night’s cost plus free breakfast but the experience still spoilt our holidays.
My recommendation to Morag’s lodge, please go back to good old room keys instead of card access. Card access is suitable for big hotels where reception is open 24/7 OR display the emergency number fixed on the front door so that someone can get help in case of emergency!

I visited Norah's Lodge as a solo traveller on a motorcycle tour of the Highlands. My room had bunks for 4 people,so was plenty big enough for me on my own. It also had an ensuite bathroom with a very effective and hot shower.
The staff, without exception, were brilliant. They were friendly, efficient and incredibly hard-working. Breakfast was basic but good and meals were served where you wanted - in the dining room or in the comfortable lounge areas. I ordered a vegetarian evening meal for each of the two nights I was at the lodge and both meals were, like the breakfasts, basic but tasty and good value for money. The lodge has a bar which is well stocked with a wide range of single malts.
It's location is fabulous, right on the Great Glen Way and a couple of minutes stroll into Fort Augustus town.

An excellent place to stay in a fantastic setting not far from the centre of Fort Augusta. We stayed just one night whilst cycling the Great Glen with the evening meal, breakfast and packed lunch included.
Our twin room was en-suit. Plenty to of space and the beds quite comfortable.
The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. I choose a mild chicken curry for the evening meal, I found it really nice and there was plenty of it. Breakfast was good but let down only by the bread barm being on the dry side. The packed lunch was spot on.
The lockable bike shed was ok, but was kitted out with the bike stand you put the wheels in and the type that is known to damage wheels. It was also quite cramped.
Considering our visit was during the pandemic I felt safe. The hostel is definitely Covid-19 secure.
I would have no issues about staying there again or recommending it to others.

A group of six of us stayed here for two nights. My wife and I stayed in one room with private bath and four beds in two bunks. Our friend had another private room with shared bath and another couple and their daughter had another room with private bath. It was nice to have the option to have private spaces but it would have been less expensive if we'd been up for sharing the rooms with others. We were offered the option of reserving (and paying) for dinner and breakfast options ahead of time. The dinner was simple, very filling, and worth it to us. My wife and I chose bangers, mash, and neeps and others the hagis option. Breakfast was fair, we only chose to do that one morning as we found dining room a bit busy and cramped for our tastes. We did chose to rent towels but cost was minimal. We did hang out in pub area and enjoyed that but person who worked the bar was also handling front desk and other tasks and we found ringing the bell repeatedly a bit awkward. The property is in a nice setting and there was a decent amount of free parking (but lot did get pretty full while we were there).

Excellent budget choice for one night stay at Fort Augustus. Just a few minutes walk from the Citylink coach stop and from the canal and cruise location. We booked a private room with ensuite. Nice comfy bed, clean and tidy and very quiet.
We booked dinner which was good value at £10 for a full plate of minced beef pie and vegetables. Other options available and a well stocked bar onsite too. Also booked breakfast which consists of a bacon, sausage or vegan roll, orange juice, fruit and granola bars for £5 each and free tea or coffee. Plenty to start the day off. You can get food from a few places down by the canal but options are limited.
Staff very friendly and helpful too.

Had a lovely trip to Morags Lodge. Rooms were spotless and the lounge and reception areas were comfortable and welcoming! We didn’t use the bar or restaurant but everything looked lovely that we seen in passing…….the free tea and coffee facilities was fantastic. The room cleaners were friendly and helped me with doors when I was trying to balance 3 coffee cups :) the property is in a great location too!
Only downside was the shower which was really weak, it was like standing under a leaky tap - although this can be common in properties when everyone is showering at the same time so it’s not a deal breaker.
Also we were looking for some information on the area and the receptionist didn’t know and didn’t try to find out for us. This was only disappointing as I had been in email contact with the property before arrival and had been given information that I just needed clarified but she just didn’t seem interested in assisting us.
We would definately return as the value for money was unbeatable. Great for a comfortable and clean base for such a beautiful part of the country!

Our first impression was before we even arrived with questions via email dealt with quickly and efficiently. We arrived late on Friday night, but all of the information we needed was readily available. The hostel has more than enough communal space which is well kept and well organised- they clearly know what they are doing!
An en suite room at a hostel is rare treat. The room and bathroom were very clean and tidy. The room suited our family of four with a dog with a double bed and bunk beds.
The hostel is ideally situated for the Great Glen Way which runs right past the gate, but there are numerous other walks and cycle rides too. It is just a short walk into the amenities of Fort Augustus.
Perhaps tge greatest asset were the staff who could not have been more helpful or friendly.
I would highly recommend
