Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for two nights on the way to the North Coast 500 but have to say we were very impressed with the whole set up. We were in the Nessie room which had two large bunk beds, a large bathroom with a fab shower and everywhere was spotlessly clean. I was skeptical about staying in bunks as a fifty something, but they were so comfortable and sturdy we needn’t have worried! Would definitely recommend.

We stayed here last week as part of the NC500. The rooms are clean, comfortable and look as if they have been recently refurbished. Access is via a locked door for which you are sent codes. It worked really well. There is the Caledonian Centre below the rooms which has food but it wasn't open early enough for us. Would recommend without hesitation.

We stayed in Loch Lochy room, 1 night only. Perfect for walks, food, trips on Loch Ness. Our room was lovely. Only one issue, the pillows were very flat and lumpy and had to be folded to sleep. We had a ensuite bathroom, with separate bath in our room. Nice views of the locks, would be relaxing on a nice day to watch the boats coming and going. Ok for us for an overnight stay.

My partner & I had a very brief 2 hour stay in the Loch Dochfour room on the 27/09/20 and can only describe the stay as totally disappointing. After a 9 hour drive we was looking forward to getting our heads down for a fresh start in the morning exploring the loch. From arriving we knew this wasn’t going to happen as we could literally hear everything from doors slamming, footsteps from other guests in the their rooms. We
even listened to another guest describing his dinner over a phone call. After 2 hours of this we literally repacked and left and rebooked another place to stay. If your happy to hear other guests conversations over your tv your be fine but for us this isn’t really acceptable. £90 for a 2 hour stay!

Good location, and parking a short walk away. The room itself was nice, comfy bed and nice bath. However, it’s very noisy. The sound of anyone coming and going up the stairs to the rooms is very loud, and we were in Loch Lochy which is next to the Loch Ness room which had some very loud occupants in. The doors opening, keys, footsteps you can hear it all which is really disappointing. Not quite the hotels problem as the building is what it is, but it would put me off returning.
The staff downstairs in the shop and cafe are also not extremely welcoming - and i waited at least 10 minutes for a couple of slices of toast (the cafe was empty)
It’s in a good location for the Loch Ness cruise.

What a wonderful place to stay. The rooms modern and spacious with towels, tea and coffee and hair dryer provided. The rooms were warm, and had lovely window views of Fort Augustus. The little outside space is a wonderful addition to the room, with tables and chairs which looks over the canal. The communication was 10/10 and you had every detail needed upon arrival.
You are right in the centre of the village. With a few places to choose from to eat, all of which looked fab. We ate at the Bothy which had wonderful service and sold great pub grub, and was family friendly.
There is a petrol station near by with a shop for anything extra you might want.
During the day there are lots of lovely places to have lunch and grab a coffee from. We are in the Canal cafe which was lovely breakfast and coffee and a delightful shop too. We also had soup and a panini in little café opposite which was lovely too.
I would throughly recommend using the cruise Loch Ness boat trip from here too. The tour guides were fab and the trip lasted a good 50 min. You can grab a drink and snack on this trip too.
Parking - there is a car park near by. However, opposite the hotel is marked parking which is free to use.

Coming to Fort Augustus to check out Loch Ness, we stopped here for a coffee. Good coffee, we’ll priced and friendly service. There’s space to eat breakfast and lunch out the front or back, there’s plenty of take away options too. Great place right near the canal locks which appear to be in operation every hour or so… it’s also an easy walk down to the bottom of Loch Ness!

Stayed one night whilst travelling the NC500. Rooms were spotless, comfortable and ideally located. There is free parking just along the road and plenty of places to eat in the small town (tho book a table in advance during these COVID times).

We stayed here for 1 night in the Nessie room but we wish it could have been longer! The room was spotless, the beds were comfy. The whole area we had was very big and cosy 2x bunk beds and a huge bathroom area. Dog friendly which was great for us. The location was great, such a lovely little town to visit and right on the edge of Loch Ness. Very covid safe, self check in which was very easy. Only downside was no immediate parking to the hotel but you can park across the road on a little side street for free. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.

I had ordered a hot chocolate and a croissant.
The croissant was a little overdone but still very tasty. The hot chocolate was great and well presented.
The service was brilliant, staff were very friendly.
It was located very near the canals and loch which made for beautiful scenery.
Whilst we were in the cafe there was another party around 8 people, they where very loud (shouting and banging the table). We rushed our drinks in order to leave as the noise was a little too much.
I would very much like to attend again, hopefully in the summer.

Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom53 contributions20 helpful votesHi. Can anyone tell me if it’s worth staying here over new year. Will have children and a dog, so not looking to be partying! Would be nice to know if some shops/ restaurants would be open?
Thanks in advance.
google the nearest tourism office. there are plenty of walks, but you would need eateries to be open (despite a short distance from inverness) would be the best advice I could offer. be surprising if everything is closed as they are heavily reliant upon the tourists...enjoy!
