The Lamlash Bay Hotel garners applause for its exceptional service, as staff members are frequently lauded for their warmth and professionalism. Guests have called out the pristine cleanliness of the rooms and the inviting atmosphere they create, with many specifically noting the comfortable furnishings and beautiful sea views. While opinions on value diverge, some travelers feel the pricing is justified by the hotel's array of amenities and prime location, which offers easy access to local attractions and stunning vistas. However, a few guests mention the rooms can feel somewhat compact and carry a hefty price tag.

This place seemed very busy wgen we pulled up outside. Our booking was for 8.15 and we were pleasantly surprised when we walked up to the door, someone came to greet us and show us to our table We had a well behaved dog with us and they had dog treats at the ready very dog friendly
Each table had a plastic screen protection as you walked in by the door ( which was where our table was)
So that people walking through did not come into any contact with you, which i thought was wonderful All covid measures were in place and thought out extremely well. The food was amazing my daughter and i shared our starters of garlic mushrooms and 6 inch garlic bread I had fish and chips with mushy peas The batter on fish was beautiful as was the fish and my daughter had the classic burger with cheese which she said was amazing The chips were cooked beautifully too The Staff were all very friendly and pleasant and made a fuss of our canine companion would definitely recommend this Hotel and will certainly return

Dear Customers, We are so pleased to hear that you felt safe with our Covid procedures during your recent visit. It is challenging to make everyone feel welcome when there are so many rules and restrictions in place. It is very kind of you to write of your experiences which in turn give confidence to potential customers considering where to eat. We are glad that you enjoyed your food and that pooch was happy too. Hope to see you again soon!

The Lamlash Bay Hotel team are working very hard to ensure their guests and staff are being kept safe during the pandemic. It's a risk for all, and we are very grateful to Meg and Serge and their team for reopening and giving us the opportunity of a very welcome island break.

We loved the fact that we were given the option of no member of staff entering our room from arrival to departure, if we wished. We are all capable of making up our bed and rinsing our coffee mugs and tidying round, and again, adds towards keeping team members safer.

Also, instead of running up a bill to be settled upon departure, guests are asked to settle their bar / food account as they go along, thereby minimising contact on checkout.

We felt very safe, and cannot recommend booking The Lamlash Bay Hotel highly enough.

We booked to stay here two nights, but ended up staying for three due to ferry cancellations from the poor weather. This is a lovely hotel with attentive and kind staff, who were very welcoming and accommodating when we needed an additional night at short notice.

We dined at the restaurant two nights, and enjoyed our meals both times. I’d particularly recommend the fish with creamy leek sauce or the chicken curry which was excellent!

We would thoroughly recommend the Lamlash Bay Hotel if you are visiting Arran!

Dear customer, We are sorry you found your drink disgusting. A one star review deserves thorough investigation so I’ve checked with the staff for anyone who complained about their drinks and would therefore have had them replaced with an alternative. It’s a bit of a mystery as this wasn’t the case. Nor did anyone remove untouched drinks from a table. We called a couple of other customers who’d been in drinking Tennents over the last couple of days ( same barrel) to check if theirs was ok and haven’t had any other complaints. Our line cleaning is done using a state of the art beer line cleaning machine we invested in called BeerPiper as we felt this is such an important procedure. The actual pouring of the pint shouldn’t change the taste to such a disgusting level so we checked for our rinse aid solutions in case something had gone wrong in the glass washer. Finally we find it helpful to look at the customer Tripadvisor profile to get a sense of their expectations but you’ve only ever used it twice to give one star reviews, the other one being when you were asked to leave another establishment. Thanks again for the feedback, we are glad to be open again!

Stayed in the Bay Hotel on 10th and 11th Aug 2020 due to opting for a wee staycation due to Covid-19. We stayed in room 10 (view from room in photos). The hotel says it is small but it had everything you needed and opening the door to the toilet was like being in the Tardis, slightly bigger than expected. The whole experience was as good as could be hoped, if not better. They made you feel welcome from the booking right through till we checked out. We ate there both nights and found the food, breakfast and dinner to be extremely good. All the staff could not be complimented enough. Our only complaint was that we never stayed for longer but that was our fault for not believing the other reviews.

Called in here for our last night's meal after having had a truly wonderful week on this idyllic Isle. We had a table booked at the Drift but they only have 2 vegan main course options and we had been there once already during the week. So we called in here during the day and were assured they catered for vegans. I declined to eat any pre dinner snacks saving myself for the gastronomic extravaganza. We sat outside because if you want an alcoholic drink with your meal that's the latest rule for Scotland. Weather was chilly but dry so no issue there and when we requested a blanket we were given one.
Turns out they don't have vegan white wine and wouldn't allow me to go to the coop next door and buy and bottle and they wouldn't go and buy a bottle because they "probably wouldn't be able to sell it to anyone else"!!! My husband had a glass of red (he isn’t vegan) and it came to just under £7. The vegan wine in the coop is £6 so even if they sold me one glass they would still be making £1 profit right? So let's talk about starters. Nothing at all for a vegan. Even the olives which might have been OK were not good enough to have as a starter but fine to put on top of a pizza! Surely that was my decision to make and I actually wanted them but felt discouraged. Main course (the only vegan option) was Mediterranean vegetable cassoulet with rice. Otherwise known as ratatouille with butter beans added and boil in the bag rice! Apparently there were vegan desert options but I'd given up by then and the conversation from 3 of the locals was soooooo disrespectful to visitors of Arran we felt too uncomfortable to stay any longer. I didnt want to cause a scene but oh boy I wish I'd said that they may want to remeber that without visitors their shops, bars and restaurants wouldn't survive. And to top it all not one of them were true Arran residents. 1 from Australia, one from Yorkshire and a woman who had an English accent. Seriously my husband and I had a lovely week, spent lots of money deliberately on goods produced in Arran but this last evenings experience has left a very horrible memory.

Thank you for your review and taking the time for such a lengthy one; although just a few more seconds of your time would have led you to our restaurant review page instead of posting your review on our hotel page... Just a few points to clarify with you so you can better understand the constraints of hospitality, especially after having been shut for 6 months. An establishment is not allowed to purchase alcohol from a supermarket for re-sale to customers. Also purchasing a bottle of wine for £6 and re-selling a 250ml glass for £7, doesnt pay the electricity, wages, water rates, taxes, island surcharge, glassware, the seat you sat on, the blanket that covered you etcetc; especially when we have to throw away the rest of the bottle as we have not had the demand for it till your visit. As for our food, upon closer scrutiny you would have found our very popular Indian style curry dish is available as a vegan option, not to mention our lovely new plant based burger and a new vegan pizza; which are all part of our vegan offering. Having looked at your trip advisor profile, I would just like to say that tripadvisor can also be used as a tool to compliment an establishment, as out of the 4 reviews you have posted so far, 3 of them are seemingly not to your taste at all...

Some friends and I decided to make the trip to Arran for a cycling weekend. The hotel was beautiful. The rooms were spotless and with everything that is going on with Covid, the staff couldn’t have done any more to make us feel extremely safe during our stay. They were really well prepared.

The views from the shore in front of the hotel are stunning and it is really handy being next to a local supermarket should you need any supplies.

The food was great. We ate in for breakfast and dinner. I’d highly recommend the Scottish breakfast in the morning and fish and chips for dinner😀

Spent two nights at Lamlash Bay Hotel as my partner had stayed here several times in the past (a long time ago). We booked a double room and had our dog as it is dig friendly'ish.
Our mistake was not to ring and ask advice. The room was lovely and freshly decorated but was in the eaves as mentioned by other guests. My partner is 6'2" he walked into the room struggling with a case and butted the beam/low ceiling just inside the door. No warning/yellow hazmat tape nothing. He had a red mark on his forehead.
We unpacked and went out for a walk. I reported to reception about the accident...not bothered.
The lady on reception explained it was our fault for not checking the room out in more depth or ri going ahead. They had nothing else to offer us.
We were happy to stay as it was only two nights. The dog friendly bit is a bit odd. You can not leave the dog unattended in the room so at meal times we walked along to a near by car park and popped her in her crate.
Just a heads up if your dog doesn't settle well in the car.
All in all it was a nice hotel, food was nice just little things unsettled us.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. I do remember you staying with us back in September and that you were visibly upset when your partner bumped his head whilst manouvring your case into the room. I was of course “ bothered” and concerned by this. As there were no other rooms available I did confirm with you if you were going to be ok to stay on as we would rather have found alternative accommodation than have deeply unhappy guests. I would have definitely confirmed that you were given the room you had booked but on pointing out the description of “ Small Attic Room” as listed on our website I was trying to reassure you that we were not trying to trick people or misrepresent what we are offering. As mentioned in your review you were happy to stay on as it was only for a couple of days. Managing expectations is undoubtably the hardest part of hospitality and we do try to be really clear with photos/ descriptions and advice. This is easier to do on content we control like our own website but challenging with online booking channels where only drop down menus are available for descriptions. The good news is that having been closed again since November, we have managed in to take new photos of the attic rooms which were recently redecorated, The photos show pictures above the beds on the sloping walls which makes for a more 3D effect and we hope this helps make it clearer when people are looking at the room they are booking. Given that your review mentions this 5 months after your stay, I will put up some hazard tape at the entrance as we do take feedback seriously. We are glad that overall you have rated us 4/5 stars and that you found the hotel to be nice and the food good. I remember having the pleasure of serving and enjoyed chatting with you over the course of your stay. I would like to clarify about our dog friendly policy so that potential guests can decide whether it’s right for them or not. We are a dog friendly hotel and although dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, they are allowed in our bar area which is cosy and comfy with bay views too. We serve the same food in the restaurant as we do in the bar so guests can have evening meals in there with their dog. We also set up for breakfast in the bar for guests with dogs. Sometimes guests put their dogs in their cars if they prefer to eat in the restaurant, but the alternative of eating in the bar is there and what people do in general. Dogs not being allowed to be left alone in the room is kinder to the dog and safer to the business. It is pretty standard procedure in dog friendly accommodation. We have had guests bring crates which would avoid damage that could ( and has) been caused by a dog distressed at being left alone in a strange room but have also had dogs left in crates bark at anyone passing in the corridor. We have no vetting procedure so it’s simply that dogs stay with their owners whilst in the hotel. We do hope that you are safe and well during these difficult times and that we will see you again in the future. Best Wishes,

Didn't prebook, called on the day and was quoted £171 for 1 person in small double ensuite room at the back of the hotel for 2 nights bed & breakfast. A bit disappointed on seeing the room as had high expectations after seeing the hotel on Four in a Bed TV programme. The wallpaper is scraped/damaged in several places, bedding clean but quite worn, very squeaky floorboards & carpet had several stains The furnishings were adequate, one bedside cabinet with a lamp, chest of drawers with TV (very small) and a plastic tray with a kettle, 1 mug, tea/coffee/hot chocolate sachet, sat ontop of the drawers. Also had a wardrobe with full length mirror and 1 dining type chair. The small ensuite had a walk-in shower, a hand towel and very small/thin bath towel were also supplied. Arran shower gel, shampoo and hand-wash were supplied and smelled lovely. Breakfast has to be pre-ordered by 8pm the day before and I was offered a timeslot of 9.10am or 9.40am. They like to stagger guests arrivals for breakfast although I think the tables are set out with juice & cereal quite early as the juice and milk were room temperature by my allocated time.

Response from Meg El Adm, Owner at Lamlash Bay Hotel
Responded 18 Jun 2023
Dear Guest, We are sorry to hear you were a bit disappointed with your recent stay. Room 5 is the smallest and only single room we have at the hotel ( although it does have a double bed). All our rooms are different and priced accordingly but I think you will struggle to find a hotel room ( that has a restaurant and bar on site) for less than £100 per night bed and breakfast yet room 5 was £85.50 per night. We find mainland hotel room prices have gone up as has everything else in the world from food/ transport/ wages to energy bills and that’s just a few. Part of our strategy to cope with today’s challenges is to reduce waste. Our pre ordered zero waste breakfast is an example of this. We have one breakfast chef cooking the orders of up to 30 guests so stagger the arrivals. Obviously the later you book the less availability there is. The rooms featured on “Four in a bed” were rooms 1, 3 and 11. These are superior sea facing suites and room 1 & 3 have balconies facing the bay. We have always tried to be very accurate on our descriptions so that people are aware of what they are booking and the rooms are priced accordingly. I’m sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations on this occasion but thank you for the feed back nonetheless.

There is a family suite at ground floor level which is like a 2 bedroom mini apartment. It has a walk in shower and is suitable for people with limited mobility issues. It does not have Gran rails or fittings for disabilities though. Hope this is helpful.
