We arrived on 2nd January after all the New Year festivities were over, so the hotel was very peaceful. The ivy clad hotel front with yellow door is very inviting. A warm welcome was given by the receptionist. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this old characterful hotel. It was such good value too. We used a Wowcher deal of £99.00 for the room for 2 nights, including full breakfast and a late checkout of 1 pm. We wanted a coastal view room so paid an extra £40 upgrade for this. Also included in the deal was a voucher for a free bottle of wine if spending £30 or more in the restaurant. Battered cod and chips with peas was £13.95 and a side of mixed seasonal veg took two of us just over the £30.00 which we thought very reasonable. The menu is quite extensive, including a vegetarian option. The bedroom was delightful, old certainly in style and furnishing but very appropriate to the hotel's age. I loved the partly curtained headboard and canopy. It was very clean, had a big comfortable bed, lots of hot water, selection of toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities all fine. TV worked well. Woken up by birds singing at the window each morning, and a view of the coast (beyond the car park and road) meant we had a gentle start to the day. Breakfast in the restaurant was fresh and plentiful though it would be good to have the option of vegetarian/quorn sausages/bacon and also soya milk as an alternative to cow's milk. Lovely light in the breakfast room made it a pleasure to be in. Traditional Irish music gently played via CD/Radio in the background at breakfast also helped to create a much more pleasing ambiance than the rock station music which had been playing in the coach house the night before. The staff overall were very friendly, responsive and efficient. Roaring fire in the lounge in the evening. Free newspapers and magazines in the lounge. Winston Churchill artifacts and other interesting local artwork around the lounge and foyer. For a three star hotel, we thought it was definitely up to the mark, especially as we paid a much reduced rate on the norm. I imagine it would have had a very different vibe during the Christmas and New year celebrations, but as it was peace and quiet we were looking for, our stay from 2nd - 4th January which the hotel was very tranquil and suited us well. We would definitely stay again, thank you.

My wife and I were celebrating 28 years of marriage so I decided to pre book and treat her to a surprise meal in this establishment as we had heard good reports from friends . It did not disappoint as from the start we were met by a well mannered member of staff who ushered us into the bar area to be seated. Another pleasant member of staff then checked our reservation and and showed us to our seat . All staff members were wearing masks and the seating area was very adequately spaced out . Our meal consisting of a mains and desert was very tasty and we did not have to wait long to receive it . Overall we were impressed with everything on the evening including the price and would definitely recommend the Londonderry arms to anyone wishing to visit for a meal in this coastal area .

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Londonderry Arms in Carnlough. We received a very warm welcome and the staff have made the hotel 'COVID safe' without detracting from the overall hospitality experience. The hotel is atmospheric and full of old world charm. Our room overlooked the sea and was full of character with a great mattress and soft white spotless cotton sheets on the bed. We were lucky to get a window table for breakfast which was really special. A great break and we really felt 'away from it all'. Thanks so much Denise and staff. E & A Mulvenna

Outstanding Old World Hospitality

My friend Hazel and I stayed here last week.
One of the most lovely hotels I have ever stayed in.
The hotel interior and decor is old world and charming, but the hospitality is fantastic.
I want to thank all the staff and Denise for making us feel so welcome; nothing was too much trouble.
COVID 19 is on everyone's mind at the moment, but I have to give it to Denise and the staff the hotel is spotless.
I have stayed in a few hotels lately, but none of them had the attention to detail around COVID, that Londonderry Arms have.
For instance, your towels and remote control for the TV are delivered to your room in a sterile bag.

We will be back soon,

Darragh.

Booked when we seen the Pizza night on. Really reasonable priced- 2 x 12in Pizzas with glass of wine/beer/soft drink for £20- splashed out a couple of deserts as well. Food was lovely - pizza had a nice thin crispy base/crust. Had apple crumble for desert and my wife had the chocolate brownie. You can see there has been lots of work put in by the hotel and staff to adhere to social distancing etc. Great night

This has to be my favourite hotel in Ireland and I visited for a family gathering. It is a classic piece of mid-19th century architecture set in the most lovely village location a few steps from the most beautiful harbour in the north of Ireland. Everything about it is comfortable and comforting. From the lovely bedrooms to the Arkle Bar and the joy of an expertly poured pint of stout in front of a real fire. The food is equally sound and the service friendly and genuine. Its charm is all too rare these days, and is all the better for being genuine and unforced.

Stayed for a sat & sun night (2 adults+2 kids) this July and unfortunately during the heatwave period. The room we had was very hot, i would assume partly due to a corner location getting allot of sun. While that was outside the hotels control when i mentioned it the staff really helped us and organized 2 extra fans which made the second night a lot more bearable so a big thank you for that.
The hotel itself is well described by others , do not expect a modern hotel with modern conveniences but is well maintained with that loved feeling about it with interesting features .Food in the bar I would have to honestly say is only fair and a little bit expensive for what you get .
Best bits are indeed the staff -very helpful and friendly .The location , lovely small coastal village and the hotel itself if you like the old style hotels.
Worst bits i would have to say would be the prices , our stay for the two nights B&B was €608, more than double what it would have been in Belfast, so while I appreciate you have the only hotel in town i would recommend relooking at the price per night .
Restaurant prices again are at the high end for the type of food served so overall unless i had a reason to stay in Carnlough again I probably wouldn't justify the price and just do a day trip

We were attending the Dalfest music festival a few miles away in Glenarm in what was supposed to be a camping trip. After pitching the tent on Friday morning at 11.00am the rain started and only got heavier by the hour. At 8.30pm that evening we gave up and looked for somewhere local to stay as we had a 5 yr. old with us and he was not enjoying himself at all at that point. We checked round and managed to get a couple of rooms at the Londonderry Arms. After getting my car towed out of the mud, we made our way to Carnlough. As we made our way up the coast the rain got heavier.
When we arrived at the premises, we were met by a very friendly lady whose name I forget to ask. She made us all feel very welcome despite the soaking condition we were in. She was very quick to sort out rooms and then took our clothes from us to dry overnight which was very welcome indeed. Never have I felt so happy to get into a warm hotel room and have a wash!
We then went for a much-needed drink in the bar downstairs where we were again made to feel very welcome by the barman Conor.
Breakfast next morning was very good with everything you could need and nothing was too much bother doing a slightly different breakfast for our 5-year-old Grandson.
It was so good we went back the next night to avoid the damp conditions Friday's downpour had left us with. Once again, the whole experience was fantastic with the staff being the highlight. My Grandson even got to assist with the setting of tables later on the Sunday morning. He did this with the very friendly girls doing this for a function later that day. I think he was doing a bit of mopping from what I hear!
Yes, the Hotel is slightly dated in some areas but it is more than adequate and comfortable. However, what made our stay there a touch above most hotels I have visited recently were the staff. I cannot speak highly enough off them and how we were treated from start to finish on both our nights at the hotel. I look forward to staying again in the future and would say a big thank you to all the hotel staff.

Stayed here with my Partner, exceptional welcome by the girl on reception. The room was lovely, quirky and very comfy. The food was a different matter, chicken goujons and chips, can’t go wrong, well it wasn’t great, small pieces of chicken with a lot of spicy breading, burnt but soggy chips (I know it’s difficult to do) and some undressed leaves, at £15.00 it wasn’t cheap. Breakfast the next morning consisted of a sausage, rasher, half an uncooked tomato, undercooked egg and that was it, no bread whatsoever. We were not offered cereal, juice or toast, and had to ask for coffee which when we got it was cold. I love staying at this hotel but they need to up their game where the food is concerned. The person in charge at breakfast time seemed to be very frazzled.

Our group of 18 cyclists was given a warm welcome here for an overnight stay, during our tour of N Ireland organised by Wild Atlantic Cycling. As we arrived in dribs & drabs, we were shown where to store our bikes securely - an important consideration for touring cyclists. The hotel was easy to find, being situated along the seafront. There is an attractively busy harbour with fishing vessels.
Our room was comfortable with a welcoming hospitality tray & effective shower.
The L A Hotel used to belong to the Churchhill family & contains attractive, old wooden furniture throughout.
Our party dined in a large room, seated in groups of sixes, and this to be our last evening together. Our dinner was of good value for three courses, with various choices. After a starter, my wife & I chose the beef daube - quite delicious & such flavoursome, tender meat. Next we chose the fruit crumble & custard, always a favourite with hungry cyclists. I treated myself to a half bottle of the house Medoc, while my wife appreciated her G & T.
Breakfast next day set us all nicely for our last ride to Carrickfergus.
All the staff were most helpful & friendly.
A memorable stay after a memorable tour.

Hi Happy Days, I read your review of the Londonderry Arms and a m sorry you had that experience. We did enjoy our stay there earlier this year and obviously had a better experience than you did. So maybe if you contact the hotel and let them know how disappointed you were?
