Detailed Reviews
Every now and then you take a punt on a place and are so pleasantly surprised and impressed that you take the time to write a review. This place is a gem and is a perfect proposition for families. The location is ideal and the warmth and cosiness leaves you with a homely feeling. But the place itself is only the way it is as a result of the hosts, Michael and Maebh, who are top class. Incredibly and genuinely warm and welcoming, you're left feeling incredibly lucky to have both met them and to have stayed at their place. Couldn't recommend the Slemish Barn enough. Myself and my husband David just spent the most relaxing 2 days at the Slemish Hideaway, Adele advised us of all the best places to get food and all recommendations were spot on! Accomodation was beautiful and so quiet and peaceful! Definitely will be back!

I had not been to hostels since by children had been born, and decided to try again with friends and children. Best choice ever! We all shared (budget was tight) a dorm, very comfy beds, plenty full of showers and toilets. The leaving/dining room is very large and so cosy. A plus for the cooks, the kitchen is well equipped and you'll never be short of spoons and plates! The cherry on the cake is that Michael and musician wife Maeve are the best possible hosts: giving great tips on what to visit, being genuinely interested in their guests... Making soup on a cold night and lighting the fire... I m planning to go again and try the smaller rooms (double or more) because I felt... At home!

We were helped out with a room here at the last minute when we were stuck for a place to stay.
Staff are very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Home away from home. Unique and interesting place to stay. Very laid back and has everything you need.

A super welcome, comfy beds, great communal spaces inside and out. Brilliant value for money and a great base for exploring The Glens. Couldn't recommend it more. Family rooms are ensuite, so perfect for families.

We were over for a famiyl reunion so would definitely use this again in the future. We really enjoyed our stay.

Finding the Slemish Barn was like striking gold. It is not pretentious. It is delightlfully homely. The hosts are kind and generous, and they have filled the 'barn' with an amazing assortment of nice surprises. Such a warm welcome to Ireland!

As a family with 2 young children this was a new experience for us to stay in a hostel. We were welcomed warmly and shown our room which was warm and well presented. All facilities suitable and although relatively basic were just what we needed. As it was quiet the night we stayed i cant help but think we perhaps didn't have the full hostel experience but we may be back and have a busier time then.
