Nestled in a picturesque setting near the beach, Ballygally Castle captivates guests with its historical charm and stunning views, consistently earning praise for its prime location. While some guests feel the hotel's value is undermined by pricey extras, the clean and comfortable accommodations with beautiful vistas are often commended.
The hotel's inviting atmosphere, complemented by live music and well-kept gardens, enhances the guest experience, even as some areas show signs of wear. The service stands out for its warmth and professionalism, although the breakfast experience has room for improvement.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed in the older part of the hotel in one of the tower rooms called Glennann the room was clean and tidy and had good heating which is essential if staying during the cooler months, staff as usual were always happy to help and very pleasant to deal with. We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night and the food was amazing, they also have a good selection of vegetarian options available. The hotel is literally 2mins from the beach and carnfunnock country park is only a short drive away. We love this part of the country as the views are amazing no matter what time of year you travel and you can even pop up to the ghost room if your brave enough. The only reason i havent given 5 stars is that this time we stayed we struggled to get hot water in our room, this could be due to the fact its in the older part of the hotel but would have caused problems if we had stayed longer than two nights

I chose this hotel as I was looking for somewhere Scenic and quiet and it did not disappoint The room was overlooking the sea and was bright and very comfortable with a large bathroom And everything that you would need. The food was great and even though I ate there both nights I felt there was plenty of variety . Because of Covid restrictions breakfast is served to you Instead of buffet style but the staff were very attentive both mornings The Reception staff are very pleasant and helpful any time I had a query The staff were very mindful of the Covid restrictions and I felt the measures taken made me feel safe but definitely didn’t spoil my stay in any way. Masks are required unless you are sitting down and there was plenty of hand sanitiser available. The gardens are also beautiful for a stroll around after breakfast. It was a great base to explore the glens and the coast road

Post lockdown we decided to 'test the water' & try the 'new normal' Entering the hotel we were met by the Receptionist who gave all the details of 'staying safe'. Room key card was given in an envelope with room no. & wi-fi code printed. The room was great, a side seaview of the bay & Antrim hills. We had booked a table for a meal in the bar area & the tables were well spaced out. The menu printed on an A4 page was of good variety although they were out of lasagne. Drinks were available from the bar which were served at the table & the bill was added to your card.
Breakfast was pre-ordered on a card & left on the door to be collected. The breakfast was delivered to our room at a stated time and perfectly cooked and hot.
When we 'checked out' the room cards were left back in the envelope and left in a box at Reception.
Overall it was very good & the staff were very friendly & helpful.
We would have no hesitation in returning at sometime in the future.

Seems to us that the Ballygally hotel is taking advantage of the government eat out scheme by offering an extremely poor set menu with cheap ingredients rather than the usual Lounge menu. The starter offers leek and potato soup, 3 breaded mushrooms, chicken wings or Caesar salad. Mains offers were fish pie which was 3/4 mashed potato Not one single chunk of fish with even more cubes of potato in the under mash. Seemed to me this was some left over chowder as it had small pieces of over cooked leek and celery in i looking like they had been a soup previously. Chicken curry was a pre cooked chicken breast heated by adding to a curry sauce. Chicken was dry and hard and sauce lacked flavour.
Very few staff with long waits between service.
Also and more worrying social distancing and hygiene precautions were Non existent. Hotel was teeming with a very large funeral party +70 eating from a buffet in main restaurant, and a wedding party in lounge/function room. Staff no masks or gloves. The Only precautions were a hand sanitiser on entry.
Plates and cutlery all handled by staff, salt and pepper placed on tables not in sachets. Tables not wiped down.
Unfortunately we will not be back despite the friendly and courteous staff who were run off their feet.

Dear JukeBelfast, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent dining experience at Ballygally Castle. I am glad to read you found our staff friendly and courteous however, I am disappointed to read Lunch did not meet your expectations. All staff within the hotel are provided with PPE, however this is not compulsory to wear within the hospitality industry. We have numerous sanitising stations located throughout the hotel as well as signage on social distancing. Our menus and service offerings have also been adjusted to allow us to provide food in a safe manner in keeping with the guidelines. We appreciate your constructive feedback and do hope you give us another chance so we can improve our services. Kind Regards, Kathryn, Front Office Manager.

We had a great overnight stay in Ballygally Castle. Even though we were still in the middle of very abnormal circumstances with Covid 19, Ballygally managed to make our stay very enjoyable!
Check-in was straightforward, we had our evening meal in the Lounge as the Dining Room was still closed, and a full cooked breakfast was brought to our room the following morning.
All in all, Ballygally did an excellent job of keeping us safe by adhering to all Govt. guidelines regarding social distancing, cleansing etc, but still provided a very normal and enjoyable experience!
Would highly recommend a visit to Ballygally at any time. Staff were all thoroughly professional yet exceptionally friendly and helpful, making our stay a truly enjoyable one 😊 Thank You!

Lovely hotel, fantastic location. Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly. Biggest letdown was the restaurant. Dinner menu contained only a few choices. Mushroom starter cost £6 and consisted of 3 mushrooms! £2 quid a mushroom and very soggy!! The burger was plain and dry, I had to order pepper sauce just to taste it. My partner had salmon which he really enjoyed. Breakfast was a disaster. Whilst I fully appreciate the extra measures put in place with covid it was an unacceptable standard for a 4 star hotel with premium prices. We queued for around 40 minutes to be seated with our 11 week old baby, once finally seated at a table which had been free the whole time we were queuing (we thought it was left free for social distancing but obviously not) it took another 15 minutes before anyone took our order. As there is no self service buffet the waiting staff bring your continental selection to the table. This was done quickly after ordering although it was the wrong order, we didn’t complain as they were so busy. They brought our tea and coffee at this time as well which was cold by the time our cooked breakfast arrived a full HOUR after ordering!! This consisted of scrambled eggs on one and poached eggs, sausage and potato bread on the other, nothing too exciting to justify the wait. I had to ask twice how long the food would be. My partner wanted to leave and find somewhere else to have breakfast. There were only 3 waiting staff and a manager who was taking orders to look after the whole breakfast room. The hotel was fully booked. They were working very hard and were very helpful but visibly under extreme pressure with their extra duties. The hotel needs to sort this out with extra staff and quicker kitchen service. It really took away from what was a lovely break. Over 2 hours for breakfast from leaving the room to leaving the restaurant isn’t ideal with a tiny baby and not acceptable for a four star hotel. Apart from that I couldn’t fault the cleanliness of the hotel, especially the room and the friendliness of the staff.

Dear Lynne_Metcalfe, Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I am pleased to see most aspects of your stay such as the room, hotel staff and location were positive. During these challenging times, we are committed to offering a hospitality experience as close to the exceptional service that we always strive to provide. However, I am disappointed that on this occasion your Breakfast experience was not up to our usual standards. I can only apologise for this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention - our Food & Beverage Manager is aware of your feedback and we are looking into ways of improving this aspect of the Guest Journey for all our guests. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back once the hotel reopens again. Kind Regards, Ballygally Castle.

We stayed for one night, dinner bed and breakfast priced at £180
Everything was fantastic. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. Many thanks to the short haired blonde girl at the bar for the handwritten cocktail list
Both dinner and breakfast were great
The hotel is set in a beautiful location over the road from a small beach and also has its own small rear gardens to walk around
We hope to return

We stayed in a beautiful room overlooking the sea and my daughter and granddaughter had the room next door, the rooms were spotless and beds comfortable.Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and my salmon was perfectly cooked .we all thoroughly enjoyed it.my granddaughter loved climbing the tower and the story of Isabella the ghost all added to the experience.Next morning at breakfast we were served by a lovely lady from uddinston in Scotland,I am sorry I didn’t catch her name but nothing was too much trouble for her and when my granddaughter asked for eggs ,two lovely soft boiled eggs were produced which she was delighted with. I agree this is a stressful time and it must be difficult for hotels to run on skeleton staff but at Ballygally the staff do work incredibly hard and they are very professional at making everything seem calm and relaxing.well done to you all. I wish we could have stayed a little bit longer but hopefully we will get back next year. Many thanks to you and a special thank you to our little Scottish lady for our lovely breakfast.

Recently stayed with my partner we had booked to stay on one of the tribute nights, from check in to check out we had 5 star service. The room was gorgeous, spacious, spotlessly clean fab shower and super comfy bed! The hotel itself was spotlessly clean in all areas and had a really cosy atmosphere we even ventured up into see the famous ghost room. Our stay was so relaxing and we were made feel so special and treated like royalty throughout, thanks so much to the whole team especially the duty manager Norma who is so efficient and professional at her job, nothing was a bother to her, she made us feel so welcome and made our stay just perfect. We will definitely be back can't wait to the next time

We booked on the dinner, bed and breakfast package, and weren’t disappointed. Close to Belfast, but once you leave Larne behind you it’s on an unspoiled beach, part of the magnificent Antrim coastline.
We found the staff friendly, and the hotel was a good blend of modern facilities but also historic charm. We went for one of the Tower rooms in the original castle - it could be accessed by lift and walking from the main bedroom area, or an atmospheric stone spiral staircase. At the top of staircase is the ghost room, although we didn’t meet the ghost.
Dinner was in what I believe is the modern ball room, with a picture window and splendid views up the coast as night fell. The food was good, with a reasonable selection from the a large carte menu, even if it didn’t quite have the finishing touches to merit 5 out of 5. Breakfast in the garden restaurant was delicious, with views out over the pretty hotel garden, though the lengthy queuing and rather slow service suggests they haven’t quite got the Covid-19 service arrangements right at busy times.
We would book again on our next trip to Northern Ireland.

I wore nice blouse and pants. Most others were similar but a few very casual (jeans).
No fridge
No idea, sorry, cannot help.
Lobby, restaurant and ground floor are all easily accessible. There was an elevator to upper level rooms.
Sorry I cant remember. We stayed in the castle end. Staff are very helpful so will sort you out.
