A charming and extremely comfortable B & B in a private wing of a restored farmhouse in rural Dorset. Carefully furnished, with large bedrooms, each with it's own modern shower room, and lovely views over the farm, orchard and river or the courtyard garden. Top quality bedding, comfortable beds and pure cotton linen ensures a comfortable nights sleep and every room has a DAB radio, WiFi, and tea making facilities. There is a spacious guest sitting room, with a wood-burner, always lit in winter, and a garden for guests' use in summer. The house sits within its own land, by a river, and the farm has sheep, horses and abundant wildlife. We always try to source local produce and breakfast includes eggs from our hens, homemade jams and yoghurt, fruit from the orchard, local artisan bread and creamy milk from a nearby farm. We offer a peaceful retreat from which to explore the area; the famous Stourhead gardens are just 10 mins away, Stonehenge (25 mins) and the Jurassic Coast (1hr)

Just back from a wonderful 5 night stay at Gutchpool Farm B and B. Tastefully decorated, comfortable and stylish rooms, and situated in a picturesque rural location. Enjoyed some great days out, and some relaxing hours in. Fabulous selection of books available to suit a wide range of readers. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. The breakfasts are of a very high quality and cooked to order. Gutchpool Farm really was the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow it appeared to be. Looking forward to a future visit. It is something a bit special.

I have never stayed in a B&B before, only because my partner and I do like our luxury accommodation, and luxury is certainly what you have in Rachel’s beautiful stunning home, I have stayed in a lot of holiday accommodation and never go back twice, we always like to go somewhere different, but we did not want to leave, and so looking forward to going back, and when a man says to you “ that he really enjoyed it there” that alone has got to be its weight in gold. Rachel must be the best host I have booked with, and the quickest to reply back to you too. She was even in the surprise birthday treat too 😂😂 we had the blue bedroom “ stunning “ breakfast was Devine and lovely chit chat with Rachel during breakfast too, and so nice to return from the restaurant and chill out in the lounge with drinks from honesty bar, it was the perfect weekend, very chilled out and relaxed, if you book Gutchpool B&B you will not be disappointed. And if Rachel can help or accommodate you during your stay she will, one of my request was would it be possible to leave a little later on our last day.
Rachel thank you so much for a lovely relaxing perfect weekend we cannot wait to return “ you are the perfect host”
I had one complaint ( the weekend went far far too quick ) 😢😢
Thank you

Fantastic property and surroundings. Very clean, comfortable rooms with comfortable beds too. There is a large shared guest breakfast and sitting room with lots of interesting features. There is a large dining table with a separate relaxed seating area with sofas and easy chairs. Stunning grounds and a great place for a family holiday.

Although a bit tricky to find, it was well worth the effort. Wonderful welcome from the owner Rachel who was always helpful. The farm is idyllically situated surrounded by countryside, the breakfast was excellent, the room very comfortable and everything spotless. There were good restaurants and interesting towns nearby.

We stayed at Gutchpool for 2 nights 2nd and 3rd May but I wish we had stayed longer. Rachel the owner is just lovely and made us so welcome. The room we stayed in was the Blue Room, downstairs and it was spotlessly clean with an extremely comfortable bed and great views out to the countryside. It was so quiet and peaceful, it is a shame the weather was not warmer as we would have made more use of the outside area.

Good wi fi too

The bathroom also was spotless with a large walk in shower with great water pressure.

Breakfast was served in the dining room and was plentiful with a cooked breakfast of your choice.

I would throughly recommend staying here, it was a very good find.

I do not normally leave negative reviews as I have barley ever experienced service so poor that it would warrant such a thing.
That said, our experience at Gutchpool farm was staggeringly bad and I feel compelled to warn others about this B&B.

I booked a 2 night stay in September so that my husband and I could have a well earned mini break in the peace and tranquillity of the countryside.
I had researched the property and observed all the positive reviews, so felt confident that we would enjoy our stay.

A couple of days before check in, we received some information from the hostess about the B&B- nothing out of the usual, just check in times and house rules etc.
It stated that check in was from 5pm. I replied to the hostess to let her know that we would be arriving at the property between 2-3pm. We had a long drive and wanted to make the most of our short stay and the beautiful weather. I also stated that we could leave our luggage in the car if the room wasn’t ready and we would go on a walk in the surrounding countryside until we were able to check in. Perfectly reasonable, I’m sure you’ll agree.

We arrived at the farm house on a beautiful sunny day and the property is indeed stunning.
We parked up and thought we would see if any one was around, to introduce ourselves and let the hosts know we had arrived. The main guest entrance was locked so I called the mobile number on the email.
The hostess answered and I explained that I had a reservation. Her tone was curt and abrupt and she replied that they didn’t open till 5. I replied I was aware of this and we would simply like to acquire a map of the local area and maybe use the bathroom before we head out on a walk. She let out a long sigh and said that she was on a meeting. She sounded thoroughly annoyed that I had bothered and inconvenienced her. I couldn’t wait to get off the phone and went back to the car to let my husband know that we would put on our walking boots and make ourselves scarce until 5pm.
At this point, the alarm bells were going in my head as this was NOT a good start.

We headed down the farm track, admiring the gardens and sheep on the way to the road. As we got to the end of the road, we decided that we would head back to the car and find a local pub to have an early dinner.
As we got nearer to the house, a voice shouted “excuse me”. It was the host. We walked towards her, waving and smiling and introduced ourselves.
What happened next, was simply bizarre.
She stood looking at us disapprovingly and then verbally spewed her annoyance at how we had the audacity to arrive at the B&B before 5pm.
I have worked in hospitality for over 13 years and I have never so much as witnessed anyone speak to customers as disgustingly rudely as this hostess spoke to us, let alone experienced it. My husband and I were totally shocked at the way she was greeting us, making us feel like we were trespassing on her property.
I explained that we had a booking, and that this was no way to be welcomed. She replied that she would have welcomed us at 5pm. I find it very hard to believe that this Rottweiler would suddenly switch to a gracious hostess at the strike of 5pm!
There was no question about it, my husband and I could not stay at this property after being spoken to so unbelievably rudely.
We got in the car, in disbelief and drove away. We tried to find alternative accommodation but it was already almost 4pm and everything decent was booked up. We had no choice but to return home.
We were very disappointed as this was supposed to be a relaxing break.

The property looked beautiful and I’m sure that the room was too, but the utter contempt and hostility from the hostess meant this this B&B will go down as being the worst encounter of terrible customer service that we have ever experienced.
I understand that running a farm may be the owner’s primary job, but if this is the case, hire extra staff to take care of B&B guests or don’t open your home up to guest at all.
If you do decide to stay at this B&B, woe betide you if you arrive before 5pm... you are likely to be spoken to as though you are a criminal.

A truly shocking and disappointing experience and a total waste of time and petrol.

To give a 1 star rating of poor is overtly generous, I would give zero stars if I could.

We needed to be in the Gillingham area for a weekend and as there were no traditional hotels in the area, we booked in at Gutchpool Farm for two nights. The B&B annexe of the farm is newly created to a very high standard - far superior than many 5 star hotels we have enjoyed. The decor is beautiful, cosy and homely with luxury beds, bedding, towels and toiletries. The best room is on the ground floor, with ensuite and door to garden. Rachel the host makes the most amazing breakfasts, freshly squeezed orange juice and so much choice to eat for hot and cold. We had trips to Lyme Regis and Stourhead and came back in the afternoons to a home baked cake which was still warm. The setting is amazing with chickens, horses, sheep and nice walks. We loved it so much and stayed an extra night. It is everything the other reviews state on Booking.com and more.
