If you are the type of person who is bored with the bland impersonality of chain hotels and faceless organisations, then this might be just the place for you. We don't have all the amenities of the big monolith hotel institutions, but instead we offer more subtle benefits such as a warm friendly ambiance, a sense of bonhomie and a genuine personal passion for making your stay as wonderful as it possibly can be. Right in the centre of town, just a 3 minute walk to Market Square, Ziggurat has the very unusual advantage of being totally central and yet feeling like you have been transported to another world. See the hustle and bustle of town and the retreat here for good music, lively conversation and an extremely comfy bed. When staying with us we want you to relax and feel like you are at home. It's an informal atmosphere - no stiffly pressed starchy matching uniforms, no bored receptionist, no nightly turn-down and not even a smidgen of towel art. It's a place of fun, of good times and a hub to enjoy meeting people from all over the world who, for some reason or other, have ended up landing on Guernsey's shores. We would love to take the time to sit down with you to share coffee, drinks, ideas and hear a little about your life story. This is our work, our passion and where we spend the majority of our time, so it is important we enjoy the Ziggurat experience as much as you do.

We dined at the wonderful Ziggurat and had one of the most exciting dinners we've had in Guernsey for a very long time. The food was exceptional - thank you so much to the wonderful chef Daniel! The place itself is absolutely stunning and the service is wonderful. I think people are unaware that you can just go here for a drink or dinner any day of the week. You must go here - it is a hidden gem!

This hotel is a hidden secret - slightly quirky but lovely friendly staff and clean comfortable rooms. You do need to approach from the top of the steps as it’s a long climb up otherwise but it’s well worth the effort. Breakfast was really good - particularly recommend the bruschetta with chorizo, avocado and poached egg, and we took up the offer of a heated hut on the terrace - really unusual idea but it works. We didn’t eat in in the evening but the menu looks good and had we stayed a bit longer (we were only there three nights) we would have tried it. The rooms are quite small but really comfortable with individual balconies overlooking the town and the harbour and plenty of space to sit out (although we didn’t in very wet January!) The refurbishment is almost complete and it’s been well worth it. Definitely a place to stay if you’re in St Peter Port Guernsey.

This was going to be a glowing review for a really lovely hotel. However, my stay was ruined by the female on reception asking me, as I checked out, whether I was the “token female” in my team. What?! How dare she?! I was so shocked I just said no. Now I’ve gathered myself I’d like to add that I am the most qualified in my team, the most experienced in my team and was there LEADING the team. No I shan’t be returning to your hotel.

Response from Genevieve L, Owner at Ziggurat
Responded 18 Dec 2019
Dear Sarah I have phoned to apologise in person, but have not been able to get through as yet. I am dismayed that I offended you and that my question obviously came across in the wrong way. I was interested, and rather impressed, that you seemed to be working in a male dominated industry. What I intended to be asking was whether many females also worked in the team. It obviously came across the wrong way and I can only apologise for that. It was absolutely not meant as a slant on either you or your role. There is nothing I can do to take back that moment, but I do want to reassure you that I intended to be communicating with respect and admiration for what you were doing. I can only apologise for my lack of care with my words. Genevieve

10 minute bus ride from the airport to the bus terminal then a short walk to the bottom of those steps. I can see why the preferred means of access is from the top down! 105 steps then into a cosy reception area, easy check in, lovely aromas of cooking coming from the restaurant, all good. Room was compact, nice fresh chocolate fudge in the fridge on arrival, complimentary water, tea and coffee with fresh milk in the fridge. Bathroom was a bit small but you're not gonna get palatial spaces on a small island. Then my only gripe. Soundproofing. Could hear the people in the next room speaking and especially coughing, maybe why ear plugs are provided. Might just be me being a bit sensitive. I mentioned it to staff and was promptly given another room which was perfect. Breakfast was fantastic, I especially liked the way the restaurant is laid out, with plenty of space to move around between tables instead of being crammed in like you see in some hotels. Lovely grub. If you want quirky there are some huts in the garden to sit and eat in which looked cool. You can get a bus ride round the island (clockwise or anti if you wish) takes just over an hour but there are no queues, no crowds of people just a few of us on there, but it was the end of November. There's a lovely little home made pizza and pasta parlour called Bella Delicatessen in Fountain Street cheap and tasty. I found lovely people in Guernsey, really friendly, no crime, like a step back in time. A word of advice..I couldn't book a taxi for love or money despite the very best efforts of the lovely south African lady on reception on the Sunday morning, but there is a bus from the terminus. What made the hotel a success for me was the staff. So calm and helpful and if I go back to Guernsey again I would stay at Ziggurat but might bring an oxygen mask with me..

I have just returned home from two night's at the exotic Ziggurat hotel in St. Peter Port. The website gives some idea of the unusual ambience of the place, but underestimates its tranquil environment, comfortable and tastefully furnished rooms, fantastic views of the harbour and sea, high-quality breakfasts and first-class evening meals. Add to all this, the unobtrusive, but friendly hosts, excellent cleanliness and proximity to the centre of town, and this is a hotel like no other - not to be missed. Thank you for a wonderful stay, and I hope to be back soon for a proper holiday! (My only regret was not to get my 'free' glass of prosecco!

Nice boutique hotel halfway up Constitution steps, so not suitable for everyone. My wife and I liked the morrocan theme running throughout the hotel and especially the small bar and dining area. Our room was compact but had a nice terrace with stunning views of St Peters and the hotel garden complete with huts for eating and drinking. Tea and coffee provided with lovely fresh milk. Comfy bed and a small but perfectly adequate bathroom. Breakfast was a mixture of cereal and yogurt with fruit and a choice of three freshly cooked hot options. Breakfast was good quality products. As stated hotel in a difficult place with suitcases you could have an issue but having said that we would stay again.

Just spent 2 nights here. Location was great, we knew what to expect with the steps so we were prepared - not a problem and at the bottom we were right into the centre of town. Room was small but cosy, comfy bed and nice bathroom. Our issue is that we didn’t like the shared balcony that runs outside, we would have preferred a bit more privacy, we like to leave the window open but we were concerned that anyone could walk along and look in! We also found that the lock on the door only just fastened, one good push and it would be open! Lots of noise to be heard from the room above but not much they can do about that, I chose not to use the ear plugs they supply! Breakfast was okay, my husband liked the cooked options but I wasn’t keen, just different tastes I suppose! Continental stuff was very good. The first day we could hear banging noises in our room from the renovations near to the bar/restaurant area. We went to the bar at 5.15 for a drink before going out but found the work still going on and stuff out everywhere. They very kindly moved everything for us but we felt very uncomfortable and left quickly! Next morning we went down for breakfast and the noise was there again, you would think that they would leave it until breakfast ends at 9.30! They have an option of a free glass of Prosecco if you choose not to have housekeeping. We chose this option and put the requested star on the door! We went down to the bar at 8pm to get our free drinks but there was no one there, we waited and waited and no one arrived so we went back to the room and drank our own- very disappointing. We checked out the following morning and were halfway down the steps when a lovely lady from the hotel came running down the hill with a box of pills that I had left in the room. I wish I could remember her name, I’m so grateful that she did this, not sure many others would. Overall we had an okay stay but if nothing else it was really good value for money!

Steps were navigated easily by this 71-year-old lady. Just stop and breathe as you go along. (Or start at the top and come down.) Single room was beautiful and the balcony had a commanding view of the town and the church. Gourmet breakfasts overlooking the town again. Plenty of light in the room, shelves, great shower. Free glass of prosecco each day if you don't want your room cleaned. New mattress is coming.

Ziggurat is a wonderful boutique hotel with only 14 rooms, so it is very comfortable and cozy - and the service is impeccable. Very personalized. All of the staff are very friendly and interested in you and what you do while you are there. They even offer umbrellas for your use! Rooms are not huge, but that is not why most people go on vacation - to spend time in their room. I stayed in one of the loft rooms and had a great view of the harbor, the castle, Herm, and Sark. Very comfortable bed, great shower, shared balcony outside my door, which I was able to use when it is was nice out. Very good food in the restaurant, with plentiful breakfast options included. Lots of steps, which is great for those of us trying to keep active. Very close to the bus terminals as well as the harbor. Also very close to the peaceful Candie Gardens. Small refrigerator in the room, so I could make use of the co-op across the court from the Constitution Steps, as well as the food hall in Marks & Spencer, just around the corner. A computer and printer are in the lobby area, making it easy to print my boarding passes. I highly recommend this hotel. Even locals who asked me where I was staying and would I recommend Ziggurat were pleased to hear about the benefits of the hotel.
