Enjoyed an incredible 2 days enveloped into the comforts and all the loveliness on offer at Marlfield. Stunning accommodation, grounds and comfort. Amazing food and service. Cannot wait until my next stay...and will not be waiting 4 years to revisit! Superb on all fronts, many thanks to Dawn & all the team, we loved it
Had afternoon tea today. What a delightful, and warming welcome. Service personnel were efficient, effective and more importantly friendly. Selection of treats were just delicious. Wonderful atmosphere and staff that made us feel totally safe.
I don't wish to be unfair in this review and while the overall experience of the Marlfield is above average the room brings this rating down. The building is stunning, grounds gorgeous, beautifully appointed common rooms, attentive and well trained staff, outstanding food in both the main restaurant and The Duck. A few things took away from our stay and given the 1 night stay cost over 700 euro including dinner I feel they are fair to point out. None of these would have been complaints worth bringing to anyone's attention before we left but info I might have liked to have had before I committed to the booking. When booking I let it be known that the occasion was my husbands 40th birthday. I have stayed in many fine hotels and it is very standard the management acknowledge a special occasion in some small way. Let me be clear I had already booked a suite so I certainly was in no way looking for a "freebie" upgrade but it would have been nice on check in if the staff member had wished my husband well on the occasion of his birthday. Likewise a small token left in the room would have been a nice touch and one I would absolutely expect in a hotel of this type. It would have cost nothing to have left some homemade cookies or a couple of chocolates with a compliments slip saying Happy Birthday. I don't intend for this to sound petty but I really did feel it was a missed opportunity on the hotel's behalf. Friends of ours had ordered a bottle of wine to be left in the room which it was with 2 glasses but no corkscrew! Perhaps a genuine oversight. We of course would have gotten one no problem but we didn't end up drinking it. We stayed in the Stopford Room. The immediate reaction is impressive but there is an element of style over substance to the room. Firstly and in fairness this is not the hotel's fault but this room is literally right beside reception and depending on activity in that area it can feel like people are right outside your door. The doors rattle each time the main entrance door is opened, a tad irritating. The windows of this suite also look directly out onto entrance so it does not offer much privacy or sense of escape from the world. Again this is not the fault of hotel but I do wish I had realised this before booking and I would have chosen a different suite. The furniture and soft furnishings have a jaded elegance to them. The carpet is old and pretty shabby. The drapes were obviously very old and particularly in the bathroom quite stained. The furniture was striking but with little practical function. The chairs by the fire were impractical and small. You wouldn't curl up with a book on one. There was no dressing table with mirror in the room despite having a walk in wardrobe. The lighting in the bathroom is awful. A combination of weirdly bright and not good light. The light is not adjustable in the bathroom so if you did want to relax in the bath you were doing it with spotlights over your head. Not overly inviting! There was 1 750ml bottle of water left in the room.. There was some fruit left on a plate which consisted of mandarins and bananas. For a luxury hotel I would think they could improve on what is usually included in a child's lunchbox! It actually induced a chuckle it looked so odd. A few grapes and maybe a pear would have livened the look of it up a bit. A small touch that with very little extra effort could have looked like a special addition instead of something fairly basic or an afterthought. The covid compliance in the hotel is excellent. Completely faultless in that regard. You would have no qualms that all staff are following all guidelines and all areas were regularly cleaned. We loved relaxing in the library and drawing room and both areas are very inviting. I wish I could give a better rating than a 3 because the Marlfield has huge potential to be an outstanding short break destination.…
5 star treatment and food and did not disappoint in dinner or breakfast A real treat We visited during COVID and it wasn't used as an excuse to reduce service offering once and we didn't feel like COVID was a factor during our stay. Would definitely return as a treat.
Absolutely faultless Staff amazing and service exceptional. Had dinner in the Duck restaurant again food and staff amazing. Short walk to Gordy from Hotel. Beautiful grounds to stroll around .. particularly the woodland walk and the kitchen garden . Will be back .
