Nestled along the Monangahela River, Hyatt House Pittsburgh-South Side provides an inviting atmosphere with its pleasant views and social spaces, such as the veranda. Guests applaud the friendly service and the hotel's prime location, which offers easy access to local dining and city attractions. The well-furnished rooms come with the convenience of kitchenettes, although some visitors have mentioned wear and size as minor drawbacks. While the amenities generally receive positive remarks, the added cost and limited parking, along with the average breakfast options, are areas that some travelers feel could be improved.

We stayed one night at the Hyatt House Pittsburgh-South Side and was pleased overall with the stay. However, there were a few minuses, and I'll start with those. First, one elevator was out of service (the one closest to the front desk). The other elevator, however, was frequently held up by workers renovating the upper floors of the hotel or by maids with carts. When we arrived, we had to go up 2 flights of stairs after waiting for the elevator for quite a long time. When we checked out today, it was stopped at the 4th floor for a long while, likely while workers loaded the elevator up with old furniture that they were tossing out into dumpsters. Luckily, I only had a small bag and was able to maneuver the stairs (although I do have an ailing left knee, that certainly felt the impact of going down 3 flights of stairs this morning). Those who are less agile, make sure you call the hotel to see if both elevators are in service. The second problem was the condition of some of the furniture in the room, particularly in the living room area of the suite. This is being rectified (as noted above). Maybe ask for a renovated room at check-in?

On the posiitve side, the bed and pillows were quite comfortable. I often dislike hotel pillows as they are either too flat or filled with foam that I cannot manipulate into a comforatlbe position, but these were great. Water pressure in the shower was also good and bathroom amenities were fine. Breakfast was totally adequate, wioth a hot selction of scrambled eggs, sausage patties, potatoes, and pancakes, although disposable plates and cutlery were used instead of washable items; a change from a previous visit. The location along the Monangahela River was pitcturesque, and it was right in the heart of the South Side development with lots of national chains, but also local restaurants along E. Carson St. 2 blocks south of the hotel.

This hotel is in a newish shopping/American Eagle area immediately off the Hot Metal Bridge and on the heritage trail along the river. The hotel has limited underground parking (but tip: the Ingot lot across the street is $5 cheaper per night). The staff is very friendly and informative.
The rooms are well arranged and private for a stay. There's a nice full kitchenette in the rooms, which helped with food and coffee. The workout room is very well equipped.
Breakfast was subpar at the time we were there, but the person hosting it was really friendly and efficient.

Cleaning staff laziness sours a near exceptional stay on the South Side. Full fridge kitchen with cooktop, but the spoon sticking in a yogurt in the fridge was concerning. Two bedroom suite more than accommodated my family of four, but a sock left in a seemingly made bed had us rushing to the front desk late at night for fresh linens (was told it was noted on my stay). It was just a shame that such a beautiful hotel at a great location fails to get the room ready for my famiky despite our late check-in noted on my reservation. That was all. Everything else was satisfactory to excellent. Breakfast was plenty in choices. I stayed the weekend so I opted for the cheaper parking across the street (about 9 bucks each night; very easy setting up on smartphone). The dogpark (okay I guess I brought my family of 5 then) was open at times. Wonderful that this hotel is pet-friendly and has reasonable fees for such. The pool gave enjoyment to my two girls (water was too cold for my wife). Set up my reservation to have a 2pm checkout (Discoverist) and was offered two bottles of water at check-in, which I took because my 11 yo just bought the latest trending water bottle. View was great. Saw some barges passing by and had a view of the Cathedral of Learning (HAIL TO PITT!! Take 'em to the Big Dance Coach Capel!!). Had a great MLK weekend getaway! Please, don't let your cleaning staff bring down your hotel. Would very much like to return!

Check in took 10 minutes because of only one staff member. The hotel parking garage was filled with remodeling materials haphazardly placed in parking spaces. Clearly no one thought of guest parking when placing the materials in the garage spaces. The breakfast bar consistently ran out of items and guests had to wait. Staff ran the vacuum at odd times of the day and night, for instance during breakfast buffet time, when people gathered at tables for breakfast.

Positives: the staff. Everyone was great and very nice.
Negatives: nearly everything else. The room was much smaller than expected. The fold-out couch was awful, felt like it had no mattress at all. The HVAC in the room was deafening. The chairs in the kitchen were as uncomfortable as any I've ever sat in. The weird built-in chair next to the TV served zero purpose and was wildly uncomfortable as well.
Breakfast was terrible. When we first arrived (40 mins before breakfast ended), all hot dishes were gone. Took 10 mins to refill. The hashbrown things were still frozen in the center. Eggs were unidentifiable as eggs. Even my kids who are not discerning passed on nearly everything.
The main elevator was out of service, and the first-floor bathrooms were constantly closed for maintenance/cleaning.
Overall, a very disappointing stay.

A nice enough hotel that more than met my expectations. Not "Luxe" but a good facility for weddings given their riverside plaza. Great upscale district with good dining options, you must drive 5min across river via "Hot Metal Bridge" and then a brief tunnel to access downtown. A spacious suite type room arrangement that provided both living room area and kitchenette. We did not try the complimentary breakfast or use the pool. Could have used a nightlight in the bathroom so as not to disturb sleeping area; silly smallish pillows would support BYOP if particular. Self-parking beneath hotel available for a reasonable fee, but squeamishly tight, especially if you're dancing in an SUV. Nice staff, secure environs, walkable area, hope to return sometime.

Hotel was clean and in a nice location. Good view of the river and a large dog park across the street. Breakfast was very good as well. My only complaint is the hotel has a small parking garage attached. I purchased a parking pass at check in and then in the evening when I returned all the spaces were full. Fortunately, a public parking garage was available across the street but frustrating because I had purchased a pass for the hotel garage. After explaining the situation to the front desk person he quickly refunded my parking pass without any resistance. Overall, a good hotel and I would stay there again. However, it can't be difficult to keep track of how many parking passes are sold for a day and then stop rather than overselling the garage and complicate customers stay.

The location of this hotel is the reason to stay here. Close enough to downtown, walking distance to grocery stores and restaurants, and on a bike path that leads directly to downtown (with easy-to-rent bikes nearby) this is the only reason I'd consider going back. But the rooms were just ok. The bed was very comfortable, which is what matters most, but the TV has no internet options (no Netflix or Amazon Prime, etc) so you are at the mercy of the rotation of the very slow TV guide and whatever is on at that moment. They have hook ups so that you can connect your computer to the TVs but if you didn't bring your own HDMI cord, they are useless as the hotel has none for guests to borrow. The couch in the room was extremely uncomfortable. It had no arms and the center was curved so there was no comfortable angle to lean on. We basically had to sit straight up whenever we were on it. Also the kitchen has a strangle lack of supplies. We had two forks, two spoons, four bowls, four plates. If you wanted to eat more than one meal in the room per day, you had to hand wash the silverware or run the dishwasher. We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and it was too long. I would stay here maybe for a weekend if I intended to just sight see the whole time because, again, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was really good. But for an extended stay and for anyone working from the room (there are no desks) I can't recommend this hotel. Also, for the COVID conscious, most of the staff members here do not wear masks and breakfast is back to a full buffet. That didn't bother me but if you want a hotel that's being careful, this is not for you.

Pros: The hotel is in a good location with pool, gym and parking garage. It has a nice view of the river with walking trails and blocks of shopping around it, although COVID has taken a toll and many shops are closed down, but there are still some good ones. It is very accessible by car to visit Downtown, the universities or the Southside. There is a nearby rental bike hub. It is at walking distance of some nice coffee shops, restaurants and the nigh life that the Southside offers. Rooms have modern furniture with nice lay out. There is a functional kitchen, sofas and some rooms have desks. If staying for only a couple of days the breakfast is good and plentiful.

Cons: If you are used to softer mattress or have some back problems, stay clear of this hotel as the mattresses are very hard and uncomfortable. I was constantly waking up turning and tossing the whole night trying to find a comfortable position. I was traveling with others and got the same feedback from all of them with some of the older folks complaining about back aches. The discomfort was more than the usual when one sleeps in a different bed than yours. The parking garage is a bit small and has many double parking spaces that require you to leave the key if blocking, but I was always able to park in the garage. If staying for more than 3 days, the complimentary breakfast can get old quickly due to lack of variety. I stayed for a full week and the warm breakfast always contained scrambled eggs. They varied sausage patties, bacon, potatoes and chicken sausage links sides every other day, but it would have helped to have hard boiled eggs, ham, cheeses and other fruit salads besides the cantaloupe and honeydew mix. Sliced breads, bagels cereals, oranges and bananas were always part of the offering. Coffee and tea are included, but the coffee was horrible. The room is cleaned up only if requested in advance. It would be nice if they did it as prior to COVID, or at least every other day. Prices before and after COVID do not reflect this drastic reduction of room clean up.

Where do I begin ? The beginning - The parking garage at the Hyatt is a total disaster, you have to choose between spaces fit for a smart car or choose to park two deep and leave your keys at the front desk in order to allow their staff to move your car is someone you're blocking needs out. SOMEONE, unclear still who it was, unlocked our door and attempted to come into our room at 8:15am, thank goodness the bar was latched across the door to prevent whomever it was from entering. DOGS BARKING, there is a dog park directly across the street from the hotel, and at 6:30am, the dogs begin barking, so forget about sleeping much later than that. I give it two stars instead of one because there are several place to eat within walking distance and Pins Mechanical across the street as well. But other than that, its a one star for me and my experience.

Valet parking is under the hotel. However, there is a garage right across the street. During the week, use either for similar price. On the weekends, the garage across the street is much cheaper and very easy to access.

Just valet. You won't save much if anything by self-parking because street parking is almost non-existent so you'll have to pay anyway. And the commercial garages are not in-and-out so unless you let the car just sit you will actually pay more.
