This hotel is in a good location, is easy to get to, and is fairly new. However, a bunch of annoyances make it a decent but not good or great place to stay:

1. No silverware, even paper plates in the room. No napkins, nothing. If you bring something to eat, you need to run down and ask for at least paper plates and plastic forks and spoons.

2. The internet connection is marginal at best. For business travelers, this is a show-stopper. I ended up using the hot spot on my phone.

3. How about a hook to put your coats on close to the door? No place to hang them unless you use the closet all they way in the far end of the rooms.

4. Same thing with towels in the sink area - the designer or hotel should have put a towel bar on the sink or on the wall next to the sink. Instead, you need to leave even hand towels hanging in the bathroom.

5. The $22.00 parking fee is extremely over-priced given the location. A reasonably priced room suddenly gets a little too pricey for me.

I'll probably go to one of the hotels on the north shore for my next trip.

Hello Sheldons664 Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. 1. No silverware, even paper plates in the room. No napkins, nothing. If you bring something to eat, you need to run down and ask for at least paper plates and plastic forks and spoons.--Starting on January 1st, hotels do not have to put them in the room...however, I will let the front desk know to mention that at check in time and provide the plates then so you do not have to travel back down to the desk. 2. The internet connection is marginal at best. For business travelers, this is a show-stopper. I ended up using the hot spot on my phone. My apologies, we are reviewing several bids from providers to upgrade the network. 3. How about a hook to put your coats on close to the door? No place to hang them unless you use the closet all they way in the far end of the rooms. That's a great idea. I will share this with the maintenance team to see about installing a hook close to the door in several rooms so you can hang the coat there versus back in the closet. 4. Same thing with towels in the sink area - the designer or hotel should have put a towel bar on the sink or on the wall next to the sink. Instead, you need to leave even hand towels hanging in the bathroom. Will have maintenance team look at that. 5. The $22.00 parking fee is extremely over-priced given the location. A reasonably priced room suddenly gets a little too pricey for me. We are considered a downtown property and completed a survey with similar properties and thought we were priced right...will share this with above property leaders. Again thank you for this great feedback. Management.

We all know the times we live in, but to completely mail it in because of COVID is not an excuse. When we checked in the front desk person listed all the things they would do because of COVID. Clean your room, Breakfast, etc. In that situation the hotel should then go above and beyond on the things they do do. No basic black tea at breakfast, only one roll of toilet paper in the room, minimal towels in the room, one tiny bottle of shampoo. If you are going to make your guests go down stairs for everything they need, please make sure you have the basics ready and stock up the room with common sense extras. Mailing it in, which is not the Marriott way....regardless of a pandemic.

We love Springhill Suites and overall the accommodation was ok but given it was 3 mikes from town the price was rather high and $22 for parking was ridiculous. I actually had to remake the bed as the top sheet didn’t come far enough up the bed to cover us. Breakfast was ok but not as good as other Spring Hills we have stayed at. The shuttle was a nice bonus and the service was great both in and out of the city. There was a Cheesecake Factory and a HofBrauHaus close by but they were crazy busy on the Saturday night we were there so we had to walk a bit further to find dinner. Not sure we’d pick this hotel if we come back to Pittsburgh unless their prices were more interesting.

Hello Anne, Thank you for taking time to write a review for our hotel. We appreciate the feedback. I apologize for the sheets and will review this with the housekeeping department to make sure that does not happen again. Our location is nice since we are close to numerous restaurants and bars in Pittsburgh's South Side neighborhood. This past weekend, there were several events impacting rates. Next time you are in town, please contact me at 412.488.8003 and will assure you that you will get the best rate possible.

I have never had my kids complain about a hotel. We choose Springfield (and Homewood) Suites because we need the extra bed/sofa bed. You would think while people are venturing out in a pandemic management would make a point of having everything sparkling clean. Instead, the first room we were in was just gross. Dirty linens were still on the sofa bed, the roll of toilet paper was not new, there was hair in the soap dish in the shower, and it overall did not appear clean. Then the rain started and water started coming through the ceiling, so we had to move. There were also buckets in the hallway. The second room they showed us was also not clean, so we turned it down. The third one was better. There are some serious issues at this property. No discount offered, by the way, despite having to change rooms due to the roof maintenance problem.

Hello Mom Triathlete, I apologize for the issue with the housekeeping you experienced during your stay. We shared your experience with our housekeeping department to let them know that this is unacceptable in any environment, but more so now during a pandemic. As for the roof, we had a roofing company come out and make the needed repairs to prevent further issues. Again, we apologize for this. Springhill Team

My husband and I stayed here this past weekend to have a nice evening in the city before our baby arrives next month. When we got to our room it had a musty smell. We had dinner reservations so we really didn’t want to complain and have the hassle of changing rooms. When I bathed that night there was pink stains on the shower curtain and J noticed how dirty the bathroom mirror was. When i woke up the next day I noticed the same pink stains on the pillow case I slept on. Breakfast was good and we left at check to receive a notification from our bank an hour later we were charged a $250 fee. When my husband called to see why we were told it was a smoking fee for our room. We were upset and offended because it was freezing that night and had they done any investigation they could see my husband go outside several times during our stay to smoke. He doesn’t smoke anywhere near me as I am a expecting as I stated and I also can’t stand the smell. I’ve never gone through this before at a hotel and we were advised to dispute it with our bank. So a stay that should’ve cost only $140 turned into $390 for 1 night. This hotel never contacted us or anything about the charge. We were refunded $22 but they should’ve refunded the $250 we were charged and we will never again stay at a Springhill suites. We also contacted the corporate office and will make a complaint with the BBB.

These folks answer the phone at 2 AM and were able to welcome me with a smile and an available room after the nearby Hyatt couldn't seem to honor a reservation by opening the door or answering the phone.

I stayed here 1 night, they gladly stored a suitcase for me for a week while I biked the GAP and C&O, and then welcomed me back with a smile (reservation this time) upon roughly midnight arrival from the train.

I was on the side away from the train track both times, but heard absolutely nothing all night. Room clean and comfortable, resulting in good nights of sleep.

With COVID still in the environment, they've done an above average job on free breakfast with plenty of space to spread out and eat, and everything well stocked.

While there are COVID reminders for spacing and elevator use, masking is mostly absent. Food service staff was masked.

Considering size of rooms, location and big city, this is really a good value as well. Plus, they let me take bike to room.

I have never stayed in a filthier hotel. I had to call the desk clerk to see for himself. The sheets were dirty, every table top was smeared and sticky, the bathroom was definitely not clean (disgusting). There were no other rooms available. The very sweet desk clerk cleaned the bathroom and my sister and I changed the sheets. There was pepperoni and pizza on the floor and crumbs in the sheets. All this in a time when we are supposed to be using caution and sanitizing everything. Gross!!! I will never stay at SpringHill Suites again.

Being a suite it was bigger than we are used to. Liked the bathroom set up with the sink outside it. Good beds. Good view. Fine straightforward breakfast. The area felt pretty safe and is a short walk to a fun German restaurant and also the hop on hop off bus and is also a short Uber to the river cruise area. The renovations didn't really bother us. Our car was fine in the parking lot. The staff was pretty nice. The only thing that bugged me a little was the train that goes almost under the place. My wife and I discussed if perhaps a different room would have resulted in less noise. I didn't like it, but it wasn't enough to really cause a problem. The hotel is not in the downtown area. There is an overhang so if it's raining or snowing you should be good when you arrive.

I'm always reluctant to stay here based on a bad first experience I had years ago, but my hotel of choice was full up, so I landed here. I wasn't surprised to find that it's even worse now than it was back then. Between the old mattresses, the constant train noise from the tracks 10 feet behind the hotel, and the lack of any soundproofing measures whatsoever, I find it very difficult to get a good night's sleep here. At all hours of the day/night, you can hear every door slam in the in hall, every conversation that wisps past your door, and, if you're really lucky like I was, the ramblings of a disgruntled housekeeper venting her frustrations about how bad her job sucks. I was also quite disappointed that the outdoor patio was completely closed. Not just that, but it clearly hasn't even been maintained at all. With all the weeds and junk growing out there, it looked like a scene from Jurassic Park! So much for enjoying a nice summer evening outside... However, the absolute crown jewel of disappointment would be how dirty the hotel was. As I said, the housekeeper clearly had a poor attitude to begin with, so I'm not shocked that the finer points of service were completely overlooked. My advice: be sure to inspect any- and everything before using it. When I went to make a cup of coffee, only one cup was still wrapped in plastic; well, that's because the other 3 were all used! DISGUSTING!! I've included pictures of one of them for reference. After this experience, I'll never stay here again. I'd rather stay across town and fight my way through Pittsburgh traffic to get to the South Side!

During a three night stay, we had to call security two of the three nights due to loud parties in the room next to us at 2-3 am. The first night involved a leaf blower (wish I were making this up), and the second involved clear statements not only of their drunkenness but of their use of illegal drugs. Not only was security unable/unwilling to quiet the noise, but on the second night, they also provided the partygoers with the room number making the complaint. I do not appreciate this risk to my personal safety.
