The Oaklander Hotel, Autograph Collection boasts a welcoming atmosphere complemented by modern amenities and rain showers, which have earned praise from guests. Nestled in a prime location, the hotel's cleanliness and convenient proximity to local attractions are frequently highlighted. While the rooms are generally well-regarded for their comfort and contemporary features, some guests have expressed concerns over the warmth and basic aspects.
The service quality appears to be hit-or-miss, with reports of both friendly professionalism and disappointments in staff responsiveness. Additionally, while the amenities like a well-equipped gym are appreciated, the value proposition is questioned by travelers who point to inconsistent pricing and a desire for more exceptional offerings.

I have stayed at this property 3 times in the past 6 months! Here’s are my observations.
The Great:
First and foremost, this property is clean, in fact I’d say immaculately clean. While I would not recommend it, I believe you could proverbially eat of the floor if you had too! The rooms (I’ve stayed in 3 different rooms) were absolutely spotless, no dust, no dirt, just clean!
The rooms are relatively large and feature a “push-cart” type piece of furniture which holds the in-room coffee service (Nespresso). These are not “cookie cutter” big chain rooms. They are truly nicely decorated and very well lighted. The beds were comfortable each time and there is plenty of light and room to work at the desk. There is a multi-outlet on the side of the desk which features 120v and USB connections but is not necessarily visible when you first sit down. In case it rains they provide you with an umbrella (the bell staff has extra downstairs) The bathrooms are large, well provisioned, and the shower quickly heated with plenty of water pressure. The closet is a freestanding wardrobe which is lighted when the door opens.
Bonvoy (Platinum & Titanium) members are treated well and are offered a $10/pp breakfast credit, plus of course the extra points.
Areas needing improvement. Yes, a few areas for improvement, emphasis on a few! Breakfast service (and you can see this in other reviews) was hit or miss a few times however it should be noted each time the staff did everything in their power to correct any situation which went awry, including not charging us when on one particularly bad day, they were encumbered by delays in the kitchen. Things sometimes do go wrong, but they made it right!
Business center: They don’t have one and it would be helpful if they did. To be clear the staff offered to arrange printing of any document I needed but I still prefer to print certain confidential documents myself. Like I said, the areas needing improvement are minor!
The Phenomenal:
The staff all of them from Johnny downstairs, to Peggy & Kaitlyn at the front desk, to Aurora and Andy at the bar/restaurant where amazing, caring, and truly looking out for all their guests. They are all worthy of the title “Hotelier” and their GM should be PROUD! I know there are more names to mention but those were the only ones I could recall.
Overall: this hotel is absolutely phenomenal! look forward to a few more nights there this year!

The Oaklander Hotel was an amazing place to stay in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. It's super-convenient to the Pitt and Carnegie Mellon campuses and lots of restaurant and shop choices within easy walking distance. The rooms are well-appointed and spotless. They're actually really big, too. But as with many Marriott properties, the people make the stay even better. It's unusual, but the lobby is on the top floor, so you ride the elevator up to it from street level. But my guess is you'll immediately be greeted with a smile just as I was. At check-in, Je'Lynn took exceptional care of me, even highlighting some of the area attractions to check out if I had time. Like the welcoming atmosphere of the hotel, from the beginning of my stay she made me feel at home. Everyone else in the hotel, from bar to housekeeping also seemed like they really enjoyed being there, and it made it feel like a 5-star hotel. You won't go wrong staying here. An easy choice when in Pittsburgh.

We stayed at the Oaklander for a week over Thanksgiving and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A family member lives near the hotel and we would definitely stay here again if we were visiting. It’s also very convenient for individuals or families of patients receiving care at UPMC. We stayed in one of the larger rooms which was more expensive but worth it to us. (Prices were very reasonable compared to similar NYC hotels.) The room was modern, nicely designed, and included nice touches such as movement sensors for floor lighting and plenty of convenient USB charging plugs. The TV could be controlled from your phone and the bathroom was nicely designed and included all necessities. The bed was fine, firmer than we like but probably comfy for others. The checkin staff were pleasant and efficient and packages of masks and hand sanitizer were available at the desk. The majority of guests and staff wore masks though we were surprised that our housekeeping staff didn’t seem to do so. Since we were away from the room most of the day, we weren’t too worried but enforcement of staff masking would have been more reassuring. The valet service for cars was highly efficient and the phone app for requesting car pickup worked very smoothly. Again, we’d have preferred if valet staff were masked in our car but they did roll down the windows. We also had an excellent experience in the hotel restaurant where the staff were very responsive. The food was good (not Michelin quality but tasty). Our waitress when we ate there on two occasions was very friendly and made us feel welcome. (We didn’t catch her name but she had on a colorful mask and I’ve reviewed the restaurant separately.) All in all, we had an excellent stay. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend the hotel highly to others!

This hotel is at the heart of the PITT campus and valet parking is required unless you park in an adjacent pay parking garage. I arrived late and waited about 10 minutes for the valet to show up to take the keys for the car. As would be expected, the hotel room was a modern updated room; very comfortable. There is no convenience shop in the hotel or nearby. You can have snacks, water, and other beverages delivered to the room for a fee and there is a restaurant/bar on site however often very very crowded. It’s a nice upscale hotel however few self-serve amenities and no executive lounge if you have status with Marriott. There is a Starbucks less than two blocks away if that is your thing.

Disappointing. Lovely facility, great location, great bellman and front desk staff. But parking and bar personnel were rude and indifferent. Housekeeping was severely understaffed and therefore slow to respond to any request or find time to clean rooms—gone from room between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 pm and overworked housekeeper could not find time to clean occupied rooms. (Nice lady, did good job, cost-saving inadequate staffing seemed to be the issue. ). Manager was very pleasant but seemed ineffectual.

Newer hotel within the University of Pittsburgh urban campus. '.' walking distance to Carnegie-Mellon University, Carnegie Museum Library, Music Hall, and the Scaif Gallery. This was my first time at a Marriot Autograph Collection . was a bit surprised everything .was smartphone centric including all hotel info, room service, restaurant reservations, requesting your valet car, etc. so make sure you are charged up. They advertise as 4 stars and do have the requirements but I would say more like 3.5 because the do it yourself on your phone makes it less welcoming or personal. Now I will say my interactions with staff were all good so this is not a nock on them. The room itself had a nice bath with a separate rain shower. The view was nice from floor to ceiling windows. The floor was all wood (probably laminate) which was clean and modern but there were no rugs which would have warmed up the space considerably. The resturant and bar was nice, however one of the nights of my stay the resturant and bar (after the dinner hour) was closed for a private party so I could not enjoy a drink before turning in. This is not something I expect from a 4 star property. Still this is the most convenient property for people visiting the Pitt or CMU campuses or with business in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.

We've stayed here 3 times and each time we find something new to love here. As soon as you pull in you're greeting with the kindest and most helpful staff members, you immediately feel like family here. The rooms are incredible down to the smallest detail, like soap that smells amazing, comfy robes, the beds and pillows are so comfortable, and the bathrooms are next level. We highly recommend the Truffle Chicken & Poutine at Spirit & Tales, the bar staff is highly trained and very attentive. Whether it's work or a romantic getaway this establishment needs to be on your go to list! We can't wait to go back!!

My boyfriend and I live near Pittsburgh and were looking for somewhere to have a little romantic getaway on our off days. This hotel exceeded our expectations! The hotel itself and the rooms are beautiful and very clean. The employees are oh so friendly, especially Jon the bellman! Definitely the perfect person to be welcomed by guests when arriving, and a memorable final interaction when checking out. Everyone was very attentive and quick to deliver food, amenities, and anything else we wanted. The food from their restaurant was delicious. In the rooms themselves, they’ve thought of nearly everything you could need! Beds are comfy, room temperature easy to be controlled, bathroom soaps smelled so good, and rooms are quiet (we even had an adjoining door in our room). The location is also perfect and just a car ride or easily available Uber ride away from many activities to do. Definitely worth the money and highly recommend!

Location can not be beat. Right next to all University of Pittsburg main buildings. Clean and modern with the very good restaurant on site. Few things of notice. Due its design lobby is located on the 10th floor, next to the restaurant. Parking is $38, but you can park across the street in the undergrounds garage for much cheaper, and especially if you are going to UPITT event for accepted student, you will get the parking in this garage for free. Parking attendants are efficient, but when asking the prices for the garage across the street, he said 'no idea" ;-) Yea, right... So you either pay $38 in hotel with valley, or much cheaper across the street. One thing that we definitely did not like is the luck of adequate hot water temperature in the shower, I think it was already mentioned in other reviews, but it is still a problem. If you like hot shower you will be very disappointed. BTW, I can concur previous comments about hotel pillows, they are horrible. If you can, bring your own, your neck will thank you. If hotel management is reading these reviews, hopefully they will address these issues. All in all, this is probably the best hotel to stay for any UPITT events. It is the most expensive option, but you can apply free nights if you have Marriott Bonvoy credit cards.

I had been so excited to stay at the “new” Oaklander hotel in anticipation of staying with extended family for upcoming Pitt graduation. I was quite disappointed. Where to begin. The most frustrating thing I think was the lack of a night table/stand for my eyeglasses and other bedside items on the one side of the King-sized bed, or even at least just an outlet or USB port to charge my phone overnight. I had to pull the desk chair over to use for my stuff and was fortunate that my husband packed an extra-long extra charging wire that I plugged in on an adjacent wall outlet and ran up to the chair. I’ve attached a picture to show the set up. This was an experience reminiscent of the times we’ve stayed at the old motels along I95 that were built pre cell phones. And in fact, even some of those motels have retrofitted for bedside phone charging on both sides of the beds.
I was also very disappointed in the Nespresso coffee maker in the room. Neither my husband nor I drink coffee but bring our own tea bags expecting to use hot water from the machine. Not this time. The machine ONLY brews from the pods (which seemed to only produce a very small amount of coffee anyway. Frustrating. We had to call down to have hot water brought up for our tea each day.
On the positive side, the staff we encountered were all exceptionally nice and accommodating which was a huge plus.
The bed had a substantially firm pillow that didn’t smush into a pancake when you put your head on it.
The outdoor deck on the 10th floor outside the restaurant was so nice! It’s only too bad it isn’t larger.
I am hopeful that the roughly 2-year young Oaklander will work on addressing some of these concerns as the location is so convenient.
