Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh, Curio Collection by Hilton, offers a convenient downtown location that's a hit with guests looking to explore on foot, despite some noting a lack of nearby activities. The hotel's amenities, including comfortable beds and a rooftop terrace, generally receive praise, although the limited space and occasional cleanliness issues are drawbacks.
While many appreciate the clean rooms and effective housekeeping, the overall value is questioned due to the high costs relative to the small, sometimes poorly maintained rooms. The service and atmosphere receive mixed reviews, with the staff's helpfulness offset by concerns over attentiveness and room ambiance.

The staff was great and the accommodations were perfect! I was greeted by the front desk person every time I entered the lobby and received a good morning greeting from the room cleaning staff. Lastly, the rate I paid was very reasonable compared to other hotels in the area. I’ll be back!

This hotel is in a good location; walking distance to many downtown sites. The bed wa comfortable, however the room was extremely small- hardly space to get into bed from the sides. Also, there are no housekeeping services; during our four night stay no one entered our room to make the bed, provide clean towels, or even empty the garbage cans. I had to call down to the front desk three times to get some fresh towels and when they finally came they brought one towel for me and my husband and no bath mat even though I had specifically asked for one. Service in the restaurant was awful; the waitress acted like she wa doing us a favor by seating us. We only ate breakfast there once and didn’t go back after our experience.

The hotel is nice, bed comfortable, food credit is appreciated. However, the breakfast had us seated on the second floor while the kitchen was on the first floor. They only had one waiter running his butt off. He did a good job considering. I was seated where I could watch the food being prepared and saw numerous dishes including ours sit for quite some time under the warming lights. Please reconsider your morning staffing.
There is a parking charge I don’t remember being mentioned but it seems every downtown hotel Hilton owns tacks that on.

Terrible hotel. On par with an old Hampton and absolutely should not have the Hilton Curio title. They claim the rooms have been recently redone and they are disgusting (see attached photos). The first room I was placed in had a huge stain on the carpet in the entryway, mold/dirt on the bathroom ceiling and slimy pink disgusting shower grout. I was given a second room that was marginally better but same issues with bathroom grout. The towels they stock in the rooms are old, small and frayed. The pillows are a disgrace—like you stuffed some cotton balls in a sack. No laundry bags in the room. No pen in the room. No cotton balls or qtips in the bathroom. The housekeeping staff does not replace the toiletries when they clean the room. On night 4 of my stay in the middle of my shower I ran out of both conditioner and body wash in the large bottles in the shower because they hadn’t refilled them. The next morning, another guy was at the front desk complaining of the same issue—his wife was currently in the shower and shampoo ran out. I used up the body lotion and they did not replace it. After my first night, I got no housekeeping service. They said I would have had to request that at check in—well no one tells you that at check in, apparently you are supposed to guess. So I came back at 9:30pm to a dirty room and they said sorry, housekeeping staff is gone for the night we can’t clean it until tomorrow. They offered me 20,000 points for the inconvenience—one night at this dump costs 50,000 points, so the compensation they provided was basically worthless. There are no “do not disturb” signs to use on your room door. For breakfast, they had limited counter service—the restaurant is under construction and they have no clue when it will open. One morning I ordered the berries and yogurt and the berries they gave me were all rotten. Someone came to the front desk and asked for water and it took them 10 minutes running around in the back to find these people a water bottle. The front desk staff is completely clueless. The management is doing a terrible job here and should be embarrassed.

I have never come across hotel staff who knew so little about famous surrounding locations and landmarks, made no effort to find out and overall were comfortable maintaining such low standards of basic hospitality and courtesy. I had a short stay at Joinery located in downtown Pittsburgh in July 2024. The experience was disappointing in many regards. While making my way to my room, I heard an employee aggressively berate another employee regarding her performance. She did this in full view of guests including myself. The hostility made all who heard it visibly uncomfortable. Later, I asked reception where the David Lawrence Convention Center downtown is located. Despite there only being one convention center downtown, they told me they did not know. The person asked two of his coworkers, neither knew. I asked if there was a downtown map available. He made a very brief effort to locate one and again asked a coworker, neither could locate one. A third employee located one right there at the reception desk. Even with the benefit of the map they were unable to locate the convention center. I told them I was told it was directly across the street from the one and only federal building. They didn't know where that was. I asked them where Market Square, a very well known downtown location where restaurants and live entertainment is located. Again, they did not know and were unable to locate it on the map. Later, a fourth employee who I believe was the manager was able to direct me to these locations, all of which were a few blocks from the hotel. Upon booking the hotel you have the option of electing to include breakfast in the hotel dine in restaurant. The person I was with did so. They told me the choice was very limited and the food was not good. I thought they may have been overreacting. Later, while riding the elevator, one guest asked another about the restaurant. He was told it was "ok, only ok." He recommended the guests go to dinner in market square (referenced above) which they did as I ran into them while I was there. The evening before my departure I asked reception how I can reach I-579 which is a main highway that leads directly into downtown. Three employees told me they did not know and appeared to have never heard of I-579. One employee told another he thought it was a highway. Again, the entrance ramp was only a few blocks away. There are many higher quality accommodations in downtown Pittsburgh with much better service. I will never stay at Joinery again.

Pros: The Joinery was modern, clean and fairly well situated to many Pittsburgh attractions. It was easy to take an Uber almost anywhere in town and I think our most expensive Uber was about 20 bucks to get to the Shadyside neighborhood. Most cab rides were around $12 bucks…We used the valet service for the car for about 41 bucks per day, plus tip. It was easy and convenient.
Cons: While some of the staff members were very sweet, others were perfunctory at best …and sometimes even a bit rude. The rooms were very small and lacked a lot of amenities. For instance, if you want something like a Diet Coke at 2 o’clock in the morning, you’re simply not getting it. We could not find so much as a vending machine! Also, the area is in the business part of town, so there’s really nothing to walk to safely.
Would we stay here again? Yes, but not without packing drinks for the room! And not without checking other hotel prices first.

I can’t really rate the actual hotel because I only stood in the lobby before canceling my reservation. My husband and I planned on staying the weekend but upon arrival we were greeted with an overwhelming amount of homeless people around the building and parking area. It smelled of urine and weed. I felt completely unsafe walking 10 feet, yet alone walking around during nighttime hours.
The area of the hotel is not ideal or safe. Tents, homeless individuals, people cat calling, and unpleasant smells override anything this hotel could offer.
Unfortunately I was still charged a nights stay despite being told I would not be charged at all. Even being out the $270, staying at another hotel on the Northside of town was worth it.

Stayed here with my daughter. Booked it with points. After reading the reviews from others, I did not have high hopes. I personally like boutique hotels because they’re small and intimate. This place did not disappoint me. It had everything I needed for an enjoyable stay. Everyone says the rooms are small. They were actually spacious enough for us. I also like the fact that they had whole shampoo bottles inside the shower so you didn’t have to remember to take those little tiny bottles in there. The bar and restaurant are still under construction, but they’re on a completely different floor, so unless you go up there, you don’t even know there’s construction going on. They have a mini bar cart at night. In the morning, they have free coffee and you can buy pastries for a dollar or two. I like that better because I’m tired of eating free nasty breakfasts that hotels serve nowadays anyway. The highlight for me was the rooftop terrace! It was a quiet place to enjoy a beautiful view of the city, and you can see the Ohio river. The staff was friendly and helpful - there is valet parking for $25, which was convenient. The only con was that the non-dairy creamer was curdled, and that’s the only negative thing I can say. And we could easily walk to everything that we wanted to do from the hotel.
