Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I made a reservation for my 20 year old daughter through expedia. There is no mention of age requirement of 21 years in the rules and restrictions. Front desk refused to honor the reservation, refused to reconsider when we called as parents to vouch for her, refused offer to send another adult to the hotel to check her in, and refused to help in anyway and turned her away past 10PM at night. I subsequently also confirmed that even if you book directly through the hotel website, you can go all the way to the payment screen, click on the rules and terms and there is no mention of the age restriction. Sounds like a nice ploy to take money from people while providing no service with this "hidden" age restriction on a hotel close to a university

Hotel's Favourite
I always stay at Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh University Place. Sam and Ashley that work in the bar/restaurant are always up beat, friendly, and with a big smile on their faces. Always great to see them after a long day. Their attentiveness and service is always appreciated. Blazee is also a great guy and provides excellent customer service. The front desk employees are always friendly, professional, and courteous as well, as are the valet attendants. Add clean rooms and lots of towels, and there is not other reason to stay anywhere else! See you again next week Sam, Ashley, and Blaze! Keep up the great work!

We were here for a wedding on the campus of Pitt. This was a convenient spot for that, just a short 10-15 minute walk or a short Lyft ride away. The property is old, but the rooms were nice enough and the staff was very friendly. The common areas were nice as well. The elevator is slow and quirky, the shower head needs replaced. I understand that the property is getting an update soon, like a lot of properties in the area are going through now.

Shabby. Smelly. Old. Unkept and way past its prime. Room smelled like wet dog. Stayed here Saturday and Sunday, 10/28 and 29 for a family gathering. Dark and dinghy room. Mildew on shower threshold and shower towel bar. Frayed, ratty-looking bedspread. Never received folio via email as promised. until I called two days later and requested it. On it, they had my address listed as someplace in Las Vegas, NV! Never received an satisfaction survey. Still haven't, even after specifically requesting one.

It feels dirty and worn. The pillows are lumpy, the curtains and chair are stained. The bed is either stained or unwashed, and the heat/AC unit is super dusty… it sounds like they’re getting a Reno soon, and I’m guessing they’ve just stopped keeping up with things. I’m here for a wedding, but the room looks like it’s been partied in pretty hard for many football seasons 😆 If you’re looking for a place to crash after a game, this might be your place. If you’re looking for clean hotel room, probably not.

The rooms are 70's motif and need an update but because of the location, it is a popular place to stay. Why update? The 2 night stay was over $525 and there were 2 bottles of water in the room for $2 each. They just can't give you a bottle of water? The bath sink was clogged. The restaurant never seemed open. No room service. Valet $30 a day.

Nice sized room with fridge, microwave, ice machine in hall, and a Keurig. Perfect location if you have a kid at Pitt. Docked one star because the beds are very firm and not comfortable. They have a coffee/tea station by the front desk. I also noticed that they have laundry machines on the 6th floor which is an added bonus.

Very nice property, well maintained and friendly staff. Room was well equipped and the bed was comfortable. Valet parking was efficient and there's a package with AAA that saves on that. restaurant and bar were a plus.

Nice and clean hotel but not very up to date in its decor. Great proximity to the University of Pittsburgh. Not very fancy but definitely adequate. No self parking or street parking available. Had to pay $30/night because I didn't feel comfortable having my family walk in that area at night.

We toured Pitt. Easy walk around campus. Close to great restaurants. Hotel staff very nice and accommodating. Provided cot and Chris very helpful. This is our second stay for campus tour. We plan to come back for our next college visit in the future with another kid. If one of them goes here, this will be our go to hotel.
