Located conveniently near PPG Arena, the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center garners praise for its strategic location and sweeping city vistas. While the rooms are celebrated for their spaciousness, guests have voiced concerns regarding cleanliness and dated decor. The hotel's ambiance and amenities are recognized for comfort and space but are marred by reports of outdated features and inconsistent room service. Service is largely considered professional, yet some visitors have encountered lapses in attentiveness. Travelers often find the hotel's value questionable, citing a disparity between cost and quality.

This place really needs a renovation. We stayed in one of their better rooms and the drain in the bathroom sink barely worked and when we tried to watch a Netflix movie it wouldn’t download. We’ve stayed at over 100 Marriott properties and this one is one of the worst especially for the price they charge. It was convenient to the arena which is why we chose to stay here but next time I’d walk a few more blocks to stay at a better hotel.

The check in process was painful. The clerk have never seen the rooms and could not offer advice on room size and amenities. As a titanium member she put us in a corner suite with a sofa bed Room was very nice and spacious. We had access to club lounge but open on weekdays only and closed at noon on Friday. We had a nice breakfast in the morning with scrabble eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, oatmeal, cereal and various pastries and breads.
Brian who supervised the lounge was wonderful. On the weekends we got a full breakfast buffet at the main floor restaurant. Very good breakfast with fresh made to order omelettes. Staff were wonderful.
The hotel is across the street from the paints arena where the penguins play. We went to a game , so convenient. Hotel is very busy on event days.
The hotel is not close to many restaurants or fast food. To walk to the strip area was 40 minutes and to market square 20 minutes.
The hotel is getting old and not to the standards of other Marriotts.
The pool is closed permanently.
Some front desk staff lacked knowledge of hotel activities.

Dear haileythegolden, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your corner suite and the amenities provided as a Titanium member, including access to the club lounge and the full breakfast buffet on weekends. It's fantastic to hear that Brian and the rest of our staff provided wonderful service during your stay. However, we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during the check-in process and for the limited hours of the club lounge. We have shared your concerns with the appropriate individuals to ensure this does not happen again, and we want to thank you for your feedback which helps us improve going forward. Your feedback about the lack of nearby dining options and the age of the hotel has been duly noted, and we appreciate your honesty. We will strive to address these concerns and make improvements where possible. Thank you for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Sincerely, Thomas Murtha Director of Operations

Frequent guest at this property. Reasonably nice, though slightly older/more worn than your average Marriott (but no cleanliness issues). The Renaissance is better but usually too expensive for my company policy. Location is alright, very convenient to the PPG Arena and Duquesne University. The Renaissance and Courtyard are better options if you're looking for a good downtown location within the Marriott family. My only mild gripe about this place however is they never give me room upgrades or lounge access as a Bonvoy Gold (while I'll get them 30-50% of the time at other Marriott properties). In fact they usually stick me with a room next to the elevators even though my Bonvoy profile requests the opposite. Also please fix the door leading from the garage to the elevators! That thing is going to knock someone off their feet one day if it hasn't already.

The hotel in general is nice; and most the staff we encountered were very pleasant. The rooms are very large, and the bed was comfortable. But when we tried to order room service in the morning, the app designated on the card in the room wasn’t working. I called down to the front desk to see if room service was currently being offered, and a very nice woman took our order and manually submitted it to the restaurant, which was very kind of her. She then confirmed that there was a problem with the app, and that the manager was aware of the issue.

When the food came, the gentleman thrust two bags in my husband’s arm, said “You good?”, and jetted off down the hallway. Ok, that wasn’t great, but fine. But then we noticed several items were missing. I called down to the desk just to make sure I wasn’t charged for them, and definitely didn’t speak in an entitled or unkind way. The rudest woman I’ve ever encountered at any hotel (different from the one who took my order) said that ‘they didn’t offer room service so she’d have to check on this’. (There is a card in the room with a code to open the appropriate app to order room service). When she came back on she asked what we were missing. Our missing items included two coffees and a milk. She said “We would never let you order coffee in room service because there’s a coffee maker in your room.” I said I understood that there was. She asked if I actually ordered it from the menu, which I confirmed. She again repeated that there was a coffee maker in the room, and told me she would have the charges removed. She doesn’t appear to have made that change. For the record, I’m aware there’s a coffee maker in the room. I just prefer more creamer or milk, and the one in my room looked like it could use a good cleaning.

So - again, everyone else was wonderful, the location is great and very close to PPG arena, and they have some decent food options (in the bar/restaurant). But this completely ridiculous nastiness was enough to keep me from returning and giving an otherwise very nice hotel a poor rating.

Our family stayed here for one night (Saturday to Sunday) in July. We prefer Marriotts, however of the 10+ hotels we have stayed in over the past year, this was the worst.

The city was busy the weekend we stayed - most hotels were sold out, including the Marriott. We did not get into our room until 4pm check-in time. Our room had a king + sleeper sofa, where our kids were sleeping. The sheets for the sleeper were just sitting on the shelf in the closet (usually you find them in a bag with a rip tag so you know they are clean). There were no extra pillows provided for the sleeper, and when I called to request 2 pillows, they stated they had run out of pillows at 2pm. Pretty wild. In my experience, pillows for each person are standard for a hotel and especially one that cost as much as we paid.
Also only had one washcloth stocked in the bathroom.

Self parking was easy in the attached garage. The hotel is within walking distance of downtown Pittsburgh, and we felt safe making the trek.

Would not stay here again - I recommend the Renaissance for a downtown Pittsburgh stay.

This Marriott consistently provides one of the worst experiences ever, and foolishly, we keep coming back. We’ve stayed here three times since March 2023 because our daughter goes to Duquesne, and it’s conveniently located off the freeway and in the city.

The property is standard, yet updated and reopened after a closure during the Covid shutdown period from my observation.

The staff tries their best but are ALWAYS overwhelmed. Quite honestly, I have to assume ownership and/or management don’t hire enough staff and provide enough support.

We’re here now on Saturday, August 19, and presently waiting nearly an hour and three requests later for linens for the pullout sofa. There should be a set for of linens in the closet so this request isn’t even necessary!

Further, and upon arrival, valet is overwhelmed, registration lines are long, and the snack shop is depleted.

I can’t even begin to describe how awful our experience was in June when we traveled to Pittsburgh for the Taylor Swift concert and stayed at this property. My best description is that it was like being at an airport when all flights get cancelled and everyone carves out a little corner, bench, or space on the floor to call their own (because no one can get on their flight, or in this case, in their rooms). Registration lines lasted well into the wee hours of the morning, and I’m not kidding.

That said, the rooms are spacious and staff works diligently — there’s just not enough of them for this busy city property.

The air conditioner did not work at all. We called down, they gave us another room. We moved all of our things to the 2nd room & that air conditioner didn't work either. Finally the third rooms air worked. but didn't work well. The rooms bathroom door was made with frosted glass. So if your partner is sleeping and you go to the bathroom, the room is lit up completely. No way to avoid that unless you go to the bathroom in the dark. The final annoyance was the constant drip from the shower head on the metal drain cover. I ended up putting towels down to muffle the noise. What a miserable stay and the management did nothing for us.

We stayed here during what was a very busy weekend. A weekend that was known to this hotel for a year. A weekend that could have been ruined if we had of let it. This hotel was left with inexperienced management and we were left scratching our heads wondering how a Marriott allowed this to happen. We paid an exorbitant amount. We could not get in to our rooms at the ‘guaranteed check in time’ or anywhere near that time (4PM), could not shower for the Taylor Swift concert - we were told to get ready in the hallway upstairs with hundreds of other guests. We did just that with patience and respect to the staff working there. After the concert (we had paid for both of our rooms around noon bc they said it would be faster come time for them to give us the keys) we were then asked to wait in a huge line up of another hundred people. At 1 AM!!! With 4 teenagers this was completely unacceptable and baffling. We stay at Marriott’s all across North America and I’ve never come across anything like this. They treated it like a state of emergency when it was a known event for over a year!!! My sister and I are both Marriott members and will be taking our business elsewhere. I advise you to avoid this hotel at all costs due to the management who really shouldn’t be calling themselves management at all.

We booked a room here with a group for the 4th of July weekend and so we could do other events around town.

Almost immediately, we had trouble getting into our room. The lock was clicking but wouldn't unlatch. The front desk was helpful and sent up engineering immediately, but after struggling with the door and getting the door open, he told us that there's nothing wrong, it just takes a little elbow grease to open and walked away. Other groups down the hall were having the same trouble, and he just told them to talk to the front desk and walked away. Needless to say, we continued to struggle with the door for the rest of our stay.

The room itself was nice, though it felt like it was due for an update. The biggest issue once we got inside the room was the AC unit. No matter how low we set it, it just wouldn't cool off and just continuously blew the fan. Again, we went down to the front desk and they were very helpful and sent maintenance back up. Well, once we got back, the fan was blowing harder, but it still wasn't cooling off.

We did try to sleep, but despite having the thermostat all the way down to 60, all of our phones were reading between 78 and 80!

By the time one in the morning rolled around, we all decided to pack up and checked out early.

I made reservations at this hotel 2 months ago. Just received an email saying they cancelled the reservation. Customer service stated that they overbooked the hotel and since other platinum members reserved after me they cancelled my reservation. They admitted they have no statement on their website that states that the reservation may be cancelled if they are full and a higher level member makes a reservation ( i am a member ). Then I receive an email a few minutes later from Brian that states that unfortunately my reservation is cancelled due the hotel being closed through Oct 2022 due to the Covid Pandemic. I call back and find out, that that email is a lie. It's open it;s just now sold out. Will never stay at a Marriott hotel again.

My granddaughter, age 16, and I went to the lounge and it was packed with adults. there wasn't a seat. it was before the Blake Shelton concert. It is very easy you can walk or take the T which is like a subway system. The T is right at the bottom of our hill. Walking is about 2 miles and will take about a 1/2 hour.
