My friend had her husbands 40th birthday tonight at the Temperance House. It was a surprise party. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The room was beautiful When the owner Kathy realized we were a larger party than expected she personally brought another table out to accompany all the guests. The servers, especially Josie and the bartender in the room with flamingos on his pants could not have been nicer. If you live in the area or want a cool spot to get great food at a reasonable price check out the Temp!

this inn is located upstairs in a historic tavern in the heart of Newtown Our room was on the second floor, and was huge, containing a sofa/seating area in addition to the king size bed. A fireplace was in the corner.
the bed was comfortable, which is probably the most important point.
a few things to keep in mind: Parking is located at the rear of the building off the alley. Access from the parking lot involves going through the banquet room, when the back door is unlocked. Otherwise you have to walk around the block with your luggage to gain access.
the lodging is located on the upper floors, and the building does NOT have an elevator. This is not a location suitable for anyone in a wheelchair.
the tavern on the main floor does offer live music, and the tavern noise can filter upstairs to the guest rooms. In fact, we ate dinner in the tavern, and ended up racing through our meal to escape the volume in the dinning room..
Our room had a definite historic feel to it, but I was disappointed by the damaged plaster ceiling.
the bathroom was a bit of a challenge, as it is very tight space.
the electrical outlet was oddly placed, making more difficult to shave in the morning.

I was travelling for work and needed a room for a single night. The Inn offers an $89 business traveler rate and you must call to book it. I sent an email and the owner Kathy got back to me the same day and booked the room for me. For history lovers, this is a very interesting place to stay. I had dinner at the tavern and Kathy showed me the restaurant dining room that George Washington met with his men in during the Revolutionary War. Dinner at the Tavern was wonderful and reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly. I stayed in the Haunted Porter's Room which I was a bit nervous about but I'm pleased to stay that no ghosts bothered me! I will definitely stay here again if I return to town.

So i cant believe no one else has complained about this...but i was staying in the hotel and its hard to sleep with live music till 10pm...rooms too close to the action they should give out free earplugs. I called and asked to move to a room farther from the music and was told that a room was available but would be 20$ more dollars. i feel like since room WAS empty (which it was) why not let me move to accomidate a guest who didnt know in advance how loud it would be...i really value sleep exspecially when i pay for a room to do it in.

We arrived and no one was at the front desk at all To check us in. Had to call and wait for someone The room was musty, old and not clean. The bedspread was really disgusting. The bathroom was not clean. Rusty metal towel rack and mold along the tub. Air conditioner did not work. They knew the one room we booked was over the tavern and the music was loud and kept my friend up all night. Ironically when we were leaving in the morning, they asked how loud it was??? Couldn’t wait to leave. Definitely wouldn’t recommend

We definitely will stay here again. Check in was easy and the room was very clean which is the upmost importance for us. It is in a great cute town and plenty of places to grab something to eat or get a coffee. The tavern also has their own restaurant. We got a few appetizers and they were good. The store fronts in town have great Halloween art work on their windows which was fun to walk around and see. We love that that this place has old charm and like I said we will be back.

The inn is quaint, but the bar noise is quite loud. Nothing was offered at the Continental breakfast. No return phone call when we inquired about breakfast and a room change. The bed was okay, but sheets and towels were low end. I grew up in town and was excited to stay here. Stay wasn’t terrible, but not exceptional either.

The room was ok. Clean which is the most important. Comfortable beds. Had a tv I thought it said free breakfast but it does not come with breakfast just coffee and juice. Could be a little cheaper. I needed two beds. Had a nice bar with good food for dinner. Really enjoyed that. Nothing fancy in the room but it was ok.

Charming inn, lodging, and excellent staff. Delicious dinner in the quaint tavern. Inn doesn't have a parking lot; but there was ample parking on the side street. I was at the inn for a week and liked it so much that I'll be bringing my wife next time!

Good vibe kind of place. The mixed cocktails were horribly made. I give it 3 stars because the food was pretty decent and the service was great. After all the other local places close around 10pm, this place can get pretty packed. Luckily we got there about 10 minutes before the crowd to get a bar seat.
