Detailed Reviews
My husband and traveled to Milford PA to have a nice getaway for our wedding Anniversary. We wanted to stay at a place that was pet friendly, felt Covid-19 safe and where we could enjoy the autumn leaves. We had a great stay, the only downside was noise on Saturday night from outside a local bar across the street. The other nights during our stay the bar was quiet. We stayed in room #1 on the ground floor. The room is on the smaller side, but comfortable. Every once in a while we could hear noise from the room above, but wasn't that big if deal.
It's difficult to travel during a global pandemic, but we felt safe our entire stay. All staff members wore mask as well as other guest, who were good about wearing mask in the public areas. We brought our 12 years old dog (Labrador Retriever) with us and she was given star treatment. There was a water dish already in our room, she received a bone at check-in and she received lots of attention from the staff throughout our stay. The continental breakfast was nice, we were able to eat outside on the front porch, which had heaters. All tables were spaced far apart, so again we felt safe. The second day of our stay, the hotel owner introduced himself to us and gave us lots of great tips on places to check out during our stay, very appreciated. On our Anniversary, we order dinner for pickup at a nearby restaurant and ate in our room. Later that evening we had drinks and a dessert on the front porch under a heaters. We received fantastic service. We also brought our dog out with us and she was offered a bowl of water. We haven't been out for drinks since the start of the pandemic and felt safe outside at the hotel bar. It's been a strange year, but we had a great trip and look forward to returning some day in the future.

We stumbled on this hotel gem while searching a list of Chateaux et Relais in the region. While Fauchere is no longer claims this distinction, my wife and I though its appearance, condition, service, and restaurant were remarkably pleasant. The best aspects were the size and quiet of our room (#11), the attentive staff at the front desk who offered help on dinner recommendations or where to keep out bikes, and the dining room setting for the complimentary breakfast. Also worth mentioning is the ease of parking in the lot behind the hotel and the perfect location proximate to eating and shopping. We were disappointed that the Bar Louis was temporarily closed owing to a very recent pick burst. To their credit, there were no signs of what we were told was extensive damage. I would recommend this location for a quiet couples getaway from the city where it is easy to experience a quiet, polite, lifestyle for a while.

We were looking for safe places to travel from our home in New York without travel restrictions that still offered out door dining. We had driven through Milford Six years ago and visited but did not stay in this hotel. We chose to visit this time because of their convenient location, Relais & Chateau affiliation and their impressive COVID protocols they sent us. We also saw their county had the lowest infection rate in their state.
The hotel was nicely renovated and had good amenities. We particularly liked the shower and the heated floor in the bathroom. The room was not as grand or as well appointed as other Relais & Chateax Properties we are familiar with but the pricing for this hotel was much lower and reasonable for its level of quality.
We were there in early December when it was about 40 degrees and were were able to enjoy breakfast and dinner outdoors on their porch which had a wonderful heater. They offered an interesting menu and the food was well prepared and enjoyable.
We also appreciated driving around Milford and visiting Grey Towers and one of the waterfalls. We also enjoyed taking the long way from our hone in New York to drive through what is called the eagles nest on the New York side of the Delaware River.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your thoughtful review! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your time with us! With our outdoor dining, it may seem funny to dine outside in 40-degree weather but we've found that with the cozy blankets, the 6,000 watt infrared heat lamps and even portable heaters, our guests are warm and cozy. We are just 75 miles from NYC and a little bit off the beaten path, but we're delighted to hear you found the numerous waterfalls and perhaps some eagles! The history of Milford is just wonderful as it's home of conservation and the founder of the U.S. Forest Service, Gifford Pinchot. The spring and summer months are just stunning! We hope to see you again soon!

I don't typically write reviews, but my family had a very poor experience at this hotel, and I want to share my feedback in hopes the hotel improves in the future.
The hotel itself is beautiful, centrally-located, and has a lot of old world charm. While the hotel is advertised as a Relais & Châteaux property, the customer service that we experienced did not live up to that standard.
My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 2 days in mid-October 2020. Despite informing the hotel that we would be coming with our dog, the hotel did not put out any dog bowls or dog snacks. This is not a major issue, but they offered to do this when we booked the reservation, so it was disappointing to see that this was not done.
I think the most egregious example of poor customer service occurred at check-out. Due to a family situation, we were forced to leave after the first day at the hotel. The hotel informed us that they would still have to charge us for the second night, which was understandable and we agreed. What was unreasonable is what happened next. After lunch at a nearby restaurant, we received a visit to our room from the manager, Julie. She told us that since we will be leaving a day early, they wanted us to leave before housekeeping left for the day so they could clean the room and try to resell it. These were the words that were used. I protested saying that we are already paying for the second night and it seems unreasonable for them to ask us to leave by a certain time. Julie insisted that they had an opportunity to sell the room again and needed us to leave before housekeeping left at 3:30pm. Not only was the delivery unapologetic, it was simply rude. Shortly thereafter we checked out.
The interaction with Julie during the check out process was disappointing to say the least. I hope the hotel can learn from this experience and improve their customer service.

We appreciate the guest’s feedback and understand the spirit in which they were intended. We indeed do learn from guest’s comments about their experiences at the hotel. In this case, there was clearly a miscommunication. We are a small property (16 rooms) and our cancellation policy is important, which is why we note it specifically on our website when guests call us on the phone and in our confirmation letters. During the Covid pandemic, we have had as much flexibility as possible. This guest had originally booked a stay in August but had to cancel within the period that requires forfeiture of their deposit. Rather than forfeit the deposit, as our usual policy, since the guest was interested in rescheduling, we were glad to credit the deposit to the rescheduled stay. The rescheduled dates were on a holiday weekend with a three-night minimum stay; we waived that requirement for the guest’s preferred two-night stay. When a guest notifies us they must depart unexpectedly, as this guest did after their first night, we take care to prepare the room to be back in service as soon as possible. . We are frequently able to rent the room that day. When we do, we credit the original guest‘s account so it isn’t a loss to the guest. With the current restrictions around Covid, our minimal staff is operating to the best of their ability. In this case, as the guest informed us in the morning they were checking out early. We made the room available in our system and scheduled housekeeping, assuming they were leaving by the usual check-out time. Since they did not, as they stayed the day in Milford, we could not get the room prepared, even though we had made it available in our online inventory. Based on the guest’s comments, either it was not communicated to the guest, or the guest did not understand, that if we rented the room that night they would not be charged the second night. That should have been made clear to the guest, in which case they would probably have checked out on a timely basis or indicated they wanted to keep the room for the day anyway. Julie, our guest services manager, is a seasoned hospitality industry professional and her service is frequently cited favorably by our guests. There certainly was no intention to be rude. The situation was uncomfortable and it was an exceptionally hectic day with a full hotel. We are truly sorry the guest ended up disappointed. The guest’s dog should have received the proper welcome. That was clearly our fault. I suspect it the reservation notes from the initial canceled reservation may not have transferred fully to the rebooked reservation. We are a dog-friendly hotel and it is important to us that dogs are fully welcomed at the hotel. I hope the guest returns and allows us the opportunity to do something special to make up for their disappointing experience.

This place used to be something in the old days. We rented one of the most expensive rooms and the shower was spluttering water everywhere; we couldn't get water to run from the shower except the splutter. The room was very small and the rugs very dirty and old. The bedding was OK but the bed was small and wobbly. The hotel is very outdated with old withered rugs everywhere. The restaurant is closed most days and hours of the days and its hard to find service anywhere in town. The waiters at the Bar Louis and delmonico are spaced out and didnt even get our orders until we asked several times. The food seem microwaved and frozen/reheated. Also very noisy because the road is the main road through town and very rowdy motorcycles and converted cars pass by. Not a place to relax or have any kind of pampering experience, which we thought we were going to get. Will never stay there again.

We're sorry to hear this guest did not enjoy their stay with us, it sounds like everything went wrong. Sometimes when one thing isn’t right, it cascades and feels like nothing is right. We have the same size rooms, same size beds and in the same location as was the case on the guest’s previous visit. The rugs in the rooms were all replaced within the past two years; the oriental rugs in the public spaces of the hotel are antique and do indeed show some wear. None of the beds are wobbly. When there is a problem with a shower, it is fixed promptly. There is no microwave in our kitchen and we pride ourselves on serving fresh food from the many local growers, producers and foragers we support. Our F&B service hours (dinner Thurs-Sun, brunch on Sat/Sun, hotel guest breakfast daily) are less than they once were, because of pandemic cutbacks. The guest complains about service in one of our restaurants that was not even open during their visit, so not sure how we can even respond to that.

There are just too many things missing! No drawers! Really? I don't think it's too much to ask to be able to unpack and put your clothes and personal items into some drawers. On top of that, the closet in the room is tiny, so you're only fitting a small number of hangable items in there. No safe!! I was staying at the hotel while attending a black-tie wedding and had some very fine jewelry with me and absolutely nowhere to securely keep it. No clock!! When I awoke in the middle of the night, there was no clock or any way to tell what time it was other than to get out of bed and look at my phone. Speaking of which, there also aren't any special plugs for phone chargers or white wires. Breakfast is lovely as long as you're not really hungry. While the coffee & food are delicious, the portions that are comped being an overnight guest are minuscule. I have never been served a slice of quiche that small. The breakfast items you pay for, however, are of normal size.
All in all, I must say that we were quite disappointed with the facilities and lack of everyday amenities.

Because the hotel was restored according to US Interior Department standards for historic properties, there were limitations in what we could do with moving interior walls and reconfiguration of rooms and it is true that some of our less costly rooms are on the small side and have limited drawer and hanging space. We do provide layouts of each room on our website to provide as much information as possible. In terms of the deluxe continental breakfast provided with the room (fresh fruit, house-made granola and yogurt, quiche, pastries, coffee, juice, etc.), a guest may order as much as they wish without limitation. Our quiche servings to me seem to be of an average size, but perhaps that is a subjective judgement. I am sorry that the guest did not understand this; it was easy to provide more if the portion was not satisfactory. We do provide a safe, as well as power cords, at our front desk for our guests.

Disappointing. While the hotel is a beautiful and historic, it lacked the attention to detail that one would expect from $400 a night accommodations. While the room was clean and beautiful, and the breakfasts were mostly very good, there was a lack of attention to the hospitality station- cold coffee, warm lemon water and no tea bags.
We waited 30 minutes at our dinner table there before being asked for just our drink order, so realizing that they were overwhelmed, we left and ended up getting a much faster (and cheaper) meal at the bar 30 feet away in the alley. The next night we ate dinner at Dimmicks down the street and found their menu, food and wait time to be far better. While I understand that every place has staffing issues right now, Hotel Fauchere needs to hire additional staff or adjust their prices to reflect the accommodations they are currently offering.

Not sure how to leave zero (0) stars but if I could I would. I booked 2 rooms on April 16, 2021 for this weekend (6/26-6/28) and then increased the res to 3 rooms. The impetus for the trip was for friends and family to have some adult time (eat, drink, sightsee, raft, etc.) after dropping our kids off at camp, which was 15 minutes down the road. In order to cancel a res you needed to do it within 7 days and get charged a $50 administrative fee. After that, you lose your deposit ($542). My brother told me he couldn’t stay 2 nights because of a work obligation and I started emailing and calling the hotel 10 days out to see if we could reduce 1 of the 3 rooms to 1 night. I finally spoke to someone, who said she “would get back to me.” She didn’t. I spoke to someone on 6/19/21 (7 days out) and was told that if they could rent the room for the second night we would be off the hook. We decided to cancel the 1 room and was told that we were losing the $542.00 deposit. After some subtle pressure and a reminder that I had been calling for days she relented and said that we would only be charged the $50 admin fee, even though we were still renting 2 rooms. Whatever.
Today, 6/21, I got a call and was informed that there was a leak in the hotel and that they had to cancel my reservation, but they were willing to put me up at a 2 star hotel in Goshen, 45 minutes away, and in the middle of nowhere. I declined. When I inquired as to whether all of the rooms were effected, I was told that people who reserved ahead of me OR loyal (or repeat) customers who reserved AFTER me were given a preference. Needless to say I won’t be a loyal customer after being treated like this and neither should any of you.

Unfortunately, we did have a flood that put two rooms out of commission. We are working hard to get them back in operation as soon as possible, but our contractors can only work so fast. We regret the inconvenience to the guest, but we did offer to relocate them at our expense--no charge to the guest--at the best available nearby option. I can't speak to the conversations the guest references with members of our staff, but it seems clear to me that there is some miscommunication going on, between the cancellation(s), flood, etc.. If the guest would like to speak to me about this personally, please email me at sean.strub@hotelfauchere.com and I will reach out to you. It is an awful inconvenience, to be sure, but one that was beyond our control.

A lovingly restored historic inn. The early 19th C bones of the place have been well maintained, but the updates are beautiful. The whole place smells divine. The rooms are quite luxurious, with high end sheets and towels, and largely excellent art. The resultant choices in the building are great. If you need help with your bags that isn’t available, although they do have an elevator. The breakfast room is sunny and inviting, but the water for the tea and the coffee was tepid at best at 9:15 (breakfast runs 8-10) and the breakfast a fairly paltry buffet - although the eggs were creamy and the fruit delicious. I don’t know that they need to do breakfast until they can do it as well as everything else - there is a great place, Better World, just across the street. We did enjoy our stay very much and would love to come back in the summer.

Distinguished yet not ostentatious historical hotel.
Breakfast is delicious home made fluffy seasoned scrambled eggs, tasty home fries bacon cooked to perfection, (hard to come by). croissants and pastries, yogurt with granola, fresh juice, coffee and assorted teas in a beautiful setting with elegant music.
Dinner at Bar Louis (downstairs in hotel) was a lovely time for a nice date night.
Lovely staff polite, pleasant and sincere.
Room, whilst a period hotel was classic, casual and comfy beautiful window with an amazing sunrise view to wake up to.
Bathroom again period style, most amazing bath in my life, clawfoot tub . Shower takes getting used to but bath......( hand held shower perhaps would be a nice touch )
Feeling of a country retreat while still in an urban yet quaint walkable town.
Nice parking area, felt safe and secure.
Forewarn no microwave or fridge ( historical )
If anything, would recommend an ice machine.
Would all in all say, maybe my new favorite retreat , very happy to have had the experience.
Looking forward to many seasonal getaways st this lovey hotel.

Yes and I apologize for not responding earlier. Just confirm the pet when you make the reservation and they'll advise of the pet-frinedly rooms and policies, etc.
Thanks
The nearest ski mountains are Shawnee Mountain and Big Bear at Masthope Mountain. There is also cross country skiing at High Point State Park. December is also a great time to hike and there are many trails walkable from the hotel as well as in the nearby Delaware Water Gap Recreational Area. If you're interested in larger mountains, the New York State run mountain, Belleayre, is about 90 minutes away.
