If you are coming to Threadbo for hiking, skiing or mountain biking, the Threadbo Alpine Hotel is a good choice for staying a few nights. However if you are planning to spend a lot of time in the room, it is a bit plain and small.
The bed is quite comfortable allowing me to achieve a great sleep before and after a long hike.
Located in the heart of the village, everything is easily accessible from the Threadbo Alpine Hotel. There is a fridge in the room to bring in a few supplies as items are expensive in the village.

Staff are friendly and accommodating, room is warm & bed is comfortable, I could hear the next room guest snoring loudly but not enough to keep me from sleeping & probably snoring just as loud. The views are fantastic. My only gripe is due to COVID19 restrictions the breakfast selection was not as good as it normally would of been. Overall We loved it & will definitely stay again.

We have stayed in the loft with another family several times but it has deteriorated.
The oven was disgusting, the clothes dryer did not work, part of the washing machine lid was broken and the lint catcher disgusting.
The shower head broke but was repaired within a day and staff provided coins so we could use the dryer in the guest laundry.
House keeping came randomly and we had to take bags of trash to reception ourselves.
Staff are helpful when approached and I guess like everywhere, they seem to be short staffed following covid.
Breakfast was included in our stay and it was the same …. Standards dropped! We witnessed a waitress tip the pancakes using her hand without gloves. Coffee orders didn’t arrive and tables weren’t disinfected between customers.
We did not see anyone cleaning common areas around the hotel.
On a positive note this hotel is in an excellent location and it’s just a walk across the bridge to the gondola or chair lift.

Had read reviews before booking and thought the negative ones might be being picky! The negative reviews were correct as the menu choices were very limited, pricy and the food average to poor. The hotel was full with mountain bike riders and walkers so why not provide full service menus and make people happy who like us were on a driving holiday in our state as a Convid break. To late on our3rd and final night we noticed the stream of people returning across the courtyard with pizzas from somewhere else in the village. The rooms are not airconditioned (yes they had a little heater on the wall but the day we arrived it was 28 degrees Celsius and our room faced north west). In winter it must be freezing in the bathroom as there was no heating. The hotel is constructed on the side of a slope and there are steps up/down about every second room so you have to drag your luggage up the steps - note you get an entrée to steps with the 8 steps you have to go up out of Reception on the start of your trek to your room. For the price you expect better as the country town motels we has stayed in on this trip prior to Thredbo provided far better accommodation and amenity. No wonder people choose to go skiing overseas such as NZ and Japan.

Fourth time at Thredbo and first but last time in this hotel ! With paper thin walls, we could hear guests in rooms next door every evening for hours and we could only fall asleep when they decided to stop chatting, laughing. I hesitated to knock at their door, yet did not because I did not feel they were especially loud and exaggerating. I can't blame anyone but the hotel for paper thin walls. At $600 a night (2 adults and one kid sharing a 13m2 room), and with a bathroom that dates back to the 70s, it is such a ripoff ! The least you can expect from an hotel in this price range is to be able to sleep. Thankfully we had an excellent week on the ski slopes, so our holidays were not ruined for picking the wrong accomodation in Thredbo. The only positive things about this hotel are its location and carpark. The lounge is also beautiful, but this year due to Covid you can't access it if you are a skier as it is already full (restricted number of guests) when returning from the slopes.

This is a very comfortable lodge. The rooms are nice. We appreciated the ability to heat the room during colder summer nights. The location is superb, walking distance from the base of the mountain. The Cascades restaurant was nice for dinner, although breakfast was limited and lunch was unavailable. Unfortunately some of the lodge’s amenities seemed to be closed for summer, also applicable to the town in general. This was definitely a place we would return to.

Rydges Thredbo Alpine hotel is the choice of stay if you would like a convenience walk to chairlifts for skiing. The hotel also closed to restaurants and trails for bush-walking. There is a Food work, newsagent and restaurants in the village square. Most of the restaurants here only open for dinner from Thursday to Sunday. The Cascade restaurant buffet breakfast was average however the service was good. Cascade restaurant was closed for dinner during our stay in summer. We were a little dissappointed because the swimming pool was filled and replaced with a outdoor cafe. However, keen swimmners can utilise an indoor heated public pool nearby for a small fee. The hotel room is a little small and outdated. The furniture in the room were old and soundproofing in the room was not great. This could be a problem for lightsleeper. Car park is compliment for hotel guests.

Great location right next to the snow which is clearly what we paid for with the room rate. The resort is quite old, which in some ways adds to its charm but in other ways was a little disappointing. When you’re paying this kind of money for a room, you expect the heating to work, unfortunately ours wasn’t. We were given a small fan heater instead which we were grateful for as it did the job in heating up the room, but left us quite dehydrated each morning having it running all night. Apart from that the room was small but clean enough and had everything we needed. There are no lifts in the hotel which was a little inconvenient at times. Car parking is available but there aren’t a huge number of spaces. The surrounding village we found a bit disappointing with only a few eating options - for this reason I think we’d probably look at staying somewhere else next time, maybe off the mountain itself as I’m not convinced it’s worth the premium rate to stay here.

What an overpriced dump! Seriously the only show in town milks it for everything it can! Walls are paper thin. Expect no sleep if the person in the next room snores. Feel free to join their conversation any time as you are effectively a part of it anyway. The bed is comfy enough but the pillows are thin sheets of slate! They hurt your head, seriously. Really so easy to just get decent pillows guys. The bathrooms are clean and workable, but the decor and fittings are right out of the 70’s. In room amenities were also preserved from a similar decade! Got to love that Kenwood kettle! The room is small but that’s not an issue, it’s just that for $400 a night it’s little more than a hostel! Event Hospitality, who also operate QT Hotels and Ridges should be made to upgrade or reduce pricing. It’s price gouging nothing less!

During our stay at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel, our experience was nothing but good. The staff were outgoing and kind even when passing them through the corridor. Without any huff or puff they were willing to stop what they were doing in order to guide you in the right direction, answer any questions or help you carry luggage to your rooms. The walls are quite thin and the decor is quite dated but in every alpine place i’ve stayed- this is the way. I think people get let down as they walk into this hotel thinking high class alpine living but in reality it’s your everyday people just trying to have a little holiday.
Walk into the thredbo Alpine Hotel expecting kind service and a comfy bed to sleep in and you’ll have a great time.

Hi Brenda Y,
Thank you for your question. The Thredbo Alpine Hotel is perfectly located to use as a base to hike to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko!
You have two options to get to the start of the Kosciuszko summit walk from the Thredbo Alpine Hotel -
1. Take the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift - Walk for two minutes to the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift which is directly across from the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. Ride it up to the top and walk to the Kosciuszko summit along the well marked path (13 km return). Tickets can be purchased at Thredbo Guest Services at Valley Terminal (also directly across from the hotel) on your way to the chairlift for approximately $35 per adult. The chairlift is 1.8km long and rises 560 vertical meters with some great views.
2. Walk Merritts Nature Track - Walk to Valley Terminal (directly across from the hotel) and turn right along a paved path. Walk past the Bobsled and you will see a sign for the Merritts Nature Track on your left. The walk to the start of the Merritts Nature Track takes approximately 5 minutes from the hotel. Hike up Merritts Nature Track to the start of the Kosciuzko Summit walk which starts at the top of the chairlift and will be easy to see. The Merritts Nature Track walk is 4 km long and covers 560 vertical meters of rise so is classed as an advanced walk.
Thank you for your question and have a great trip!
Best regards,
TAH
