Great Lodge! With CV19 lockdown Angie helped me modify my booking to a smaller room as half or our party could no longer attend. Angie and the team were very friendly and super helpful. I had my room upgraded to provide a little more space for our stay and to my amazement had a tube of liquid nails available when I asked to help me do some desperate repairs on my snowboard boots (gluing soles back on). I thought I'd have to drive back to Jindabyne for sure to get some glue.
My Son and I had a wonderful stay.. Thank You!!

Exceptional service from staff, especially Jacob, Josh and Sharon.
Clean, tidy and cozy accommodation. Easy walk to Valley Terminal, although the shuttle is a short minutes walk away. Also easy to catch the shuttle to get to Friday Flat.
Lovely breakfast - thanks Chef!
No self service laundry however for $10 a bag staff take care of this and it comes back that afternoon.
Friendly feeling and would stay again.

A lovely warm welcome by friendly staff. Spent the opening weekend there , our room was comfortable with a fabulous outlook. Breakfast was superb and a great way to start the day. Loved that we could move around the lodge and meet up with friends in other living areas. Would definitely return .

Devastated. Really disappointed in Australian tourism and hospitality. Booked a two night get away with my son and two grand daughters- the youngest being autistic. I specifically booked and paid a month in advance, through Booking.com, a larger room with 4 beds and fold out sofa to give my son a break and all of us space to move. Following the booking I made it clear to Alpenhorn via email i was travelling with my son and 2 grand daughters. On arrival, Alpenhorn allocated us a miniscule room with double bed and 2 bunks and refused to accept I had booked and fully paid for a larger room. Flat out denied there was even an option on Booking.com to select room configuration. Their solution was to make up a fold out bed squashed in a corner of the room that essentially joined the bunks & double bed leaving approx half metre sq for the 4 of us to manage any activity out of bed. They suggested I basically suck it up and email management. I suspect they bumped my booking for a longer week booking.. Breakfast was ordinary. The rooms tiny - 2 star at best. Couldn't and definitely wouldnt recommend it. And definitely check Alpenhorn is actually allocating you the room you paid for.

We booked here for 2021 during the ski season for our family. Before booking we checked what would happen if Sydney locked down or Thredbo locked down. We were told in writing that we would be able to move our booking if Sydney locked down or would be refunded if Thredbo did. When in fact all these things happened we contacted the hotel to be told that we could only move our booking to November or December. Then we were told only if we paid the remainder of the full booking they would move us to the following year. We lost our substantial deposit and they broke the conditions that they gave us in writing.

We went for a ski holiday for 5 nights but left a day earlier as the room we booked was very small for 4 adults.
The mattresses were very hard. Installing a few speakers in the dining room instead of playing from a phone would be good.
I had to ask for toilet paper and new towels.
Had to pay $5800 for 5 days?
The staff were very friendly and breakfast was good!
However, I would not stay there again for that price.

Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience with the Alpenhorn Lodge in Thredbo.
The room was filthy through and through and really not suitable for anyone to stay in, the beds were smelly and dirty and the floor smelled of sick.
The food was inedible and the service terrible.
Then to top it all off, the owner actually yelled at my wife infront of our young children when we politely asked for a solution.
This place is definitely not family or child friendly as they proclaim to be.

I just returned from a trip to Thredbo with my two boys. Great lodge in the heart of Thredbo.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and very cozy. So nice to comeback to the warm lodge after a day on the mountain. Thank you for your hospitality.

With over 20 years experience skiing at Thredbo and staying in a wide range of accommodation types our stay at Alpenhorn was easily the worst. It is so far below anything we ever encountered at Thredbo or any ski resort in the world.

We had made a last minute decision to go skiing with genuine top to bottom snow. As it was school holidays the village was heavily booked. With limited choice we settled on Alpenhorn mainly due to location. The price of $460 a night was expensive but we realised that accommodation was tight and we were booking last minute. We settled for one night and arrived there at 5pm

The woman at the front desk clearly the manager was rude and surly and made it clear that we were getting the smallest possible room - as quote 'there were only two of us' there was a clearly a larger room available we actually saw her start to give us the key to the larger before changing her mind and settling on the smaller room . At 5pm with little chance of a larger party arriving and despite paying the highest possible rate this seemed unreasonable but we could not be bothered complaining . We asked a couple of friendly questions which were responded to by grunts and when we went to speak we were just cut off and talked over and made to feel that we were lucky to be allowed to stay there.

Once we had our key we headed up to the room as quickly as we could keen to get away from the extremely bad vibe and hoping at least we would have a basic but decent room We opened the door and and found a 'room' that was tiny, dingy, dirty and run down. It was so small it was hard to have two people in there at the same time. As soon as we could we got out of there and went out for the evening The next morning the breakfast buffet was awful complete with cold watery scrambled eggs. The other guests there looked miserable. In fairness and to try to give a balanced review the kitchen staff were friendly and the only bright spot in the place.

In short - Alpenhorn took advantage of peak demand to charge a rip off price for a tiny dingy room for two people that would have been considered small for one person. That in itself would have been possible to deal with but when added to that the rude unhelpful and just plain nasty attitude of the manager it was all too much and we have been forced to write this review.

Writing a review like this is not something we enjoy doing as professional travellers but this was so bad we want to try to save other people from this experience. No matter how tight accommodation is in Thredbo you need to find somewhere, anywhere but this place.

We do understand that last minute booking in a peak time is a risk and you have to be more accepting of higher prices and lower standards but this was unnacceptable,

The next day we rang Berntis and had a completely different experience. A warm and friendly welcome and a great price $240, room was ready straight away and we could put our luggage in the room and head out on the slopes. The holiday was saved by Berntis, All it takes is a friendly attitude and fair pricing and you will build a loyal following. I doubt Alpenhorn could care less if they have regular customers they are just out to get what they can. AWFUL
